Wow, what a looker! Well done for getting the loaner. Hopefully it will lead to Orbea finally lending you a X20. Looking forward to seeing you take it over some of your Catalonia super climbs.
What a fantastic and impressive looking bike, beautifully engineered. I'm sure that you will be having some brilliant adventures on it at speed. Have a wonderful weekend
Yako that’s one corka of a pushbike don’t start getting overly excited about high speed disents !! May aswell talk to myself ?!!! Will be looking forward to the adventures you’ll take us on, sorry you had a bad hair day should have left well alone, ha ha. take care cheers jim..
Remarkable video,BH sent me the same bike. But on the basis I never make a video. I love the colour it matches your eyes. I think you will enjoy this one (again) Thanks for the video
Nice new to you bike Mr. Yako! I want to know more about your pool that we saw at the beginning of the video. You are in shorts! We just finished 5days without power in 17 degrees F, with 3 inches of, then came the freezing rain. No outdoor rides here in Portland, Oregon for some time. Risky sex with a stranger in a hotel lift? Well played lad!
I made the pool, Jeff. It’s not…looking it’s best right now! I’ve been watching the weather in the US, Sweden and now the UK with concern…but here… Tomorrow is forecast 7c max and rain, and it will freeze overnight. Last 2 days? 21c/70f, glorious sunshine!
Thats some bike. If you could compare the noise from the motor with the rear wheel drive Mahle that would be good. If it is the advertised weight with that size battery thats a big plus. Could you do a side by side comparison with your Orbea to how the handlebars sit, I'm getting on a bit and not as bendy as before. Love the channel, i can see what my retirement money is going on🎉
They have definitely done well with the weight - tomorrow’s vid has me out on a pan-flat group ride trying to keep up with a couple of strong (34-37kmh) riders so way over the cut-off and it did really well. The motor is quieter than my older X35 Gain, but I think I really need the new Gain to compare like-for-like. The request is in, hopefully I’ll have it soon. The geometry is definitely more racy than my Gain, bars sit far lower, but I’ve been surprised that I find it at least as comfortable and my carpal tunnel/numb hands takes longer to set in on the BH, which is a conundrum. No back or neck pain either, which I expected. Sorry that doesn’t fit in with the norm!
@@yakoridesagain I had my carpal tunnel treated a year ago in one hand, the othe one is playing up now. I've ridden the Scott Addict eRide and managed over 135 km in the onboard battery. Really nice riding position
I did look into this many months ago Paul but I seem to remember my little Garmin doesn’t record the necessary metrics. I would like to do this though so I will have another look. It does need to be done properly though; I’ve chuckled at some vids where the rider is crawling uphill and the stats read “power 5w, speed 62kmh”!
Beautiful machine. Does BH make their own motors? I like a mid motor as on my LOOK with the Fazua motor. Fortunately here in the US we get to enjoy a 20MPH motor and like the BH system after 20 there is still some assist and it is mostly gone after 23-24.
It’s Desert Dan! BH do indeed make their own motor, which is impressive for a comparatively small company. For it to be as small, light and powerful make it doubly so. Not seen a vid from you my friend since Tony’s VW…hope you are well?
Hi Kevin - weirdly, today, I asked the same question of BH…it looks as though this is a quieter motor with bigger range that the BH exMag2 of the Core…which was already the market leader in e-road bikes. I love how a comparatively small Spanish company have stolen a march on their big rivals! Fingers crossed I will get a ride on the new motor to give a review…it looks REALLY exciting!
@@kevinkirby3158 Apologies, Kevin I mis-read your original post. The ‘22 Core would definitely have the exMag2, as the BHZ by Seg is brand new. As with all mid-motors, the noise of the exMag2 is noticeable, but quieter than the two Shimano mid-motors that I’ve ridden. If you take a look at the first ride vid I did of the iAerolight, and the hub vs mid motor vid, I discuss the motor noise. I actually like it - it’s a comforting whirr, rather than a normal electric motor noise. I REALLY liked the iAerolight, if there was any doubt! Ask away if you have any other questions.
Hi yes I have looked at the tq motor but the bmc is still £6000 and I can get the new gain with di2 105 for £4700 so I would go for that most probably but still expensive aren’t they!
Very. Mid motors normally have more oomph at lower speeds on steep climbs though, so have a good think before plumping for one. Hoping the X20 review will be done soon to help.
Very nicely engineered and good looking bike. However, there's always a however, I just looked up the prices. The iaerolight 1.8 is £9k in the UK, the equivalent Gain, M20i is 'just' £7k. That is a big difference, would be good to know if it's worth it? Apart from the beautiful paint job, I'm not sure the BH is any better looking than the Orbea - that should provoke some hate mail... For me one of the big issues with modern bikes is the lack of handlebar height adjustment. The BH looks no different; the fully integrated bars make changing that much more difficult. At least on the Gain, it's relatively easy to change the bars for some like these: ua-cam.com/video/XP2QH62zlBc/v-deo.htmlsi=bA_HSX5jmpQ7lNN-
I do wonder if BH are having to recoup some of their R&D costs, Terry. The mid motor is their own design, and they’ve done well cramming 65Nm into such a small, light and unobtrusive frame. BH do do another e-road bike which is cheaper with the same motor but not ‘aero’, so those features/development would have incurred costs too. I read that BH brought out the iAerolight as their analogue Aerolight was outselling their less aero analogue road bike so thought it was an obvious direction to take. I’m hoping Orbea will come up with a ‘24 X20 Gain as promised soon, so I can do real head-to-head tests…, but they will have different strengths, with hub vs mid motors as well as price.
Lovely bike But it’s £9,000 It should be good But it’s twice the price of the gain My BMC was £6000 with a TQ motor which is totally silent 50nm 350 watt battery mid drive Against the x35 D50 and x20 Scott the BMC TQ is twice as powerful I love that BH bike you have but at £9k I could not justify the purchase Just my thoughts Are you sure it’s 11.6kg
In it’s defence, it is a different bike, more aero, more powerful, similar weight, more race geometry than the Gain. Without a doubt more expensive, but 9k RRP vs 7.4k RRP for similar spec M20i Gain (still a LOT!, but prices are on the way down - that same Gain I found this morning for €6k, last years model but identical. I imagine the same will be true for the BH next year). I’d love to try a TQ motor…I’ll have to ask BMC for a ride! The X20 Gain will hopefully arrive soon. I’m intrigued with how it fares, the motor is rated as 55Nn, 350Wh battery… I took the 11.6kg from the BH website, but ‘mine’ is noticeably lighter than my Gain…
The hills here in NE Scotland need some help occasionally so my knees survive a few more years into retirement. Good range and light weight. I've seen some Spanish videos on the BH core racer with a 510 Ah battery. With the range extender it can get 200km plus. The Specialised Creo I hired in Gran Canaria was a nice bike but it was heavier than I thought. Keep up the videos 😊
Well the new Gain with 55Nm and 350Wh battery seems an obvious contender as it is lighter than the BH and is cutting edge when it comes to how natural the assist feels. I think many of these latest generation of bikes are suffering from the global parts availability problem but I’m in an X20 Gain FB group and they are now appearing. I SHOULD be reviewing one very soon. I’ve just asked BMC for a Roadmachine AMP to test too - but didn’t you say you’ve tested one of these? If you are a fairly strong rider, ie are currently managing on your own power, I think you could be satisfied with the lightest-of all older carbon M20 Gains. With the X20 model out these will be on massive discounts new- or you could buy one secondhand just to see how one feels…
@@yakoridesagain I tried the Specialised Creo. The BMC is on the list as well to look at. With the Mahle X20 how does the torque sensor at the crank help on steep hills where your cadence drops and with the X35 the assist drops significantly. You were going to do a multi day trip on the new X20. Is that still on the cards?🚲
The Gain is supposed to be with me ‘in the new year’. I’ve nudged Orbea as a head-to-head with the BH would be interesting. From other X20 users though the extra torque is very noticeable (which is the main thing I wanted to test). Try joining the Facebook group Orbea X20 Owners Club and ask what they think. Nice group.
In a later vid George I’ll do a visual side by side comparison with the Burgos BH race bike (images only, sadly). They are close to identical from the drive side.
Wow, what a looker! Well done for getting the loaner. Hopefully it will lead to Orbea finally lending you a X20. Looking forward to seeing you take it over some of your Catalonia super climbs.
