The Ultimate Doom - E4M2: Perfect Hatred (UV, Pistol Start)

- If you thought the PSX version was nasty, then you need to wake up.
This is undoubtedly the hardest level in all of The Ultimate Doom. Ammo is somewhat scarce, and there are Barons at almost every turn outside of the main chamber, which if attacked immediately after one another, can drain ammo resources in no time.
The trick is to take things slowly, going back to scrounge extra shells whenever available, and taking out monsters from vantage points. Once you get your hands on the Plasma Rifle, things get considerably easier, although merely spraying a load of destructive energy at everything won't solve your problems at all. - Ігри
I would like everyone to know that I made it all the way to this level without realizing there is a sprint button.
I didn’t know either until I saw this comment...
@@inthebasement1592 ha, same.
Same here, haha.
What...The... Duck... THERE IS A SPRINT BUTTON!?
Man, you are like a living Terminator. You never miss a shot and strife most skillfully. Unbeliable.
Un-what?
I'm Sorry. It's "unbelievable".
The level design on this is so fiendish. I've just finished TNT Evilution and its repeated huge open area fire trade-offs got stale- then I played this tiny level and had a blast with all the claustrophobia. The chainsaw definitely comes into its own here.
True, a lot of us have beat this map on a UV/Pistol Start run. But so many more haven't; this is just here to help the less fortunate.
Started playing doom again and this level out of the entire game and expansions kicked my ass so many times
"This is undoubtedly the hardest level in all of The Ultimate Doom"
Agreed.
4:36 - You got the "ouch face"!
I have finished this level on UV before but learned some new tricks from your demo, thanks!
Thank god they at least have the courtesy to stock you up at the end of this and at the start of E4M3 so that you don't enter the next level COMPLETELY ammo-drained.
I've beaten this level on UV *today*, though I had a little shotgun from E4M1. Man, what a beast of a level.
After this, it's smooth sailing until you hit E4M6.
Right now, I'm at E4M7 and so far it isn't that hard.
E4M2 seems to be the hardest "official" Doom level ever.
@underpantssquirrel
It didn't 'randomly' die. I telefragged it.
damn i searched this becuz after i killed everyone from the start point i couldnt figure out where to go, and I tried just jumping across like a 10 times at least. Good video though, glad someone actually put this level on tube.
How the fuck do you go over the gap like that? I can't do that.
I've been trying UV pistol start without knowing about any secrets for like 2 hours, thanks
I have Doom downloaded from the Xbox Live Arcade. I'm working on getting the achievement for beating this episode on Hurt Me Plenty difficulty or higher, and I was stuck. However, thanks to this awesome video, I just now beat it! (= haha, thank you for uploading this! You beasted it up! =)
Lol, I love how you started the level. I'm doing that for all levels.
I emerged from E4M2, bloody but triumphant, and when I looked back I saw two sets of bloody footprints, yet in that dark place of Perfect Hatred there were but one. I turned to the Lord and I did say "Lord, did you carry me through this WAD?"
And the Lord said, "You're fucking joking mate! You let me behind at House of Pain!"
"Then who carried me?" I asked.
"DeimosComaBlack did," the Lord replied, "and don't you fucking forget it!"
John Romero make this map in 8 Hours
no, starts at midnight and finish at 6am. 6 hours ;)
Respect, I have just beaten this level on ultra violence and got 100% everything. But it was with the PS3 PSN port, where you can save anywhere, almost like an emulator. I must have died like 50 times. Would have been more if I didn't know the cyberdemon trick. The idea of beating this level all in one go with such class and precision boggles my mind.
OK so I finally beat episode 4 today. E4M2 and E4M6 are the two hardest maps in the episode. E4M1 is the most unforgiving simply because there are practically no ways to restore health. All others are relatively simple, if a bit tricky in places.
@OUfootballAuthority
Early on, it's about making every shot count. If you can kill all the Cacodemons at the start without expending too much ammo/health, you've just earned yourself some considerable breathing room.
fuckin pro start
The cyberdemon scared the CRAP out of me when I saw it the first time I played this level. It's hard.
One thing I have to say about that beginning is the infighting should be utilized as much as possible. There were a few cacodemons that were focused on you then went to fighting the imps and whatnot and you wasted a few shells there. Very good though; I personally don't play pistol start because I'm a wimpy wimp.
nicely done
Hands down the hardest level in Ultimate Doom.
Very good! I didn't even know you could teleport on the Cyber Demon...
dude, u are the god mode of this game lol
A fresh pistol start is actually an advantage in E4M2 as opposed to starting it after completing E4M1. It is impossible to get through E4M1 with much ammo left at all (there isn't much supplied), and you're really really good if you can leave with 100% health as there are no medkits or stimpacks (nine health potions, 12 armor helmets). It is crowded and has five barons.
If you're low on health from the previous level, first thing to do is grab the rad suit and book it to the supercharger. Easier said than done.
I'll eventually get around to a full playthrough, I guess. From here on out though, E4 isn't too bad, with the possible exception of E4M6.
Telefragging the cyberdemon: priceless.
Well thanks to you I finally completed Perfect Hatred in 10 mins on Hurt Me Plenty. Got 98% kills cuz I didn't know how to kill the Cyberdemon. But was pretty epic.
Any tips for Sever the Wicked? I got owned from the get go.. :-(
thanks
howd you jump the ledge at 1:50?
i did what u did but kept falling
I'm trying to beat this level on UV. But there is so many damn demons and practicaly no cover. But your vid gave me some ideas.
This level is a pain in just about any version, but the DOS version especially. (which is also the XBOX Live version pretty much... Ugh.... I'm stuck here. But thanks for showing this, this gives me some nice strategic ideas.
Impressive
I've previously had a word with E4M6, and then I pissed in its face while laughing about abundances of ammo from the very beginning.
In other words, I've already recorded a run of that.
Y'know what's fun? getting through the grey area with the lost souls, killing the blue skull Baron and going through the teleporter only to be immediately killed by another Baron of hell. Fun. Fun. F̷̻̤͙̰̦͚̹U͖N̤͇͚̗̤̣̭͡.̖̜͕͙̝̼̹
I think this level was very well named. XD
This my favorite map
I have.
It's possibly the best weapon mod out there.
Didn't want to bother with the secret exit? It was all you were missing to UV-Max this. On the other hand, I do think this is the only video that doesn't exploit the BFG trick.
Although sadly I didn't know you could telefrag that cyberdemon and pumped loads of rockets into it in an inefficient and panicky manner.
Just finished this map the other day on the hardest difficulty; it was such a pain in the neck having to restart a hundred times after dieing haha, nice vid though, but you missed the secret exit :/
i have the xbox 360 version of this game and how do u get across at the starting
Stuck on this map right now, giving me some trouble. So many damn barons! I'm scared to play the plutonia maps though, people saying that their harder than this haha
Ouch!
how do u telefrag the cyberdemon?
This level really isn't *that* bad once you get the hang of it.
I agree
I wish I could strafe/strife on the app
i remember beating this level and the whole episode on ultra violence when i was just 12 years old
Probably one of the hardest (if not hardest) levels in Classic Doom's history.
@WhiteNightRiots You better don't search 'Go 2 it on Nightmare!'.
>Hardest level in Doom 1
E4M6 would like to have a word with you. :V
It's still capable of some things that DECORATE is useless at without a bunch of ACS scripting.
I'm pretty well-versed at both formats, but I still prefer DDF. Especially when it comes to fully replacing weapons/monsters - the originals still exist in zdoom/gzdoom/skulltag.pk3, and as such can still be inadvertantly placed/equipped, which can cause all sorts of problems in certain game modes.
I've just complited it yesterday on UV, SP and FM 100% xD even through I'm playing with DOOM EDGE it was freaking hard
if possible, you should sometimes let the Baron attack the Cacodemon accidentally and watch them fight. Once they drain eachother's health, you can attack them. I'm just giving an idea.
You just... run off the edge.
Check my video list; a 'guide' to that map is in there somewhere! :P
Heh, yeah. I loved the Ultimate Doom maps. Doom 2 difficulty without the extra enemies or weapons. However, it's not really all that balanced. Gets easier as you go. Plus, even the harder levels (like this) are kinda deceptive. Once you get passed the beginning trap and esp. the baron trap, it's decently easy to beat.
How did that Cyberdemon just randomly die?
Oh, I know :)
Again...
"I didn't miss it, I chose not to use it."
holy fuck, those cacodemons always piss me off. And the barons ever worse.
I just jumped my way to the exit w/o blue or yellow key...can u imagine how difficult that is w/o d blue key
@cuddlydog Secret exit?
Personally, I find Hell Beneath harder, at least on UV. Low ammo and even less healing, with _multiple Barons._
ou can kill the cyberdemon quite safely I have found using the rocket laucher and plasma gun but the of course the downside is you use alot of ammo. After you kill the cacodemons position oyurself near the entry door and face him if you are in thew right position and angle the cyberdemon will lauch rockets but they will hit wall and you should recieve little dmage. It takes a while using your plasma gun and rocket laucher just keep firing and eventually it dies.
You can just telefrag it
Hahaha, I like that one.
@tshirtjay There's a secret exit that leads to E4M9, I have a video of it (Doom E4M2 "Perfect Hatred" UV-MAX) though Anders Johnsen does it in a much more clear and fast manner. You can see him here:
/watch?v=xFuPv9WEgOI
Just ad it to the end of your youtube url.
Ok so it looks like beating this level will be impossible on my computer...for some reason if I try to strafe, fire, and move at the same time, the entire display rotates (e.g. strafing left while firing makes the display turn 90 degrees so everything is sideways. I got to the part in this level where you get the plasma rifle, but it seems impossible to get past all those barons and get the orange key without being able to strafe and fire simultaneously.
What's funny is that I first played Doom in the mid 90s when I would have been somewhere around 6 or 7 years old. I was taught to play by my Dad, who apparently didn't know about strafing in the original Doom games. So, until very recently, I didn't know you could strafe at all in these games. So I've beaten every level in Doom and Doom II (except every level in Thy Flesh Consumed past the first level, obviously) on Ultra-Violence without strafing. If I could only manage to make my computer's display not flip around, I might be able to finally beat Thy Flesh Consumed and make some progress in Nightmare...
+Will Davies That's a retarded (and useless) shortcut to rotate the display. You can disable it in your video driver control panel AFAIK (I've never actually been hit by this issue).
omg this map is so difficult!
nm now, i just found the sprint button, but thx anyways
I'm playing the game all the way through for the first time right now (yes, ever), and I'm a little disappointed that Episode 4 is only harder because of more, tougher enemies. Just throwing a bunch of bullet sponges at the player is lame. I guess it is a 20 year old game, so I can understand, but I'm finding it difficult to want to continue this frustration.
The 9 dislikes are probably given by Imps
I'm playing it on ps 3 e4m2 and I cant go across the first opening to hit the switch. please help!!
I can't make that either, how do you do it?
Hold down L1
Kara Noodwang Thanks! Didn't even know Sprinting was a thing.
Me neither... no prob
And on Xbox it’s left trigger
Anybody knows where to download duke 3d with gud seeds
@cuddlydog
I didn't miss it, I chose not to use it.
Meh. Deimos did pretty well but a lot of us have beaten this map on UV. What I'd like to see is someone beat this map on Nightmare, now whoever could do that would be worthy of what you said..
@DeimosComaBlack I like you.
I thought this level was in episode 3? Doesn't matter. The thing is that no matter how many times play this map, I end up having to use God mode.
John Romero made this in 6 hours.
Not to mention on ps4 they added a shit ton of cacodemons at the beginning
Nah it's the same amount.
1:52 did you just fuckigg JUNP
Yes, I junped. My honour remains intact though, for I didn't jump.
.gets yellow key. .3 barons appears. OH, YOU MUST BE KIDDING ME!!!
thats where I got and they ate my soul lol
@roxasfruit
None of that, danke.
How much does the Doom guy get paid a week to take on these monsters from hell?
@archy9752 Wrong link, here's the right one:
/watch?v=Dza6DQvQj-Y
I don't.
I run, like every other Doomer.
ME 2!
It's fucking impossible to finish at Black Metal difficulty
Which is why BD is terrible, and you should feel terrible for using it.
Jim Wielebny black metal aint no doom difficulty i ever heard of
nagasockittome Brutal Doom
man ill acknowledge hdoom difficulties before that bd garbage
nagasockittome what's wrong with brutal doom?
this lvl is near fucking impossible on UV pistol start omg
Nah. Just learn the flow of things.
@@DeimosComaBlack yea i just beat it . check the vid on my channel. i didnt even know about the telefrag or BFG though lol
L4D sucks balls.
i dont know how john romero could slip up this bad. all his maps in episode 1 are great, but this one is just awful. i know that he made it in 6 hours, but thats no excuse. tiny platforms above lava pits in a game with no jump button and barons of hell spawning right in your face out of nowhere is NOT good level design.
That is what makes it memorable. It is so hard even though it is only the second level in the episode.
You can't run? Shame.
Uuuuuum. This doesn't look hard at all man, it looks like a normal level, just with many enemies. And all they do is shoot slow projectiles. I mean, maybe it just looks easy, but I feel like I played way harder stages in modern shooters.
+Patryk Żukowski skilled players make things look way easier than they actually are. out of curiosity, what stages from modern shooters do you feel are harder?
looooooool yeah ok
worst map in my opinion
"I never new their was a sprint key"
Who's a dipshit?
This is such a noob playthrough LAAAAAAL
