I had no interest in growing these, until I recently went to this one mexican restaurant that has this delicious green salsa made with them. Now you are making me hungry. 😄😄😄
I want to try growing these next spring if I can find some seeds. Thank you for another informative video! I always look forward to seeing your videos.
I have green and purple tomatillos and you are right they like the fall here in southern Texas, next year I will try a new one pineapple tomatillo seeds from MIgardener wondering how it will taste 😊
Thanks Robbie i will be picking up some tomatillo seeds for sure. Hey Robbie i make these Refrigerator Zucchini pickles. I just put the firmer zucchini in 8 ounce half pint jar,s.Add white vinegar ,kosher salt, dill and garlic, mustard seeds and peppercorns. they last a few weeks in the fridge. if they last that long ? so good. Since there not canned or heat processed you dont need canning lids. I use reusable plastic lids. slice your zucchini into rounds. Make the brine, combine vinegar & spices with a small saucepan, then heat the saucepan until the salt dissolves. you dont boil. Take the brine off the heat and pour into the jar over the zucchini slices. Then put the lid on the jar and let it cool to room temperture on the counter.Once it is cooled put the jar in the fridge & let it rest for one day to the flavours develop and infuse the zucchini. They keep in the fridge for 3 weeks.Serve with whatever you choose to. If your brine does not 😋quiet cover the zucchini just add more water to top the jar off. since these are fridge pickles the water / vinegar ratio is not critical. if you want a kick add some red chili peppers. Yummy. And Ta - dah your done. Enjoy. I hope you give these a whirl girl. or Lady !! Were off to Walmart look for some Tomatillo seeds.💀☠🧛🧙🧙♂🧟🐿🐦🕸🕷🎃Happy Fall Yall.
I love pickled Tomatillos. 🥰I do not grow them but our local Mexican grocery and produce store sells Pickled Tomatillos. Yummy😋I want to try growing them come springtime. My husband was born and raised in So Cal . And his mama grew these all the time and pickled them and made salsa with them. My mother in law said they were easy to grow. like you said they drop on the ground take seed. They are a pretty plant.
I had tomatilloes come up in my flower bed last year. I had no idea what they were. I took a picture of them and looked them up. When I learned the birds love them I transplanted them in a bucket. I had loads of them come up in my flower bed this year. I pulled them all out.
I had a tomatillo plant this season, sadly I apparently "gave up" on it too soon. First time growing it, now I know. Thank you for this helpful information.
Don't feel bad...all 3 of my tomatillo plants were 'no go'. Mine dried up too much when there was lots of heat & no rain. Now i know, & will try again next year. Good Luck with yours! 🍀
In 2020 I grew a tomatillo from seeds (from someone’s old bush. It did well). The next year it came out by itself (self seeding) but later died for no reason probably the summer was too hot and did not get enough water. I buried the only little fruit and crossed my fingers. This time around I am attentive to its water need. It’s been doing well and now loaded with fruits. Like you say, T prefers fall season (9b). The seedling I have emerged in late summer. First slowly until now it is growing and growing!
Your garden is A M A Z I N G!!!! I love tomatillos for salsa and chicken enchilada verdes. Thanks for sharing your gardening tips…you are so blessed ❤. Do you have a video on how to composting? Thanks Robbie❤
I grew tomatillo this spring for the first time, and it didn't fruit, I was worried I did something wrong but I have so much tomatillo now. I can't wait to grow them again.
We've discovered we really like tomatillos and grew a lot this summer. Here in N. CA they fruit and yield from July on. But Sept/Oct. is peak. I judge them ripe when the wrapper is tight around the fruit. They also keep a really long time if kept in their paper-like wrapper. It dries and shrinks around the fruit like a wrapper! When I get enough I put them in blender, pour out the puree (sometimes with added spices) on non stick dryer sheets and dehydrate. The result is a dried "green salsa" powder very easy to reconstitute. LOVE em. Great idea to pickle them. I will try that.
Like tomatoes, but I do not use fertilizer, I just load my totes up with leaves from the garden and kitchen scraps, and never let the plant completely dry out make sure you keep up with the water, you can also layer with pots as you grow, helps retain water
Hi Robbie & Gary, Interesting facts on Tomatillos. Here in Massachusetts I haven't heard of anyone growing them but you never know. Temps are dropping to just above freezing here in Mass. I brought in my sweet pepper plants I heard I can keep the plants over winter and replant in the spring. They finally bloomed and got green peppers, Yay! I was so surprised at how much NEW DIRT your planting method produces. We have a lot of clover here in MASS which is a real pain to eradicate, the clover overtook the pot when my spaghetti plant died. I had to throw the pot of soil away, nasty plant to have in a veggie garden. I went thru the other pots of dirt and will add them to a pile for next year. NONE of my Squash or Zucchini plants produced female flowers. I'll try cucumbers again next year but will start them earlier in doors. I ended up doing a replanting of all of the above plants. Now my cherry tomatoes on the other hand are still outside and producing fruit and blossoms. Yay!!
It may be too damp(?), I would try them with good drainage soil, in FULL SUN, and still water daily, in a tote or pot. Hopefully it will stay warm enough for them to develop, so they can grow flowers and have them set to fruit.
Your showing more than one... I have 20 in a bed that all came up in my compost .. it is June and my tomatillos are covered with very large fruits.. Nor calif area.. Lots of salsa soon to be canned.
Last year my plants did not make it. This year I have two plants in a tote and they are loaded. My dog has noticed them though and has been harvesting some for herself. Grrr.....
My tomatilloes had flowers and set the little husks, but the husks are all empty. There's not any fruit in any of them. I guess they needed more water. We had a frost last night and one coming again tonight. I'll have to try again next year. Sigh. Green tomato Salsa Verde isn't the same as Salsa Verde made with tomatilloes.

Thx for recipe ! Appreciate when people take the time to do so!😊
Tomatillos take a while before they produce that fruit...I think it's the same everywhere. Another good lesson, Robbie.👍
Thank you for your experienced gardening tips! Love your channel n content. 💝✨🌎✨💝

You can buy some seeds from Walmart Lowe’s Home Depot, and once you start some you will have all the seeds you want for years to come ❤️
do they taste like tomatos

Poor Gary ! LOL . Thanks for the information on Tomatillos .
LOL, thanks!
I currently have 2 containers loaded of tomatillo’s. I made salsa verde last week from a small batch…. Delicious. Thanks Robbie 💙
Wonderful 😊❤️

Yep, they sit there then they flower and then all of a sudden they start to grow their fruit so cool. So glad you got some 😊
So beautiful!
Thanks!
Thank you so much for the ‘super thanks’, it’s so greatly appreciate, again thank you so much!

Hi Robbie mine was in a pot and quit producing 😔 does it need fertilizer? Thank for the tips. 👍👩🌾👍 I love cooking chili verde with it 😋😋😋

Hard to go wrong with cherry tomatoes! 🙂
Hi can you please advise the Kimchi brand that has that cool pressure lid?
I have tried growing these in central Fl but have had no luck. They do fine for a while then suddenly die
I had the same experience in South Florida!
It may be too damp(?), I would try them with good drainage soil, in FULL SUN, and still water daily, in a tote or pot. Hopefully it will stay warm enough for them to develop, so they can grow flowers and have them set to fruit.
@@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy I'll try again next spring! 🌿
What kind of kimchi jar is that
Are you familiar with Terrain Theory? That would help with the horn worms.
I am, but how do you think it would help with worms?
Your showing more than one... I have 20 in a bed that all came up in my compost .. it is June and my tomatillos are covered with very large fruits.. Nor calif area.. Lots of salsa soon to be canned.
What do they taste like? Are they just like a tomato 🍅 I don’t think I have ever had one or even seen one at a shop 🤔
If you smell the leaves you’ll notice they smell like like the main note in salsa verde (green salsa), that’s their primary flavor!
What kind of kimchi has the container inside?😊
It had a mix of different vegetables in it and I got it from Aldi‘s
Have you heard of celular concrete you can build raised beds with it and it's lighter than regular concrete
Have not heard of that, thanks
Last year my plants did not make it. This year I have two plants in a tote and they are loaded. My dog has noticed them though and has been harvesting some for herself. Grrr.....
Cool! Hope you get most of them

Oh yes try again and keep them well watered.
Squirrels, they ate all my fruits, ate through the nylon mesh, took them all, I had 14 varieties of heirlooms. All wiped out by squirrels.
Here tulle works best for me, nylon bird netting does not. You can try tulle and it they bother it, soak or spray the tulle with vinegar
Sympathy! That's so frustrating! Better luck next year!
