- This took me like 3 hours to accomplish, Red lizards are pretty tenacious! But here's a really basic how to on taming the rare red liz, with a lil counter on the side for convenience.
Before you ask, Red Lizard spawns after you stay in one area for a long time, and possibly kill a lot of lizards. I stayed in Outskirts for 40 cycles and killed 1 lizard minimum for 30 or so of them. I've heard some people stayed for way less time and got it to spawn, so there's no definite way to make it appear.
The cicadas can be found far, far left from my starting shelter in the video, and the red lizard may be in different places depending on what day and what time it is.
Also, for some reason, Red doesn't want to get in a shelter with me, dunno if that's a red lizard thing or if he's a greedy little shit who needs more cicadas :/ might do a brief update vid if I ever get him in there

i find it funny how the red lizard seems stop actively hunting the slugcat after like 6 feedings. But still insists on spiting at it every chance it gets until its fully tamed

There are two food tresholds for lizards: the "I guess there's better food out there" and then the "This little white thing is actually nice. I'ma protecc."
Green lizards are easy to tame and will be loyal
Mine saved me from getting eaten by the cost of its own life
And pink is just fucking anoying to tame (but at least they eat the noodleflies)
@@somerandomdude9657 Green lizards are also idiots who can't keep up with you. I would much rather tame a different lizard who will not be as strong, but will at least be there when I need help and not stuck in a ditch somewhere 2 rooms away

and can travel trough pipes that other lizards cant (i think so at least bc my pink couldnt travel trough a pipe that a green that atacked me did)
No cicadas were hurt in the process of this friendship

It took a lot more cicadas than you needed. You were taming two of them. When the scene shifts you can see how the amount of back spikes changed. I imagine that one red lizard will take 6 cicadas.
Yeppppp, there were absolutely two.... I only realized that in my second vid when I managed to get both of the lizards on the same screen lol

@@Searonix I mean with two red lizards u could go through some areas of while doing absolutely nothing (then in other areas you have worm grass, long legs, leviathans, and guardians but still.
@@Searonix dying will also reset it if you didn’t manage to sleep during the day you fed it.

It appears naturally as the hunter, but can also spawn as survivor and monk via lineage

My first one spawned in the garbage place and died after my first encounter. I didn’t even know they spit. In case you were wondering it probably got killed by a daddy long legs because it was at that area when I first found it.
Edit: Actually, it was probably a pink lizard with the color red.

That was how it used to be, the recent updates make so much more difference, especially on the steam version where you can have it easier as a golden slugcat. The version I and probably you played for the first time was the alpha release which was absurdly hard and random even for experienced players, food was hard to find and literally everything wanted to kill you. I'm glad the developers addressed the issues of the original in the subsequent patches and honestly now, with the attempt at making entities interdependent, the game has become a lot more forgiving. The game has a chance at greatness yet!
Agreed. It's a really nice trick you can do if you feel lonely or need some extra help in the game.

You can tame all the lizards
I love how possibly the strongest enemy is tameable and it becomes nice and calm.

Leviathan. It’s huntable/ killable yes.
And king vulture. Lizards are just chill.
This isn’t the strongest enemy, everything can be eaten by almost anything (Red centipedes, Red lizards, king vultures, Miros birds, and DDLs are pretty much apexes), except worm grass and leviathans, those can eat anything else
Red lizard may not be the strongest, but in my opinion it's the most dangerous, as king vultures lack the mobility, persistency and ability to go through pipes that the red lizards have, and leviathans cannot go through pipes and cannot move on land. Red centipedes are dangerous too, but they are blind so simply sneaking past them on poles works.
@@psychicchicken5263 centipedes in rain world can see from bum and face, they have two sets of eyes.

My sister actually managed to tame one of those things.. But the problem is that it was in the Industrial place and it had a hard time getting around. It got stuck in a hole somewhere and she was forced to leave it behind in order to carry on with her exploration..

Lizards can climb the same things as Slugcat can climb, so yes the lizard COULD have survived it.

This Is like 5 years late but for anyone in a similar problem, It seems that leaving the region, maybe even Just having the cycle pass, Will cause the lizard to get unstuck, they shouldn't die to the Rain

I’m watching two pixelated creatures go from being enemies to friends and it fills me with pure joy for some reason.
I tried feeding people 12 cicadas but none of them became my friends :(

I am pretty sure if you keep feeding it you will fully tame it which causes it to follow you and help you fight.

How long do things stay tamed to you when you're gone?
I always assumed they would stay friendly if you tossed them some food every once in a while. But what if you're out of the area?
My first tame was a Pink lizard in the shaded citadel. I fed her lantern mice. But when I had to leave she got stuck and couldn't leave with me because of the final pole. (It required a jump.)
If I went back later, would she still be my friend or would the game have reverted them to being against me again?
Similar scenario, I tamed a green one by accident but found out he was stuck in a pit that was inescapable to greens. So the only use for him was to lure enemies into the pit who were attacking me and stand next to him. If I found that pit again, would the green guy still be tame?
Yes. I'm sure of this because I've tamed lizards before and forgot about them only to come back to the region to find them again still friendly. Do note that most lizarda can get snappy despite being tamed. To fix this I just feed them.
If they want food they will snap their jaws near you wich is a warning that they are beeing "untamed" cuz they are hungry
If you feed them too much, they start following you, then when they're hungry they snap their jaw, if you fail to feed them they'll try to eat you, although i think there's a probability for this to happen and it's 0% with red lizards, because they're hard af to tame, so in resume, i got a new fren and he ascended with me lmao.

The red lizard can't hibernate with you after you tame it, but what about other animals? Can you lead them to your hibernation chambers and let them sleep with you?
it actually can hibernate with you! but it's very finicky on when it'll follow you into a shelter. other animals, like scavengers and squicadas, and lantern mice can hibernate with you no problem!
Really? Awesome, definitely enough reason to get the game, having a pet lizard accompany me across the rain world seems fun.
beware though, it's real hard for red lizards to follow you into shelters consistently. they can do it but it's rare. if u want a lizard buddy that sleeps in shelters with you every time, blue and white will follow you into most shelters with no problems

for me the hardest part is getting the fucker to spawn, in theory by killing other lizards the lineage system should spawn a red at some point but its been 30+ lizards and NOTHING

nah, one a day. I didn't want to get too cocky
So does that mean red lizard feeding progress remains over cycles? And that there's only the one red lizard per zone? Is the same true for taming all lizards, or is it only the red you can do over multiple days?
I know you CAN tame a Red in one day. Someone else tamed one before me and they mentioned feeding them all at once. All lizard feeding progress stays the same unless you hit it or something I think. red lizards in code act with the same stipulations their other lizard friends do. Whatever boundaries affect green/blue/pink/ect lizards apply to red.
I did just learn you can get multiple reds in one area, couldnt tell you how I did it tho
Centipedes are the best, actually, you can tame them with 2 - 3 adult centipede corpses.

There should be an update to this game, where the lizard doesnt try to straight up kill you when you're holding food, but rather it waits for you to feed it, because realistically an animal would learn that they receive more food from sparing a helpful creature rather than using it as prey.
realistically, depending on the animal, holding food out on them is actually worse. as an example, hold some meat in front of a wolf pack, if you don't leave it there they'll hunt you. and consider this is a game with mutated predators.

I think you tame 2 different lizards, they had only 1 nest and in your video it takes the squidcadas to 2 different nests so there was 2 lizards, maybe just maybe

Before the most recent patch, lizards in the beginning area didn't follow you into shelters as a way to prevent new players from getting killed easily by hostile ones. But now, they absolutely can follow you into your shelter no problem! Just make sure they can reach it

Just to spawn this fucker in any non hard mode difficulty requires you to mass murder lizards. And then you go and proceed to befriend him.
I've been trying to tame a red lizard on my spearmaster save file. It's cycle 22 and I have tamed 2 pink lizards and a green because they've been stealing the food I was carrying and the red lizard I was feeding died to another red lizard.

Do you have to be visually seen throwing food at lizards and hope they catch it for credit? Or do you just have to put it in their vague direction so they go for it and not you?
I'm unsure of the exact mechanics but for the most part if I am holding a food object and throw it towards or into a lizard and they catch and eat it, it usually counts. Just throwing a good item in the middle of the room and having a lizard find it later I don't believe counts? Not totally sure tho
It seems important to know. Especially when you consider how often blind lizards miss the food and backtrack to go towards the thump it makes.

yea, I just kept doing what I was doing and a red did spawn! tho I wish there was some kind of indicator when it appears...I didn't go to the right for a long time so I have no idea when he spawned in lol

Yea, you can hit them with rocks and spears and it'll still hurt them, be very careful!

I slide-speared it as Hunter about 3 times in a row *right into the face* until it tried to cripple away from me and then I killed and ate that coward for always messing around with me while I was an inexperienced NOOB being too ignorant to use the advanced techs of this game. *Time changes my red friend; ur MY food now!!* Tbh, that was one of the most satisfiying feelings I've ever had in any game.

I've been running around the outskirts for 68 cycles and i still haven't seen a red lizard, only super aggressive pink lizards.
It might be in there but in a specific place you haven't gone to lately maybe? Idk man, red lizards haven't had their formula for spawning completely figured out

You have to kill lizards. Thennwith some chance the pipe where this lizard spawned will spawn stronger lizard.

this was done before lineage was even properly data-mined and understood lol, no mods here, i just killed any lizards I could for about 100 cycles in outskirts to get these guys to spawn
