The fifth and final single from the band’s number 1 ‘Free All Angels’, ‘There’s a Star’ was released by Ash in December 2001 and charted at number 13.
Directed by Jeff Thomas (‘Burn Baby Burn’, ‘Sometimes’ and ‘Candy’) and shot in Iceland the ‘There’s A Star’ video was meant to be inspired by the Hoth planet from Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back. Described by bassist Mark Hamilton before shooting: “We're off to Iceland to shoot it up in the mountains, imagine vast area covered in snow, think Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back, we're all dressed Han Solo style with Rebel Alliance logos with rescue flares going up in the night and we're gonna comes across 'Snow Jawas'. Whilst Tim makes a quest across the snow scape searching for his "Flying V" just in time for the solo. How epic”

@markitox91 Hey There! I actually made this video all the way back in 2001 and the Empire Strikes Back was one of our references! This was an amazing location to shoot this video, but it was originally supposed to be full of snow and they were wearing black parkas, but there was a freak weather front and all the snow in Iceland melted...no joke! We had to quickly revise the whole video in one day!

most proberly one of the most underated bands ever,people forget how young they were when they started off.they were 10 to 15 years ahead of there time and put kings of leon,blur,the killers and many others to shame.
Ash were so underrated post-punk greats in the 1990s. Always like their music! One of the best 90s bands there was imo.
Yet 2 of their best albums were in 2001 and 2004.
Ash are like a hidden gem that makes me feel all happy and floaty and like I want to get married on a hill top.
I get that floaty feeling too. Their music sounds like magic.

Saw Ash live several times. One of the best live acts of the time. Brixton Academy Dec 2001 is still to this day one of my favorite ever gigs. There was something magic in the air that night, the band were riding the crest of a wave and had just released this song. I was down the front. I love Ash's punk ethic but mixed with these delightful soft centred melodies. Poptastic genius. So underrated now.
It doesn't matter if you like this song or not, there's something hypnotic about it that stops you from changing the song.

this video was shot in iceland (i am from iceland) in 2003. it was few months after they played with coldplay here. that was awesome! ash is my favorite band.

I walked past the outskirts of an early T in the park concert years ago,and heard them play,and i carried on my way as if they were not important.Years later i heard this song out of the blue,and wondered who it was.Now i'm hooked on them.What a good band they are!.

now, concerning the video, I can't help to watch it again but with a whole different perspective. I believe it was good that the snow melt, because the video looks like it's inspired on Empire Strikes Back, but it still looks like an original piece
I like both bands but ash isn't as egotistical as the gallagher brothers and they are more diverse than oasis..

heard this song on the soundtrack to an ireland world cup video in 2002...it stayed with me ever since. I only recently thought of looking it up on youtube and im thrilled iv found it! i must admit it's the 1st iv heard of ash but if all their songs are like this then they must be really really really good!!
