"And you turn up the radio and feel safe"
I feel it
Well dang mr dang.
What a creative, inspirational, and fresh take from Common's "I used to love H.E.R." and spinning it to a poignant, relevant take for the modern age. As Common spit as per what hip hop used to be with a dash of cynicism but still filled with hope. Alex spit it in a way that continues where Common may off of left off but still manages to make it even more razor sharp and honest up still positive and uplifting as it reaches the end. Awesome job Alex Dang. Keep the faith and the awesome writing.
btw, the reference with Kendrick Lamar is that he did his own version of "Monster" by Kanye West, where he called out a lot of legendary rappers in the game. And that was when he was broke as hell in 2010, and the legendary "Control" verse didn't even hit the markets.
Alex Dang's poems are always my favorite. ^_^
I just love this boy. His word is pretty amazing.
i love every piece he performs
Same
He's literally my favorite I've watched all his slam poetry
Amazing. 100% on point. Came for the Common reference in the title, stayed for the rest. This was a gift.
Started off thinking it was OK. Later thought this guy is full of BS. By the end he won me over. Excellent work.
*OH MY GOODNESS WOW that was incredible and the Strange Fruit reference subtly slipped in their made me gasp! This is an amazing statement UGH i can't verbalise how good this is and how important the message is!*
The title was what got me to click, he's amazing.
I Used to Love H.E.R. is a song by Common, and it fits perfectly with his poems message
He's from another planet. Both the writing and the delivery are magnificent
damn, alex dang is so good! Never disappointed with this guy! amazing!
Alex Dang got me like.
once again my spirit animal
Music is very strong. I get you
Love him !
Have you guys ever thought of making a podcast channel?
Best idea I have ever seen.
Hi Madison! What kind of stuff would you like to see in a Button podcast?
Button Poetry I was thinking just the short poems. One poem per podcast. Either upload all of them but if that's too much just the ones that are popular.
I would love that!! Especially if it was on soundcloud. Maybe even discussions with poets on why they write etc
Button Poetry
You could run it like The Moth podcast. You could group a couple of poems together thematically or from an event and perhaps even invite the poets to talk about them. I feel running a poem per podcast would make them extremely short, but that could work as well I guess.
Yes!!
this gave me chills
Beautiful!
If Common's "I Used to Love H.E.R." and Robbie Q. Telfer's "Clowns" had a baby, it would be this poem.
Dang, pun intended. :)
incredible
O_O daaaaaaaaaaaang.
That was amazing :)
Bravo
i want to learn how to write poems
same
who doesnt after watching a thousand of these
And you turn up the radio and feel safe. :)
Mmm Dang Alex
woah
how do they memorise their poem lines?
Just like when i write an essay for school. i memorize the entire thing right after writting it. because when i do, i put every bit of focus I have on that essey so memorizing it comes naturally. I think :)
Reem Reem Thanks for your answer :) well I too become quite engrossed in my writing, but memorising that amount of text (would certainly be very helpful) seems beyond my reach
Shane Koyczan - Tomatoes would be a good poem to explain that.
the same way actors memorise their lines, repetition, practise, repetition, practise and then some more repetition
Wut about Eminem
alex, are you from Colorado?
please cc your videos. the automatic cc are horrendously wrong and make no sense.
