Hi Alex, great video. Have you ever tried the Giardini edging system? You but down a layer of base coat and buff that usually only once and then add a layer of coloured top coat. The finish is the best I’ve ever achieved.
Yes I have already tried it, it works well but I do not like to have thick layer of finishing on my edges, I prefer to fill asperities of the leather and buff, dye and buff until the I get the result I like. It is more time consuming but I prefer the more traditional look of the finish it does. The other system looks too industrial for me :(
I bevel, then use gum tragacanth and slick to get the general shape and then apply Giardini base coat. Once it’s dry I sand using 400 grit then 1000 grit then 3000 grit to get a really smooth finish and then float the top coat on. This. Gives me a very smooth finish that looks less industrial and more high class. For natural edges I just use gum trag and hard work.
This is why I love leatherwork. There are a hundred ways to do something and none of them are wrong just different.
Keep up the excellent work
