    I have been following you since you've started and was very very skeptical. I mean, I can do that all by myself, so I used your dotfiles and tinkered with it. But now! You, my dear sir, have out paced me. I don't even feel the need to tinker myself anymore as you have made it all too easy with your own tools. I LOVE IT! I run your dotfiles on my laptop and on my desktop, again I LOVE IT. The only thing I add is TLP UI for better power management on my laptop. The rest I don't have to change anymore. I am using your dotfiles since way back, i cant even remember when. in the beginning i just used them because they where the prettiest and thought through dotfiles. A beautiful theme and some really nice backgrounds. you cam a long way and the growth seems almost exponential. i skipped a few versions, but not that far of a jump and what you made with 2.8.3 is just incredible. also the settings app. dont get me wrong, i like to tinker in arch and do a lot from terminal. but sometimes a gui is just way more convenient.
    the only thing i now always have to edit is the themes with the order of the icons in waybar and i like to display the temperature of my system. apart from that it seems just complete. but i would have asid the same thing 2 months ago. and yet you surprised me again with this. keep up the good work. just awesome.

    First of all many thanks for all of your hard work and particularly for being gracious enough to share it. I did have a couple of issues, one I have solved and one I haven’t yet solved. An audio application called audacious would not run, but I solved by installing an app which I’ve forgotten but I think it was layer-shell-qt5 which is in the aur. Perhaps this file could be included in your aur installation list and thus avoid the problem, if you could be so kind, please. 2nd problem I haven’t yet sorted - if seconds are added to the date/time format it causes that portion of the waybar enclosing date/time to nudge slightly when the seconds reach certain digits. Hopefully this will be fairly easy to fix. Again thanks for your hard work.

    • @mylinuxforwork
      @mylinuxforwork  3 місяці тому

      Hi. Thanks for testing. Need to check is layer-shell-qt5 brings sideeffects to other package. But you have it now installed and it will not removed from a ML4W Dotfiles update. The waybar clock module doesn't support the update of seconds every second, as far as I know.

    • @davidrichardson2513
      @davidrichardson2513 3 місяці тому

      Thanks for your time. The seconds does work, does update correctly every second (“interval”: 1,), but has the effect of nudging the bar occasionally due to the differing size of the digits. Again, thanks for your hard work it is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for your work on this and updates! Got a new laptop a few weeks ago and installed arch with hyperland and it's running great!
    Does anyone else have an issue when certain apps are active and you go to launch Rofi and the focus is kept by the previous active window and not switched over to rofi? So I then have to move my mouse to be able to type in rofi... It started happening a few days ago, not sure if the issue lies in ML4W configs or hyprland/wayland which also got updated the same day.
    So far it seems to happen if I have a terminal as the active window (kitty and alacritty tested) or a file manager such as nautilus. But for example if I'm on my web browser and launch rofi then focus gets switched over to rofi and I can type right away. I guess it seems to be if another app is "using" the keyboard then rofi doesn't get the focus on launch?
    I have follow_mouse = 1, mouse_refocus = true in my config and also tried to put a window rule for Rofi (stayfocused) but the issue still persists. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

      You can use the settings app for customization. With configuration variations you can create your own independent Hyprland configuration and with your own waybar theme you can customize your status bar. And with the installation hook you can remove selected folders from your custom configuration before the installation script starts overwriting the files. A lot is possible…. Describe on Gitlab.

    I have also modified a lot of the hypr scripts, so for me to do an upgrade I may have to do it manually. Lots of cool features for sure, but I don't want to break my system. However, if the nested brace problem disappears, I will consider it.

    I tried a fresh install with the latest archinstall then I ran your Hyprland install from your git channel. It had an red error bar where Waybar is, so I ran this ML4W Dotfiles 2.8.3 incase that fixed the issue and it did, but after the process was finished, I noticed there was no wallpaper.
    I repeated the whole install 2 times and I still have no wallpaper. I have Waybar, and all the apps seem to work (event the wallpaper app runs without error), but whatever wallpaper I choose it never appears on the window background. However, the Waybar colours do change to match the wallpaper I choose.
    The apps all run and I'm not getting any error messages, but where should I look for error logs regarding the install of your dotfiles? I think something must be failing during the install.

      There is currently an issue with the AUR package swww to setup the wallpaper in the dotfiles. It's not compiling correctly during the installation procedure. You will not have a wallpaper after the installation. Please install after the dotfiles installation or update version of swww with:
      sudo rm /usr/lib/debug/usr/bin/swww-daemon.debug (if the file exits)
      sudo rm /usr/lib/debug/usr/bin/swww.debug (if the file exits)
      yay -S swww-git
      Will update you as soon swww has fixed the issue.

    Is there anyway to make customizations for waybar modules.json stay after updating?

    • @mylinuxforwork
      @mylinuxforwork  3 місяці тому +1

      Yes. You can protect every file from updating with an installation hook. You create a hook.sh in the dotfiles-versions folder. This file will be executed before the installation moves the new files from dotfiles-versions/2.8.3.2 for example to the target folder dotfiles. That means if you add a remove command for the modules.conf into the hook.sh like rm ~/dotfiles-versions/$version/waybar/modules.conf the file will not be updated. More information here gitlab.com/stephan-raabe/dotfiles#installation-hook

      When you're using the ML4W Dotfiles you can use the keybinding SUPER + p to pass the Super Key to the VM. Works in Qemu but not sure if it works in vbox and vmware as well. It's also documented in the hyprland Wiki.
