HOW TO CUT & GROOM: the Jelly Roll Pompadour a.k.a. The Elephants Trunk

- Due to popular demand here it is... Another step-by-step of how we work at Schorem Haarsnijder & Barbier. We said it once, we’ll say it again, we are NOT saying this is the only or the best way, it’s A WAY and the only reason we post these is not for our personal 15 minutes of fame or glory but because we seriously hope they may help other hair aficionados with little tips and tricks to on how to or maybe not to improve their skills with classic cuts. Today we showcase one of the haircuts which a rich but slightly mystical history, the Jelly Roll Pompadour a.k.a. The Elephants Trunk as made famous by the notorious Teddy Boys..
This cut comes in many varieties but the most common is a cut with quite some lengths on the sides and in the back usually combed into a D.A. with a bit of a mullet left on the collar. Most Teds probably never went to barbershops because well, back in those days most barbers would go to short and it was the longer hair that shouted: “Fuck you, I’m a rebel” and cut it themselves and funny fact, I used to cut these LONG BEFORE I even went to barberschool... Enjoy!

The exact reason for my watching of this lol
Same
It helps that the client has perfect hair for this haircut.
Every barber video is at least 50% the model's hair.
Joey Suggs straight up DNA...u can’t fix ugly😎
Alloneword, the barber knew exactly what to do with that hair.
Claudio Saltara. Yes. It’s amazing work
I doubt it would work on mine

🤘🏻💀
My grandfather used to style his hair like this in the 1950's there are pictures of him and my mom has a baby with, His hair in a pompadour or a jelly roll. And he kept his pompadour up until the day he died. He was a bad boy and he wanted everyone to know it. He was also a big teddy bear, and one of the sweetest man you could meet.
Nice Story❤️
I love the full length tutorials!!!! Keep them coming brotha!!! Love the classics , it gets old when every video is a bald fade.... we all know how to do a skin fade, we need more videos on the classics
You guys are legends, don’t pay the troll toll. These are great cuts and so much fun to watch, keep doin what you’re doin!
The camera was going in and out of focus so much it made my head hurt, but the haircut was great.
Ryan Kosak i thought it was meant to make the viewer feel as if they had a couple few LOL
Horrible camerawork, yes
Nah it was good stfu crybaby
Worst camera work ever.
The client looks like he just got released from a German prison in the 1940s
he also has scar in his neck look carefully
@@yokodoko904 you reckon he's a victim of sweeney todd?
For men who didn't give a shit about a lot back in the days they must of took a lot of time doing their hair tbh
Thought the same thing. I mean, how long did it take them to do their hair?
That's why if you mess with their hair, they fk u up.
You gotta care about something it might as well be your hair
Good lord the focus on the camera is giving me eye cancer
BUT - amazing work by the barber, love the authenticity
The lens aperture was set too wide open and created a very shallow field-of-depth.
The camera person needed to set the aperature at around f/8 or f/11 and set the exposure at 1/30.
For a tutorial video, it's best to keep things simple. Otherwise, the artsy fartsy camerawork becomes too distracting.
With the prison aesthetics the buzzing sound in the background made me think someone was getting a prison tattoo xD
Love the cut! Shout out josuke
Your videos are the reason I have a pompadour. Keep up the good work and keep being masters of your craft.
THANK YOU!
My dad was a Teddy boy in Birmingham UK ..Rode a BSA rocket bike. I have a pictute of him with his hair like this in the full gear...Good stuff.
That client has a fantastic head of hair! Great cut tutorial. More classics, please! You rock! 👍🏻😀
The barber look like he just got released from prison...
I wore orange and red
I just found this channel, and I'd LOVE to hear the barber's story. We all have one! ✌🏼🕊
He looks like he never left.
John Doe I thought this was in a prison before I clicked on it.
I thought this was in prison
I FUCKING LOVE THESE CUTS ! holy shit , finally someone with ATTITUDE and not everything having to be straight lines and pink biebers and blue biebers ,FUCK yeah
This was a great video. I love your knowledge of the history in these haircuts and that you do share some of that with the cut. You are a true hair artist.
I’d kill for that gents head of hair!! Seeing this jelly roll reminds me of the great Bo Diddley video of “Roadrunner” with all the Teddy’s out of their minds dancing! Great tutorial as always Rob!
Yeah, man. That’s the dirty rock n’ roll hair right there! Nicely done. 👌🏻
I really love what you're doing. Really really love what you're doing.
Really? ;)
This is the greatest haircut video I’ve ever seen.🤘🏿🤘🏿⚡️🏴🏴
fc from Thailand, I've been following your videos all the time. 6 years as a hairdresser, thank you. 😊🙏🏻
Coming from a barber cutting completley different hairstyles than the ones you guys do over there... I completely respect your craft. It takes more than just fading and clipper work to be a well rounded barber. And the craft that you do the correct way of adding defenition and removing bulk from those parts with the precise techniques makes you a hell of a barber. I salute you and all the Schorem barbers that really take pride in your work. Thanks for the great show brother. 🙏💈💪🏼
I love all your haircuts. I live in Detroit and it reminds me of the 50s style hotrodder car gang's back in the day. These guys were bad mother fuckers in the day. I am now a hot rodder now and love these old hair cuts. These are the most stylish and bad ass cuts ever. Thanks for sharing and keeping them alive.

YES At last! Fockin Thanks man! As former Rockabilly-dude from south of Stockholm Sweden interest in Rock- history, This is nowdays almoust forgotten knowledge. So you´re doning a great job telling this. In the historyof rythmnblues Swing and Rockabilly different type of greaser-scens all over the world appears. But the brittish Teddyboys, the Mexican Zootsuits and the Australian Milkbar cowboys stands out. I´m not originally from the swedish ”raggar-culture” im from thepunk-scene, and now im back there. (The word"Raggare" a very watered down version of the rockabilly culture, which in Swedish means to "pick up chics " on the street, in the pub or at a fast food restaurant) which startet 1959 when the movie blackboard jungle was new to the cinemas. Their culture is based on the car, not the motorcycle as all the other rockabillybranches (That is, a low American car from the 50's with a lot of chrome, not a car from the 30s and the 40s as as the Latin and American car-borne) All other branches started with the rumble in Hollister1947 and the hollywood movie the wild one 1953 with Marlon Brando, based on its events, as You probleby allready knows.
My question is, Is there some australian hairdoos from the Milkbar cowboys, that you kan thell us about ?
Dude doing the cut is a beast and yes I know the guy getting the cut has good hair but without the right stuff and the right person doing the work you get a big puffball stay fresh my friends stay fresh
Just what I needed for New year's party, Thanks for the hook up, butcher!

Man, you are a true artist! that dude has perfect hair for that cut and it turned out amazing! My problem is I'm in America and have no way to visit your shop BUT as you said most of the guys back in the day cut their own anyway. So I have no choice but to do a perfect job on myself if I want to look good so tomorrow it's makit or breakit and I can do it thanks to your video ( I hope) Thanks for a fantastic video man! You really are an artist!

Huzzah, nicely done. Top Notch sir.
He needs to take that hair on tour, great head of hair
I only came across this randomly and it was really fun to watch
Amazing tutorial on cut and how to style a elephant truck or jelly roll. The camera man could use a tripod and stay in focus a little longer so that we can see what is going on easier. Great job, and thank you.
Thanks Sal! With the tripod he'll be less maneuverable. Maybe for new tutorials we'll use both. 💪🤠
This dudes hair is perfect. That had to help some.
