- Whether you were looking for better fuel economy, a roomier / more luxurious interior, some EV range, or better driving dynamics, the Lincoln Aviator bests the best seller in this segment: the Acura MDX, yet oddly few shoppers are seem to be interested. In this video will take a deep dive into the plug-in hybrid 3-row Lincoln that absolutely should be on your shopping list.

I think the problem is threefold: inventory has been terrible, Lincoln dealers aren't shy about markups, and Lincolns lease really poorly. They're really nice but not worth the hassle.
I'd add another one; the launch was overrun with quality issues. There are a lot of lemons on the used market
@@future62 they still have issues even after launch. When you go in a Lincoln service shop it’s filled with aviators
@@spacefras Yes, just as Ford is still full of Explorers.
That and their just aren't that many Lincoln dealers, the brand has been in decline since they didn't do a revamp the way Cadillac has with it's V branding.
Very poor quality as my local lincoln service tech says stay away from this vehicle...
The Aviator is an absolutely stunning vehicle. Not a lot of people can afford a $80k -$90k vehicle.
You mesn 108 is what i pd for my 23 2 mos. Ago. Love it though.
I purchased 2022 Aviator Black Label Grand Touring. Love it and those 494 horses definitely make it feel like a sports car. The interior luxury sets it apart. Had a friend who just purchased a 2023 GLE AMG and couldn't stop talking about the high level of luxury. My work commute is very far and I have visited the gas station once in three months.
Can you please define very far in miles? How is car holding up?
Unless you say how far is your drive your comment isnt legit
Really like our Aviator! Had the RX, X5 and MDX prior
the size alone of this thing would be a hard no for me, before looking at the sticker... but i gotta admire that it takes regular gas and has a spare tire. [for ppl who actually adventure in their cars] no need to worry about [sketchy premium gas at some middle-of-nowhere gas station], and no need to worry about getting a flat.
The spare tire is a huge plus as is paying $0.60 per gallon or more less for fuel.
If I were in the market this would be on my short list along with the genesis.
That may be part of the issue as well, I really liked the GV80 at NYAutoShow
Genesis is even more of a lemon
While the Genesis is lush and comfortable, many Hyundai dealers will not service a Genesis. Fine in larger cities where there is likely to be a Genesis dealership but a definite draw-back if you don't have a Genesis dealership nearby.
@@justforfun321 That, along with the fact that they're crap cars.
Take all the vehicles you have mentioned and drive over a set of railway tracks at 20mph. We did. While not perfect in all departments, we found the seats and drive comfort of the Aviator second to none. Only the Escalade and Navigator were comparable. Why on earth would you spend so much $ on a vehicle if you prefer to "feel the road"? It is definitely more comfortable than the $130K Mercedes GLS with it's strange (personal preference) hand grip center console design, in which you can feel every pebble on the highway, never mind a gravel road. The Volvo was worse. Driving to work, shopping, etc is well within the 21 mile EV-only range (for us in particular) so we hope to drive emission free for 60% of our driving which in our opinion is why some are willing to spend extra for a PHEV, not the fuel economy. Just my opinion but this seems like a comfortable and luxurious transitional vehicle for those of us who want to do what we can to preserve the air our grandchildren breath, but are not yet willing to give up the comforts and convenience of an ICE for long distance driving. I'm not sure if this one will last 13 years like my Navigator did but I sure hope so. If I'm still around, next vehicle may be a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle if we ever get the infrastructure built. Thank you very much for your updated review of the 2023 PHEV Aviator. Ours is built and should arrive at the dealer within the next few weeks.
Excellent response! You and I am in the same age bracket, and we think alike. Good luck with your new ride. (For comparison, in my PHEV, first year managed 49% EV only, so it is possible. MKZ)
@@Qrail Thanks for that. Good to know it's doable. Trying to decide whether to buy outright or lease. Have read a few articles recommending leasing primarily due to questionable reliability but I don't really understand how that would benefit me since I'm obligated to maintain the vehicle whether or not I own it or lease it and I'm locked into the term of the lease regardless. Leasing costs more overall so there is no advantage from that perspective or am I missing something. Always thought leases were for customers not able to purchase outright ... or have a business expense option for the payments.? Any thoughts?
@@justforfun321 you might be able to get certain tax benefits (PHEV “rebate” which I think is a tax credit). I don’t know in what state you live. Check with your CPA. IRS form 8936 and rule 25. Don’t quote me on this. On the reliability, you will have a factory warranty, and if you maintain the car, you should be fine. I take mine to the dealer annually, so they can catch anything I missed or am unaware of.
@@Qrail O.K. Thanks very much for the reply. So no specific advantage to leasing over owning then? Yes, we take it to our dealer for regular scheduled maintenance, etc. as well. The comments I had read implied that you would be better off having a lease if you end up with a lemon. I just don't see it since you have a warrantee either way.
Unfortunately we no-longer get a PHEV rebate for luxury vehicles here in Ontario ... in fact we have the honor of paying a 20% tax on any amount above 100K . Sadly, Navigators may suffer north of the 49th Parallel. Thank you again for the reply.
I’ve got a 2019 and one of the first off the line. I waited 6 months for my black label hybrid. I think there are only two in all of Ohio. We are retired and use it to go everywhere and feel very safe in any weather. My wife has a black belt in shopping so it fits anything she wants in the back. I like it for the HP and torque getting on the highway. The heads up display is fantastic. The car can hold everything we need for a long trip including our travel Kerurig. The sound system is better then any car we previously owned.
Current mileage?

Similar to Buick I just don't associate Lincoln with anything good. Maybe they have to step up their marketing but I forget they even exist.
Buick? Do they still make cars? 😂
Best blogger about the finance! Love to watch your videos about binary options
I just purchased a reserve 1 with the jet appearance package and I love it!
Really love how the Aviator looks. It's perhaps the most handsome three-row midsize luxury crossover. The interior is a homerun too. Just sad that Lincoln is veering from that traditionally luxurious design to the flashy all-screen look that won't age well interior as seen in the new Nautilus.
I’m a Lincoln owner. I assume the design in the new Nautilus will mature with each new model. But compared to the new RX, both the current Nautilus and the next gen one are better designs
The Nautilus really isn’t that flashy. It’s more wood and leather than chrome and lights. It still has that nice Rolls Royce/Range Rover horizontal dash design and the screen is much more cleanly integrated than any of the competitors. The seating and door design is entirely traditional luxury, albeit with those illuminated black plates on the top-front side of the front doors. Still true to form.
Buying the gas version soon. Rented it for a week and fell in love
Ford / Lincoln dealerships make the purchase process a nightmare. They extremely undervalue your trade-in by $3000 to $5000. The vehicles are great but how you have to buy them is why a lot of people no longer purchase Lincolns and fords. We purchased our BMW in roughly 45 minutes. At the Lincoln dealership we didn't even get seen for over an hour and a half just for them to tell us that we have to put down another $5000 if you want our payment to be the same as our trade-in. Our BMW payment is lower than our trade-in and the sticker was higher than the Corsair.
Im saving for my next vehicle to be the 2024 or 2025 black label aviator grand touring. Just hoping Lincoln comes out with an off road package with better tires and a slight increase to the ride height. Aside from that being NBA height, I’m looking forward to cross country drives in that super comfortable seat
Alex, Despite your bold declaration, Aviator sales did not soar. That should keep you grounded. 😁
The aviator is underrated. Vehicles like the x5 GLE gv80 are rightly rated because they do excel. Some vehicles like the Lexus RX and qx60 and xt6 are far too overrated because they’re truly mediocre in comparison
Great review thank you
I cross shopped this when I bought a Genesis GV80 in October. Given the higher price, reputation for reliability and repairs, warranty and overall quality and driving experience, I could not justify buying the Lincoln.
Lincoln is more reliable than genesis
@@Reu_ag
Absolutely not. Lincoln is currently at the bottom of car reliability rankings (consumer reports), while Genesis is about mid-pack (after spending years in the top-5).
You made the right choice with the GV80
Thigh adjustments are best enjoyed on long drives... makes more of a recliner feel for comfort.
This will be a really great vehicle of value when it will hit the used market two years from now. Say, at 40 ish?
Can you get Blue Cruise or Active Glide on this?
This vehicle has been called out a lot for it's build quality and reliability. If you want a product in the auto sphere to be accepted nowadays, you need to perform. Reliability has to be better. Simple as that. Especially at a premium pricepoint like the Aviator.
The split thigh supports are a great idea because how often are the drivers legs in the same position...? This will permit you to have support on your right leg and stretch your left leg out.
I agree.
I really like the look of the Aviator.
Love it! Wish I could afford it.
The 24 Is Ravishing, Especially Inside Absolute Luxury.💛
I just love looking at my aviator as much as i do driving it
I went with the jeep grand Cherokee 4xe since it had a much better lease price. They wanted almost 400 more a month for the Lincoln.
Does that mean the Lincoln will hold it's value better than the 4Xe
@@ShonTolliverMusic since a lease is essentially paying for depression I would so not. But I don't expect either would be worth much at the end of a lease.
Man that interior is gorgeous
Yes it is!
I would prefer the Mazda CX90 PHEV. Great looks. Mazda drviing dynamics. Japan built. Reliable.
If you were an actual Pilot, you absolutely know why those seats are individually forward and rear leg extensions are so important. On long legs or segments in flying, they truly are useful. Not considered a luxury in planes, they are a standard feature, all Pilots appreciate.
how so??
Reliability concerns, dealership experience, brand image could be reasons why this doesn’t sell as well as it should
true besides not all of us dont need want or will ever use the 3rd row / for 2 of us and 2 dogs
If you have a black label, the dealership experience is a huge plus.
I think the Aviator's main market problem is the donor platform, the Ford Explorer, can be had for less with pretty much all of the same preferred options.
Regarding the split thigh support. Think of the benefit for long drives. Driving East cross-country on I-80 that split would be a blessing. Lift the right-side up high and you help avoid leg cramps.
Well the Explorer is RWD to begin with
Besides it’s not different than say an Infiniti qx60 which is just a fancy pathfinder. Or a Lexus RX which is just a fancy rav4. Your argument can also be said for these vehicles
I think Ford really cheaped out on the interior of the Explorer and even if it was equipped with similar options as the Lincoln, it would still appear as a significantly downmarket vehicle. The main problem of the Aviator imo is the variety of competitors and perhaps, luxury car buyers don't think Lincoln has the cachet to ask for those prices.
@@mark_u that I agree. I’m not very happy with the interior either.
Not comparable
@@naveenthemachine The Lexus NX is a Rav4. The RX is a Highlander.
The vast majority of car shoppers can't or won't decipher an interior like an auto journalist does, hence why the XT6 sells better than the Aviator. They'll complain about stuff, but at the end of the day, cost is what matters, and I'm sure XT6 has better leases.
My wife and I bought one in July and by December Lincoln had to buy it back. Lincolns service department had the car more then we did. And it’s a shame because we absolutely loved the look and interior but the reliability was horrible the check engine light came on at least once a week and finally in late November the high voltage battery shorted out on it and they said it would cost too much to replace it so they did a Force buy back
Sounds like a lemon...and now what did the two of you decide? Lexus?

@@scottmason2094 Wow...big car!!!
Not sure if this has anything to do with their sales, but I’ve found that many more people who aren’t in to cars know that Lincoln and Cadillac are premium brands of Ford and GM respectively than those who know that Acura, Lexus and Infiniti are premium brands of Honda, Toyota and Nissan. Many “non-car folks” I’ve spoken to think that the Japanese premium brands are their own separate brands and not associated with a “cheap” brand. Many, many people who are buying from a premium brand do so largely for brand snobbery, so maybe that matters to them. People do irrational things.
Lincoln is also associated with old people or “old money”, maybe even more than Cadillac.
There is also the perception of increased quality in German cars (although I’d challenge that perception), and increased reliability in Japanese vehicles (which is probably true, but not as true as it used to be).
Yet those Japanese premium brands share everything with their cheaper counterparts 😂
Well maybe except Acura / honda
@@naveenthemachineno they share engines and other components. I can find the same Toyota parts in a Lexus and VW parts in a Audi. Sometimes all you get is a slightly better interior and a different badge all for 25k extra.
@@appleiphone69 not entirely on VW vs Audi. On their inexpensive cars like the golf TT a3 q3 sure they share a lot but that’s fine since they’re inexpensive
But if you look at more expensive VWs and Audis none of them share anything from one another. For example the VW atlas doesn’t share a single thing with the Audi q7 and vice versa. The atlas uses a Toyota 8 speed and a turbo 4. The q7 uses a more powerful turbo 4 oriented longitudinally along with the zf 8 speed transmission. Plus the AWD systems aren’t the same VW vs Audi. Audi uses Quattro while VW uses 4Motion. They aren’t the same and the 4Motion doesn’t have a rear power bias
The cross sport doesn’t share anything with a q8 or Porsche cayenne in platforms engine’s transmissions or suspension systems
But Toyota vs Lexus however that’s a different story. Just about every engine or transmission the RX has you’ll also find in lesser Toyotas. The turbo 4 is used in a base $35K highlander. The hybrid comes right from the Camry and rav4. The PHEV comes from the rav4. The turbo hybrid is also used in the crown and grand highlander hybrid max. So none of the powertrains here offer any exclusivity.
@@naveenthemachine take a look at the VW ID4 and the Audi Q4 e-tron. Same performance, same range. $58k is not chump change.
German cars are more reliable than Japanese everywhere else outside of the US somehow
I want one of these
Reliability, or lack of, was the response I get whenever I ask about this. Lease rates are not great either, at least where I’m from.
I’m also surprised to hear that the XT6 sells better than this because I cannot remember ever seeing one on the road 🤷♂️
In southeast Michigan where I live, I definitely see more XT6s than Aviators.
@@elliottmanning4116 So after posting this, I went asking on local online car groups why, and I was told it’s because many Cadillac dealers closed in my area back when GM did the big purge. Those numbers were reduced even further when they announced Cadillac is to become an EV brand, when some of the remaining ones took the buyout option.
North Texas and I definitely see more XT6s.
I see absolutely none, 0, XT6's, but several Aviators here in Indianapolis. Interesting.
Lincoln needs to up the range on electric. The BMW X5 50e has a 50 mile range and prices in at $90k fully loaded. No third row in the BMW and less cargo space. If Lincoln ups the electric range and comes down in price it's a solid contender in my search. Right now no one can touch the X5 50e if you don't need the 3rd row.
immediate like as soon as the overlayed legroom & headroom number comparison appeared
I feel like this is a computer to GLS and X7 … hope the refresh gets it closer … because the price sure is there
So even when coughing up a lot more money for the black label trim, you still get a net of sub par materials like the piano black easy to scratch center console trim. And the section at the top of the door panels is also less than it should be. Infotainment screen could be bigger along with the back seat console screen. Perhaps Lincoln needs to add an Ultra Summit Super Duper Black Label Trim to address those issues.
Consumer Reports says the Aviator is the 7th least reliable vehicle sold in the USA. That is a problem.
CR seems to focus on cost on my most of the reviews. This one cost close to 90K and that’s why they gave it that review. My Girlfriend has had hers since 2020 and no problems at all. Just oil changes/ air filter and she has 78K miles on as of today
I am wondering why you did not list the Mazda CX90 PHEV as an alternative.
Although it lacks all of the bells and whistles in many respects the CX90 has a better interior (for example, no piano black) and it is still quite luxurious.
I considered and test drove the Aviator, however, the superior gas mileage, Mazda driving dynamics, still luxurious interior and Mazda’s reputation for exceptional reliability won me over.
Best review ever
What a luxury should be.
Sucks that Europe don't much of these big cars. We got explorer plugin but it has tiny range.
I wonder how they will restyle this truck they absolutely nailed it really the looks are perfect but obviously they have no choice but to tweak it for the refresh and they can’t make it look better so it’s just gonna be one of those classically styled trucks that couldn’t be made better in the refresh I’m sure the interior will be even nicer but exterior styling was perfect
No childseat friendly tilt? Why?
Agree 100% 20:42
This is by far my favorite SUV and I find it very sexy!
Pretty funny that a "midsize" SUV barely fits in a standard 20' garage with just enough to walk around it. Forget about opening the hatch unless you leave the garage door open as well.
Nice ford SUV l was Sad when Ford stopped making Taurus Sedan was a Mistake. I Miss the Continental Lincoln😢😢😢😢
Especially Grand Touring PHEV with double or more the efficiency ad the MDX today.
the MDX Type S absolutely destroys the Lincoln in the 1/4-mile.
@@TheBreakfastLover pffft! Car & Driver has the Aviator GT a half second faster to 60 mph and that continues through the 1/4 mile.
Try again...
Is 90k dude is just too much and I love these
Quality issues when it 1st came and lack of advertising they have a hybrid version of The aviator is the reason why it's not selling... Hell I forgot they had a hybrid version LOL😅
But with a poor 21 miles on pure electric, it doesn’t justify the extra $20k over the base model. The XC90 is now at 36 miles on pure electric.
And the X5 50e has roughly 50 miles on pure electric. Lincoln needs to catch up!
There has been a recall almost all year long. Aviators are just now becoming available for 2023
I wanted this car so bad. But so damn expensive.
But it’s so worth it
@@naveenthemachine I wanted it. For all the features it has. 3 rows plug-in the power and interior. Along with being able to tow. Cost was crazy high. But not more then the tesla Model X. I’m currently driving a Tesla model 3 I’m looking for 3 rows. Under $70,000
How 'bout a '2021 1 owner Black Label with only 12k miles? Burgandy Velvet with Chalet (white) interior. My lease is coming due and the wife wants to try a different car..
@@whatsupwithsteve is it the plug in hybrid?
@@Darclover82 No, I didn't want the expense of adding a power unit to my house. I'm resisting the EV push..:)

Could be. The Jeep Grand Cherokee L too :)
Does it require premium gas?
no. both the corsair and aviator PHEVs are regular gas... which, it's disappointing how uncommon that is among premium/luxury PHEVs...
If I had the money to afford a used or new Aviator, I would get one, but I don’t need this big of a midsize SUV. The Corsair or Nautilus are the perfect size for me
No PHEV on the Nautilus (yet).
Ford reliability AND dealer experience keep this vehicle on the dealer lot. For me personally I just think the more square boxy shape of the XT6 looks better. I do agree the Lincoln interior is more plush.
Yeah but xt6 is worse than the explorer on the inside and has less tech than a 90s Mercedes
I do work at a ford & Lincoln dealer outside the states, they sell "good" but almost all of them have transmissions Issues
the aviator has some beautiful interior color schemes, but this might be the worst one. Poor choice by whoever was in charge of the press car order.

"Easier to park than the navigator." 😂😂😂
Give me a black label xl navigator, and I'll show you how to park.💪
I looked at it as a replacement of my leased Ford Escape Hybrid, however I found out that the dealer was not approved by Lincoln because they did not have any employees that were certified for PHEV's. Add to that the price of $70K+ for so few miles electric miles. Just not ready for prime time.
In reality all jokes aside the Lincoln makes the Acura look like a Honda especially inside say what you will if you look and feel inside the Lincoln is got it the materials are nicer and the outside looks more mature
The Lincoln also makes the Cadillac look like a Chevy and the Lexus look like a cheap Toyota
My wife wants one. Value actually seems to be really good
I have a beautiful one for her right now..:) Our lease is coming due soon and we like trying different cars so we will be selling this '21 Burgandy Velvet Black Label with the Chalet (white) interior. Only 12k garaged miles on the car!

It hasn't set the sales charts because damn American brands charge for little feature they add while toyota and Honda companies give you some good stuff without selling your kitchen table
Owning one of these out of warranty would worry me.
I wish Lexus Rx and Infiniti QX 60 would have RWD bias setup.
If you want that it’s called the genesis gv80
No way better than an Acura MDX. This vehicle will probably break down within the first 2,000 miles
If I was rich, I would love this car
A turban is a headdress.
It comes with Ford quality. I would choose the Lexus for this reason.
The Lexus version is just a dressed up Toyota rav4 / Camry
The Lincoln is based off the explorer BUT it’s RWD based and it doesn’t use base engines
Older people's mostly by Lincoln back in the day
The water pump is situated "inside" the engine. Costs between $2,500-$4,500 to replace.
Woof. That's a terrible idea. Thanks for pointing this out. Makes a BMW seem smart in comparison (which is tough to do).
Yikes...good to know
Honestly i believe lincoln slowed its sales when they got away from what made them truly great which was a v8 motor when lincolns best feature is 30 way adjustable seats theres a bit of a problem as far as a performance electric version it makes no sense at all. Simply stupid 5:40
I stay away from Mercury and Lincoln. I had to junk my Mercury at only 160K. My current Toyota runs like new at 325K miles without expensive repairs and maintenance.
Priced so high just get navigator but why get that just get the Escalade
I would not purchase this based on reliability, quality and resale value. The Acura MDX outperforms the Lincoln in all these parameters.
But the Lincoln outperforms it in everything else like interior tech luxury performance handling comfort etc
Lose the oscillating steering wheel animation. It's really irritating.
I would lease the Aviator 3 years only; but, buy the Acura MDX and keep for +150,000 miles.
While it looks great, in typical Ford fashion the quality doesn’t go in. The transmission is abysmal. If you want to know why it fails check out Consumer Reports on the Ford Explorer/ Lincoln Aviator twin.
I can’t unsee the poor fit of the overhead sunglasses holder.
Я тут недавно играю, но уже понял, что сайт топовый!!! Главное играйте спокойно и не забывайте про тактики!
Only one Lincoln is acceptable to consumer reports: the Corsair.
Selling them at msrp at 3.9 apr doesn’t help.. they aren’t making it easy for us looking at the $7500 tax credit
probably doesn't sell well because it's IMPOSSIBLE to find any information on it. It's buried on their website.
wait....isn't Ford under a class action lawsuit over their 10 speed transmissions? Decent looking, but high cost equates to low value.
@King Tool....GM is under a class action for their 10 speed transmissions and for their variable displacement V8 engines
The problem is clear, lincoln is not known for reliability, quality or cars that keep their value. On top of that, Lincoln cannot compete with the Japanese SUV, since they have long term reliability and the cars hold long term value. Lincoln may not stay in business aa it’s dropping models out of inventory due to low sales. Honda, Lexus or Acura do not have those problems.
I own a MDX 2011 with SHAWD, with 108k milea and my car will still be good for another 5 years before i have to worry about serious engine or transmission problems.
Remove the Lincoln logo and $35000 ...it would sell like hotcakes! Im in the market..but that price in Canada is not worth it. Rear tail lights are boring.
display and infotainment lay out screams " i am old" it's nice car but old interior feeling kills sales
Best styling bar none. I don’t see any Ford Edge.
There’s a reason why it’s not selling. If you listen to the video more closely, you can hear the rattles when he’s on the ride quality part. At the end of the day it’s still a ford so expect rattles, recalls, and many more issues. The aviator reliability rating is very bad.
Even reliable cars will have rattles. I’ve driven vehicles like the nx and it had rattles on the road.
@@naveenthemachine that’s a horrible car to compare. The nx is not a true luxury car, it’s the poor man’s “luxury”. Ford has had quality control issues and they own Lincoln. The Lincoln aviator is the most worked on car in a Lincoln service center and also the least reliable.
@@spacefras the nx is a dressed up rav4.
I know some fords had issues with the Explorer and aviator but I would have expected them to already be ironed out
@@naveenthemachine unfortunately as the years have gone by they’ve gotten worse. More problems and more recalls. Ford is number one in recalls and warranty claims. Explorer and aviators are terrible right now.
Aviator is under a stop sale recall right now for the rear camera. Tried to test drive one and was told I couldn't because of the recall.
This would look so much better without the horrific grill.
