If you fight him head on, he's the strongest boss in the game. To lower the difficulty, the Fan you get from chapter five and reduce his block stance very quickly and once he's opened, it's easy to take down his health bar. But his moves are powerful and hard to remember and dodge still
The fan not only eliminates his stance, it stun-locks him. Giving you a pretty huge window to attack his health bar. If left alone once his stance bar is depleted, he will quickly restore it.

this was one of my favorite boss fights in the game, just so cool. you need extreme level of patience to beat erlang, you walk beside him, hit, retreat, take a break , listen to him talk shit to you lmao, and go at it again,i defeated him by solely relying on rock solid, dodge mechanics. and the joy and sense of accomplishment you get from soundly defeating him is just something else. and the follow up fight with 4 heavenly kings was just as amazing, the game devs wanted you to feel strong after defeating erlang so you just run through the heavenly kings and cursh them,
@@Zedct5 Erlang just felt easier for me to dodge. Also Erlang doesn’t immobilize you and then drink from your gourd to remove a bunch of your heals or have a rock solid instant parry that grabs you like the final boss does.
I really fucking hate that games with bosses don't ever get boss replay modes. It's so stupid. You'd think ER would at least get one given that they gave Sekiro one.

In Sichuan, you can actually find Guan Kou Erlang Sheng, Li's Erlang Shen, and Song dynasty's Erlang in one temple. The order of version of Erlang Shen is - Guan Kou Erlang Shen, Tang's dynasty Li's Erlang Shen, Zhao's Erlang Shen, Song dynasty's Erlang Shen, folklore Yang Jian Erlang Shen and finally Qing's Erlang Shen who has three eyes. Erlang Shen influence has some Zoroastrianism roots and passed into China via the Di people who were at the border of Sichuan. The Di people also have a folk hero who turned into a God. unsurprising, this Di folklore hero god has a hound and a three eye painted between his eyes. This later influence the birth of Erlang Shen who became a spirit protector of the water in Ba Shu. This god owns a hound, does not have three eyes, and is not the son of Li Bing. If it makes you feel better : he probably didn't "breeze" through for no-dmg. Probably a fair number of tries to make it look good, learning all the moves and building up that muscle memory ;)
This makes me want a souls-like game for every mythology now. Greek, Norse, Egyptian, Japanese etc. I know God of War kinda has Greek/Norse but those games don't really compare to souls-like games.

@@anthonyortiz350 In Sekiro when you deflect, you have a powerful metallic CLANG as the impact of your blade fends off the attack. It makes the combat extremely satisfying when you're able to deflect every blow the opponent sends your way. Here, since there's (almost) no type of block or parry, and said attacks don't have the same impact that Sekiro has, it doesn't feel good. It FITS Wukong to not have parries, instead relying on dodges and special counters, but it would have been nice to have.
I mean obviously.. It's a dodge not a parry, why would it feel weighty or metallic? A perfect dodge should be smooth and swift, which is perfectly well done here as far as I'm concerned

At the end of JTTW, they all gain Buddhahood and that's it. The game is basically a fan fiction sequel to JTTW. "What if" this happened. Also, using your example, it's not about maintaining reputation. It's that the gang boss resigned or AWOL-ed from his government position, and just went home. The government gets suspicious/nervous about this super powerful dude just going off and doing whatever, so they try to take him down. The other "gang members" aren't eliminated either. It's targeted at SWK. No one cares about Zhu Bajie, Sha Wujing, the horse dude, and as far as we know, the Tang monk simply went back to normal life in the Tang court.
Really cool, difficult fight with awesome visuals and interesting story. Exactly the kind of thing I want in these types of games. Something to make the combat shine. Honestly was feeling the lack of standout bosses until I saw this guy. He's got that character that I didnt see in most other fights. Would be upset if this game didn't have a boss on this level. Feels necessary to me.

It's called seeing through the enemies attack. It's apart of the skill tree on your first stance. You press triangle as the enemy attack and you'll parry and do more damage

It FITS Wukong to not have parries, instead relying on dodges and special counters, but it would have been nice to have.
I mean obviously.. It's a dodge not a parry, why would it feel weighty or metallic? A perfect dodge should be smooth and swift, which is perfectly well done here as far as I'm concerned

@@ES21007Rock Solid is a parry and it does give a satisfying CLANG when you do a perfect one, but it requires you to take off cloudstep which sucks.

- This part is from the game, not in Journey to the West. At the end of JTTW, they all gain Buddhahood and that's it.
The game is basically a fan fiction sequel to JTTW. "What if" this happened.
Also, using your example, it's not about maintaining reputation. It's that the gang boss resigned or AWOL-ed from his government position, and just went home. The government gets suspicious/nervous about this super powerful dude just going off and doing whatever, so they try to take him down.
The other "gang members" aren't eliminated either. It's targeted at SWK. No one cares about Zhu Bajie, Sha Wujing, the horse dude, and as far as we know, the Tang monk simply went back to normal life in the Tang court.
Really cool, difficult fight with awesome visuals and interesting story. Exactly the kind of thing I want in these types of games. Something to make the combat shine. Honestly was feeling the lack of standout bosses until I saw this guy. He's got that character that I didnt see in most other fights. Would be upset if this game didn't have a boss on this level. Feels necessary to me.

It's called seeing through the enemies attack. It's apart of the skill tree on your first stance. You press triangle as the enemy attack and you'll parry and do more damage

@tubeo94 Smash is a good All-Rounder Stance; Pillar is best for avoiding AOE attacks and crowd control, and Thrust is best with Counters.
