This was one of the best interviews yet for me ❤ love Tim and Renee and this crossover was amazing. I love that they answered even the questions that might be TMI but certainly came to my mind 😂😂😂👍👍👍
I'm enjoying how much Abby and Matt's comfort zones are getting challenged and horizons broadened by recent guests. They've achieved so much of the text book adulting so young; it'll be awesome to see what taste for adventure they get after meeting these different people!
I'm thoroughly enjoying it. That are the cutest! 😂 I follow these hikers. Its fun watching their comfort zone being pushed too. In such a friendly interview way.
I loved seeing Renee and Tim on this channel. I am surprised that the focus was exclusively on thru-hiking and how they met. Renee just accomplished a Fastest Known Time for solo female on the Oregon section of the PCT. I was so disappointed that we didn't hear more about this amazing accomplishment and what it was like for her. They also trail race. I would love to hear more about these other dimensions of their lives.
I know! Renee has such an incredible story, but the podcast is limited by time! We talked about her incredible accomplishment right when the cameras turned off and I was like “CRAP.” That would have been amazing for the episode 😅😂
"like do you remember like? In Oregon like? In literally California...literally on the northwest super interesting....we were like, like whatever, so interesting....please let Abby try hosting
Yup. They need another interview just for Renee. That's ok I'll wait for it! Sucks that for being an engineer she got a "cool" and was asked if they want kids. She can do ANYTHING and that's what she is asked. She/they can do whatever they want! The world is their oyster. (Female childfree engineer here)
@@UnplannedPodcastthis episode was amazing! Of course you can’t catch every cool thing they’ve ever done on there. I love that y’all stay true to who you are on these podcasts and don’t try and change based on who is on there! Great job!
Constructive Criticism: I don’t mind Matts style of interview, asking simple questions. But I don’t think it was transferable in this case. This is a couple that live such a unique lifestyle. And a deeper dive into that would have been nice. There was a lot of questions on irrelevant things that were more about Matts curiosity. I’d suggest you get someone in house that can help you research the guests, and develop questions to supplement what you have. It could be a good balance.
100% agree. I found myself cringing at almost every question because it was just very unprepared. “What does a glacier even look like” for real? Such surface level, unimportant questions that you could ask almost anybody. So many leading questions, too.
I don't think that's be soon bad idea, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it now. Most people probably haven't seen a glacier, and it's genuine conversation and nice to watch something not scripted when so many things are now. It maybe just not your preferred style
100% agree, the stories were fun, but I was hoping for more background on how they got here. It was just "yup we quit our jobs... so tell me about not showering and making woopie on the trail" haha
Yeah, I agree, I was just about to comment this as well. Feel like this interview didn’t delve into them the right way. They’re an amazing couple I’d love to just ask a bunch of questions myself, mainly about hiking technique
Renee & Tim are so cool. Met them in Canada from Glacier Natl park. We had camper van. I saw them in a small store. They had coffee in their basket. I said. Put that away. I have Starbucks packets great for hiking. I asked questions about shoes. They made a huge impact on me. Brilliant people
Same, I can see why I've never watched it though 😂some of their questions are ridiculous. Such wasted opportunities to get some really great insight into what it takes to do the stuff they do
So excited for this! Just finished my hike with my partner from Mexico to Canada on the PCT a month ago now! Was the best thing I have ever done and wouldn’t have been able to finish if it wasn’t for the videos from Tim and Renee and being able to listen to the unplanned podcast while I hiked! 😍
THANK YOU for having Renee and Tim on your podcast! I’ve been following them for 2 years and have LOVED watching and following their journey! I’ve actually learned a lot from them especially on dehydrated food and how they make their own to take on their hikes! 🤩
My husband and I travelled to Colorado from the UK when we retired from teaching two years ago (aged 57). We thru-hiked the 482 mile Colorado Trail (which is concurrent with the CDT for 235 miles). Our story is documented on ‘Hunt on the Trails’ if it’s of interest to anyone. We identify with so much in this podcast - it was an unforgettable month and put so much of life in perspective. A great experience.
I can not believe they walk from Mexico all the way to Canada that’s absolutely insane. I can never walk that distance from a different country. I’m glad they did it
I love both of these couples and I was so excited to see Tim and Renee on a podcast because they seem so interesting beyond what they post. I really would love to know more about their careers and how that plays into their adventures and hikes and obviously they’re both very intelligent and when you spend a lot of time hiking, you’re obviously thinking about a lot of things. They seem like they would be great at solving big problems in the world and I thought, that might come up when they talked about Renee and solar panels. Hopefully that brings about a conversation.
i adore renee and tim!!! i’ve also wondered about some of the silly questions matt asked. as others have said i am only really disappointed that you guys didn’t know renee just beat a world record!! i think you could maybe do a tiny bit more research about guests on what their recent achievements are! ❤
1:31:00 right before Matt brought up the whole thing of you find what you’re looking for (the color trick he did). I LOVED that. If you look for the positive in things, it’ll help so much.
Matt, I made the same realization when I first watched their videos. Ohhhh, Minute rice is dehydrated rice and that’s why it is so fast, because you just have to rehydrate it!!
I have LOVED all of your recent guests, Matt and Abby. They are all (from the Duggars to Eamon and Bec to Renee and Tim) some of my favorite influencers! Amazing job!! Can’t wait to see who you guys have on the pod next!
I love you Matt and Abby! I enjoy every single podcast you put out and love every guest You have. For some reason the chemistry and the questions not sure but something about the energy in this one was off. No hate though I love you guys!!!!
Oh my goodness!! I never saw this one coming! This brought me back to when I thru hiked the Appalachian Trail with my older brother at the age of 16. Love Tim and Renee!! ❤❤❤❤
Love this, I grew up in the PNW and the Columbia River is absolutely gorgeous! I'd say this is a bucket list, but the 20+ days without showering is the scariest part 😂
Around the 56 minute marker they start talking about hitch hiking for rides. I'll say it is quite common for people here in Colorado to hitch hike in the mountains. Many times in the summer, you'll get the river rafters/tubers, and in the winter, you get skiers/snowboarders needing rides back up the mountain. Once in a while, you'll get the hiker hitch-hikers out in the beautiful colorado rocky mountains ⛰️
Tim and Renee - yes someone may have figured out the freeze dried coffee thing, but they don't have your platform to advertise! You could still do it even if it's already been done because advertising would be seamless with a large number of people already following you!
I live in Alberta and saw this couple a ton I had no idea they were coming to Alberta I just heard them say Canada. I love this tho. Hiking is amazing but I legit died doing a 28km hike. By the time I saw the car I was convincing myself to take each step and reaching for the car like it was the light at the end of the tunnel. I know with training it’s easier but holy crap they are AMAZING.
I’ve watched Renee and Tim for awhile now and I find them so inspiring and cool. I will probably not ever hike the continental divide but I do get inspired to get up and out of the house. Not just that I love watching their events. The only thing I’d change is longer videos but also I get it. It’s probably very time consuming to do what their short vids. Either way I’m happy subscriber! PS I love you guys too! 🤟🏽😘
@Vrsenese1095I noticed too, they’d answer a yes or no & then silence & sometimes it was hard for them to elaborate or know to elaborate after a yes or no. Either way, I’ve followed them & happy they had this collab
Love this podcast. It's cool to see this side of Tim and Renee! Learned a lot of interesting things, like them being Naked and Free 😂 Matt is so funny !
Renee has talked about it in their tiktoks and shorts, menstrual cup can hold blood for 8+ hours, dump the blood away from trails in holes It's not that deep tbh
That is my go-to Culver's hack also. With two teenage boys it help says money. Plus I have been doing it for years so I had a huge stash built up of ice cream and tokens for when the oldest started driving last year. He loves it!
@ sorry if my comment was rude, I didn't mean for it to be. This interview is so good. I love the fact they are not hikers. It make the questions so much better
I have been following Tim and Renae for sometime now and this interview gave a peek into their personalities. Enjoyed it!

Omg so excited for this interview
"Hej, Renee's laughing, she thinks I'm funny"😂😂
This is a great one! I adore all 4 of you!
Love you guys! Inspired, so much respect ❤
