Best idea for a boat like that, get her up on the hard and let the hull dry out a bit. Make sure it's sound. Once dry enough, coat the exterior of the hull in epoxy and fiberglass. It'll waterproof and seal the hull, reduce maintenance costs going forward, and extend her usable life. The same can be done with the deck to prevent fresh water intrusion. It's a fair bit of work, and a little expense, but it'll preserve this beautiful old lady and keep her happy and out on the water. She won't be a fiberglass boat, she'll just have a fancy sheathing protecting her hull. And anything topside should be painted. Varnished wood looks great, but UV exposure and fresh water destroy the stuff in quick time, unless you're constantly on it. The pigment in a good epoxy-based paint will prevent UV exposure, and the epoxy will keep the fresh water out. Again, more work, but worth while in the end.

I've read that this I just a temporary fix and will cause the boat to rot out and destroy it, there's a series on here showing a boat that I'd about to be restored where this has been done and is now being removed to be restored properly.

The boat is abandoned in Dartmouth now, owing a few thousand in mooring fees. She is currently for sale and desperately needs a new custodian to return her back to operation
