    Use 2soft or gac 900 when doing the netting so it doesn't come out super blotchy like that. More paint isn't always the answer. Great job on this resto though looks really good. What a difference.

    • @nickp3173
      @nickp3173 3 роки тому +3

      @@SneakerStation The thing about gac 900 / 2soft is that it thins the paint out almost like it's a dye and it reacts similarly as a dye. You don't need an air brush to use them. You can do it with a brush and it just absorbs into the material as opposed to just sitting on the top layer. Then when you heat it up to set it it absorbs even more. No paint blotches. I've done it many times. 1:1 ratio.

    • @tysonskedgwell7170
      @tysonskedgwell7170 2 роки тому +1

      Hey I’m currently looking into painting the netting on my 4s with just a regular paint brush what would your procedure be from start to finish if you don’t mind!

    • @nickp3173
      @nickp3173 2 роки тому +1

      @@tysonskedgwell7170 Use angelus flat white, angelus 2-soft or gac 900. It'll thin the paint to avoid it becoming blotchy or clumpy(to do the fabric under the plastic netting, don't worry about getting paint on the plastic though). Do multiple coats. Take your time to ensure full coverage and make sure you give it enough time to dry between coats. At the very end you can go in and hit the plastic netting alone very lightly with just the flat white (without the 2 soft) but use very little paint on the brush to avoid clumps. Make sure you put some kind of clear coat sealer on top when you're done to avoid paint chipping.

      Angelus flat white for the toe box. For the netting, angelus white along with a fabric medium like 2-soft. Ideally you should use an adhesion promoter, and finisher like krylon matte to make sure the paint doesn’t come off the rubber, but a finisher alone should be enough.

      Depends on how deep it is. You can either sand the area to smoothen it, or use leather filler. I’ve never used leather filler, but from what I’ve seen, it works pretty well.

    What would this restoration cost? Can the shoe survive the washing machine? Wouldn’t it destroy or structurally degrade all the glued components? I’d prefer buying a new pair. Less hassle and I don’t think I can handle the disappointment of restoring it only to have it fall apart because of the washing machine process.

    • @SneakerStation
      @SneakerStation  2 роки тому +2

      This might be a long answer. As always, you should inspect your shoes carefully before you decide, and Nubuck/durabuck/suede should never go inside a washing machine. General rule of thumb is to not put shoes that are older than 2010 inside a washing machine (This pair is from 2016 and had no signs of damage). Also you must use cold water because as you mentioned the hot water is what could cause damage (like seperation). Lastly, I recommend high quality detergents like Tide or Arm & Hammer. Fragrance free might even be better too, due to less ingredients. The washing machine is one the best tools restorers have because it helps reshape the leather too if you put in shoe trees. I’ve seen machine cycles at the laundromat vary from 15-30 mins, so you could always go with a 15 minute cycle if you’re worried something might happen. Finally, they should air dry outside or near a fan. Not in sunlight because the heat can cause damage.
