- Last year was tough, but this has been an amazing beekeeping year so far! Watch this short video of the bees at Aplin Farms. I am honestly amazed at what they have done!

Congratulations! 👍
Thanks Bob!
Bee yards are special to see. Very fun. Thanks.
Yes. And this one has been a joy to develop over the years true past year! Thanks for checking in!
Fabulous site and very strong colony's well done Bruce 💪👌🐝🐝🍯🍯🍯
Privet is big this season for sure. I’ve seen it one other season where is bloomed very big and it really led to a great tallow. What I always see when we have a few deep freezes in the winter is a huge spring reset…..with everything, not just flows. Grass, insects, trees, everything seems to burst out so much better, including the bees.
I agree. Seems like that is true.
Nice Bruce!!!! How rewarding
Looking great Bruce, I hope you have an awesome season, it looks like you are.
Best wishes to you as well my friend!
Looking good Bruce! I had to top feed all my colonies 2 weeks ago. I lost one to starvation. This past week they're bringing in nectar. It's been a Rollercoaster spring so far here in NJ. Good luck with all that honey.
Rollercoaster no doubt haha. That pretty much describes beekeeping in general. Hope you have a great year once everything settles down weather wise.
The Pee Dee area of South Carolina is having one of the best honeyflows that I've seen in years. If we get past a cold snap tonight, it's definitely on!
Glad you're having a good spring honeyflow too.
Uncle Jim's Southern Honey
I am hearing that from a lot of people. Good times…
Our privet bloom has been great this year I've seen more flowers on the privet this year than I ever have.
Yes it’s been really good so far!
Looks great Bruce! Starting the first spring flow in Michigan , splitting hives like crazy, hope you make TONS of honey !
You too. Hope you have a great year!
I would say you are rolling this season, Bruce. My 6 hives in South Carolina are filling supers quicker in April than I've seen in my 7 years of beekeeping, after a horrible crop last year, I welcome it, Roll Bees 🐝
Where are you located honeyandthecoop803? I’m in Winnsboro and have a couple supers on some of my strongest hives
@@kennethdarden1384 I'm over in Newberry, one county away
@@kennethdarden1384I am in Camden and some of mine have four supers. My area is always plentiful but this year seems stronger. Running about 83 hives at the moment and run out of supers!
Hey thanks for checking in you guys. It’s looking good so far for sure!
Blackberries, clover, and tulip poplar here, trying to keep up,running outa foundation,n boxes, but im still smiling
Yep. Ready or not!!!
Great looking start
It’s been fun so far!
First! Hey Bruce. Checked my super I have on my hive and is full with nectar and some capped honey! Season is going really well so far. Hope you have a good season!
Yeah it’s fun so far. Hope things keep on going well!
I told you you were going to have an awesome year! !it just felt different from the start.. still have to make it down there to give you a hand.
If serious about that you can reach out to me. We are going ro be working hard pulling honey here very soon!
The strawberries were extra good this year because of those bees, I’m sure!!
Ha! Maybe so!😎
Looks good mate
This flow must be everywhere because so far I think I am having the largest spring flow I have ever had. BUT last night we were down in the lower 40’s an tonight we are going to get down in the mid to upper 30’s . Sure hope that doesn’t screw up things . Our Holly an blackberry is right on the edge . What great looking colonies Bruce . Thanks
Yeah it has been an amazing spring so far. Maybe the best I have seen. Hopefully things will continue to work out well.
Hey Bruce. Great video. I always look forward to your videos. Thanks for your hard work.
Thanks for the support!
Wow 😮 I've realized I should be more aggressive adding boxes. Last year I only put one on at a time whenever they filled up but I see lots of guys throwing on 2 or 3 at a time.
It works out good if you can watch them close. But if there might be some time between visits it never hurts to add an extra box. You can always take it off or move it to another colony if needed.
Dream Big brother 🙏

The privit and honeysuckle in Brewton Al is crazy.
Ok. I have a question: do you see bees on honeysuckle? I have tons of them here in DFW Texas but I don’t see any bees pollinating them. Please let me know if you see bees on in your area.
Yes the flow has been crazy so far. I don’t know that I have ever seen bees on Honeysuckle but have never paid that much attention to
Great flow... mine started today raining dandelion nectar big time
There ya go! Hopefully you will have a prosperous year!
@@brucesbees I hope so going after honey this season
South Eastern Ohio, bees are getting heavy fast, this cold snap is not good just hope it don't mess things up. So far it's looking to be a good harvest.
Yeah k hope it doesn’t mess you up. I imagine if it’s a short cold snap things will be ok. I certainly hope so!
Bruce, that is a beautiful bee yard!
Yes! I have two new locations that were started last year and they are quickly becoming my favorites. This Aplin location and the new spot in Midland City. Very excited about both.
Nothing fancy needed, the bees are looking good!
Absolutely. The bees don’t care….
Thank you Bruce did you have a Queen left over ?
We had a good take on queens getting mated. I done have any extras.
Glad you are off to a good start!
Yes it’s exciting. Hopefully things will continue to go well!
Congrats!
Thanks!
Nice looking yard, Bruce!
Thanks for checking in!
Looking god
Thanks!
I'm curious about temperature comparisons on the apimaye compared to normal woodware colony hives? How much difference is there?
I don’t know exactly but I do know the Apimaye Hives have a much higher R value than standard wood boxes so it makes the hives easier to regulate for the bees. Probably doesn’t make much of a difference when the temperatures are moderate but I believe it helps a lot when the temps are extreme either hot or cold.
It seems like I'm adding boxes every week the bees are just busting loose.
Me too. I have completely emptied the barn of comb.
I still wont be grafting queens for another 2 weeks or so. It is driving me nuts! If that apimay hive fills all of those supers it would be crazy
It will be here soon. Living up north has to be tough sometimes.
Congrats! What are they on?
Currently privet is in bloom. As well as some other wild flowers. Etc.
Awesome! Question Bruce, I'm in taft,tn, blackberry, tulip poplar and others are taking off, I'm out of comb, those three apimaye you stacked on one hive, was that comb or foundation and comb? Do you recommend undersupering foundation with maybe 1 comb inserted, or set on top ? Ive always struggled best way to build comb. I don't wanna miss nectar flow so want to do best method preferred to get them building. Appreciate your opinion, thanks, Scott
Hey. I'm in Giles County. If you need help let me know. I am a fairly large size sideliner.
I have done it different ways. The most common way I do it is under super foundation under drawn comb. But I also like the idea of putting a frame of comb in the middle of the foundation. Definitely many easy to do it. Kamon Reynolds just uploaded a good video on building comb. You should check it out! As far as the 3 supers on the Apimaye they were drawn comb if I remember right.
10/4 , thanks, just watched Kaymons, and since I live with my bees and am here everyday I'll do the undersupering until comb building season over. Thanks
How many lbs did you get last year? I’d like to see the difference in how much
Somewhere 3000+ pounds or so. The previous year was around 7200 pounds. Last year was not good. I think we will have a really good year this year. But time will tell.
That is a great video. But I have a question, I have 4 production hives, all double deeps. I have already put two supers on two, but the other two are filling the top deep and not moving honey into the super above it. Any suggestions as to what to do. I will bi 73 in June and a honey bound deep turns my face crimson red when trying to move it. Thanks, Mike
Would it be possible to harvest a few deep frames?
@@brucesbees in
Yes. Several will be capped in just a few days
I would just try to pull a few frames out and harvest them if you can and are worried about them becoming honeybound.
Hey Bruce how are you liking them Hawaiian Queens are they the Kona ones?
I have really been impressed with them. Yes they are Kona queens I believe from Heintzelman Apiaries in Hawaii.
@@brucesbees which Queens have impressed you so far the most thanks
This year my bees are doing well across the board. I really like the Hawaiian queens though because they built up fast and are gentle.
@@brucesbees awesome thank you
second!!!!
Thanks for watching Stan. This is a short one for ya!😉😎
