    The Swedish dub is legendary and very famous here. All the names stayed as Japan

      Yeah over the years I've seen that you guys loved this show maybe more than Japan itself :D They did there best to keep your version inline with the original, unlike the other version like the UK one we got, but either way the show remained good. It really needs a re-release but we are probably at the mercy of fansubs before anything official will ever happen.

      Yes you are right :) some more from sweden: They where (as far as I know) only sold in vhs at BP (back in the day gasstations), i never got to see the ending as a child but i remember a friend finding the DVD to buy online somewhere in the early 2000's. So satisfying to get an end to one of my favourite shows as a kid growing up in the early 90's.

      In Finland we had six VHS tapes with finnish dub. Nowdays I've learned there are seven tapes. The number seven VHS tape is very rare and pricy (200-600 €). In the finnish dubbing, the names of the cyborgs are Kokko, Haka and Korkki.
      Some finnish dude has done a great dance mix of the music: ua-cam.com/video/5fCXEXJsMyg/v-deo.html
      I would love to see the full series with original voices and english subtitles. DVD or Bluray release, please.

      @@marclarsson1672 No, they could also be rented at video rental stores, but it was unique that they were sold at BP, which made them famous.

    Hello! I just found your channel.
    Always fun when someone draws attention to this little anime gem of a series.
    Okay, a little more about Starzinger in Sweden.
    It was released on 6 vhs rental cassettes with 4 episodes each. The first cassette started with episode 5 (the one with the crystal monster you use in the video) and continued to episode 23.
    The last cassette makes a jump to the last 4 episodes of the second part (episodes 70-73) and the end of the series.
    It is best known for having been sold in BP gas stations where they were among the first videos that could be bought to take home.
    The series always used the intro for the second part of the series (season 2) as the intro for the entire series, which led to some confusion when the series had a Roman 2 (II) in the name.

      Hi thanks for watching the video and telling me your story of starzinger. Thats crazy that BP gas stations were the main selling point, I mean gas stations sell a lot of things, but I've never seen a VHS in one, even for the time. You guys at least got the true ending then, even if the episodes are jumping all over the place. About the intro, yes I had heard that about some countries using the 2nd intro which adds more confusion. Starzinger is probably one of the most edited animes of all times, it's almost like every region got their own cut of the same show, but when I think about it, a few anime were changed and chopped up when exported out of Japan. Still in the end the show was great for all of us.

    I bought Sci-Bots 1 from my local video shop in the early 90's. I was obsessed with Transformers and the Sci-Bots 1 video had pictures of Optimus Prime & Galvatron on the back for some reason and thats what made me buy it thinking it was something oto do with Transformers haha

    • @newtypepunk9967
      @newtypepunk9967  8 місяців тому +1

      LOL wow that is wild and obviously false advertising, I can only think maybe they were selling Transformers VHS for a short time, back then you could get away with a lot of things. I don't blame you for buying it though, any Transformer fan would have done the same thing, at least Sci-bots ended up being good in its own right.

    We got the whole series in english in america, but the rarity of the DVD set is mental. Hopefully it's properly subtitled one day.

      Hey Kenny. Oh you did, that's cool. You're right about that DVD, I tried to track it down, but it's impossible to find, it's perhaps rarer than finding the VHS, which again are hard to come by. Yeah I hope it's fully subbed one day too.

      Just curious, but where did you see a complete English version of Starzinger?? I'm only aware of the ~25-episode Force Five version (that didn't cover the conclusion of the original show) and the William Winckler "movie collection" (which featured some horrific English dubbing, but at least featured the end of the story).

      @@kennylauderdale_en That sounds right. Yeah, the Winckler dubs are hilariously bad (on purpose), but at least we get to see the end of the show. I know Skaro Hunting Society was fansubbing the show, but I don't think they've dropped a new episode since last year. :/

    In South Africa, there was a Sotho/Tswana language version. You would need to open a certain radio station to hear the English version that would syncronise with the TV one.... the main guy would pull out his stick and shout "ayirobe"...... I loved it as a kid.

    • @newtypepunk9967
      @newtypepunk9967  Рік тому +1

      Wow that is crazy, I've never heard of such a process, syncing up a TV show and radio broadcast at the same time, that is actually very clever. Was the show called Starzinger there too or something else? What does ayirobe mean? Still this show really is giving me more info on how it was shown across the world, thanks for watching and telling me your story, this show really reached a lot of people in the world to a positive effect too.

    One interesting and weird fact about the Swedish version is that they skipped the first three (or four, I don't remember exactly) episodes of the series, so we never got to see how they started their journey. I remember reading an interview with the Swedish publisher Christer Hagström years ago where he was asked why he did this, but unfortunately he couldn't remember his reasoning.
    Another weird fact is that they used the intro for Starzinger II for the whole series, which I really don't mind, because it's the intro that slaps the most anyway. Maybe Christer felt the same way. :) Or more realistically, maybe there was some rights issue. Why else would they cut and paste the intro to Starzinger II into episodes that had a totally different intro originally?

    • @newtypepunk9967
      @newtypepunk9967  Рік тому

      I think I did read about the 2nd opening being used in different regions, so I guess Sweden was one. It is very likely it was used because it was more catchy. Openings after all would draw new viewers in and are often better animations than the actual shows themselves. Missing the first few episodes also seems strange, it could have just been on honest mistake who knows. This show throws up a whole lot of oddities, which is hard to track because of the time frame and the amount of places it was available.

    I'm from Denmark, and I remember borrowing a VHS tape from a class mate in the early 90s with Starzinger. I don't think it was that known, neither was Ultraman, but it was quite popular with us boys in class for a very very brief time. But, everything was in the shadows of Silver Fang and I get a sense that it was almost nationwide. Every kids
    - boy or girl - seemed to know of Silver Fang and had rented or owned a copy of Silver Fang. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, didn't know it went by other names.

    To the best of my knowledge, the show was never broadcast in the UK, but the toys sold there and were quite popular. I had all three of the vehicles with their accompanying pilots.
    Has never occurred to me before, but I guess "Star Fleet" (aka "X Bomber"/"Ekkusu Bonbā") has a fairly similar trio of heroes, with John Lee in the Piggsy/Don Hakka/Porkos role, and I guess Lamia/F-01 in the other Aurora/Tripitaka role.

    • @newtypepunk9967
      @newtypepunk9967  Місяць тому

      Yeah that was my memory too, I only ever saw it on VHS. I never came across any of the toys either, maybe it was limited, because if I ever saw Xbomber etc you'd best believe I'd make that my birthday present lol. Well yeah you can link the heroes to many other things, since a lot shows use the Chinese monkey king story as a baseline, because it just works well.

To put it simple, the video is not even being put infront of people, even people that are subbed to me won't see this till maybe 6 months later if at all, it sucks but that's how it is.
