Thank you for this video! I thought my SB 900 needed a tube. Upon opening the top end I discovered the firing circuit wire was broken. I would have had a difficult time figuring out where it went but your video showed me exactly! THANK YOU!
Is the discharging point similar to all other brand flash?? I have a godox v1 for which it has intermittent flash with abnormal low power when i press the test button.
Make sure you use a fairly high-voltage bulb. I used a 12-volt automobile lamp and it fried the fuse inside the bulb and made a loud "bang!" Terrifying.

I have a Nikon 910 that sat around too long without batteries. When I put in fresh batteries and turn on it does not power up. I heard it may need to be left with batteries in and turned on to help build up capacitor and get it working again. Any suggestions?

it can be just corrosion. First clean the battery contact surfaces even if they look clean. You can use ammonia. Second, move the on off switch back and fort many times to get rid of any possible corrosion. Two times i seen these flashes having issues with main capacitors set discharged for too long. One time the charge circuit exploded and the second time the flashed turned on but didnt function. Yours just doesnt turn on so it makes me think that it either not getting any voltage because of a problem in the battery compartment or there is a problem with the on off switch. Anything else will require some disassembly so if you need to take the flash apart you can contact me again. And you will need a multimeter
Hello. What is the voltage of the light bulb you used to discharge the capacitor? Was the light bulb destroyed after that? Thanks

i usually use a 220v 100 watt lamp and lamps never died while I use them. You can experiment with bulbs. If one bulb dies you can just try one with a higher voltage or watt. The only thing necessary is having a bulb with filament.
Nice video. How do you tighten the swivel neck that has gone slack?

There is a metal ring and plastic detent with spring which applies pressure. These are the first things I would check. Since I can't see the parts myself I can't really acvidce a solution but you have to take it apart that's for sure.
I have a flash with a stain on the display, it looks like a bad polarizing filter, how do I do it?

If the stain is not a big problem, i would not try to repair it. Lcds are fragile and i broke a couple lcds while i want to try repairing them. If you damage the lcd and there are no replacement lcds you will hate yourself forever.
Is it really necessary to 'discharge' the capacitor? what would happen if I skip that part? Thanks for the video BTW.

Welll... Not discharging a capacitor is not an illegal activity.. but.. If you make a mistake around 400 volts may shock you or fry the circuit of the flash. In either case you will really regret not discharging it. Once you are very experienced with the device you can decide that you dont need to discharge for the particular repair your are doing. I always discharge unless i forgot to do it.
I have a godox TT520 ii flash and it doesn't fire when pressing the test button. do you have any idea what kind of flashtube do I have to buy for this kind of flash?

i just saw your comment but if you have the dimension of the original godox tube i may help you if you can use any nikon tube on that one
@ of course I will. I checked with my part supplier and fortunately they have the Rubycon 350v/1700u ‘photo series’ cap and comes in some 30x50 round packaging (I don’t remember the exact numbers). I believe rubycon’s caps are pretty much standard for all Nikon flashes, but the info of sb 910 on the internet is so scarce, so as the last step I will try to do it, but before that I will replace the tube
Hi I have two SB 900. one has a warning and the other won't even turn on, what can be done Do you have any good tips?

Not working one will probably be corroded battery contacts. The other one i dont know. seen perhaps 50 of them and none of them came wtih an error. if you are in EU maybe i can take a look at them since i want to repair defective devices from susbcribers. if you want to learn yourself than just take them apart and play with them. In my video i explained all the important details.

Check the battery contacts for melted plastic or corrosion on metals. If they are in good condition then you can open the lower part of the flash. There is a thermal fuse attached to the battery housing. Perhaps it is burned
Sorry for late reply, was not sure your gonna reply so quick. There is no melting or defect on battery compartment, can you give me details of the capacitor to be repaired , does it need soldering ? Thanks for your valuable help
Sorry but you dont repleace plastick fresnell lens on front the flashgun. It is long time used because is mat and some melted and not transparent like must be is no from glass and high temp resistantand capability to work during some flash tubes. One flash tube and one fresnel by one replacement.

I am in Germany. I would look in Ebay first then try to get them somewhere else in your country. Aliexpress can be an option but shipping time can be too long. Soldering is not so hard unless you have good quality solder. I can't even solder if the solder is bad.
@ Thank you so much for answering my question... one thing I didn't understand - is what you cut the little wire for? I couldnt work out what you soldered that to?
Hi, I have a Nikon sb-26. In Manual mode it gives the same output everytime. The same with 1/1 power and 1/64 power. Do you have any idea what could cause the problem ? Thank you?
@@gustavmoritz3526 Then your manual mode sensor or circuit has some problem. Hopefully just the cable is damaged. If you never worked with flashes then dont waste time use it in the A mode. Otherwise you have to open the head of the flash. The manual mode sensor is right behind the glass. It has to get reflected light so be sure it is not blocked etc. Fallow it so see if you can find the error.

350v 1750uf for sb900. As far as i know sb910 capacitor has a lower capacity.

if you have a decent soldering iron you can do it. but you need good solder wire. cheap solder wire wont let you do any soldering at all.
