What a great place to live....runway in your back yard and all that open space. Thanks for the tutorial. I'm getting ready to do waypoints and this was a big help.
Not just for the navigation specifically, but there are some settings for limiting bank angle, how strong the Vector will try to turn, etc. I had some of that dialed in better before I wiped the Vector a while back. I need to try to tame it down a bit again, it is a little rough on the turns right now.
You know your Eagle Tree program well.Excellently done!. Do you usually follow the same familiar flight path, and fly at certain times of the day? Also, seeing you travelled total of 8 miles or so and 17 minutes of fly time what is your usual flight time and distance?
Awesome flight. I know your running Eagle Tree Vector, and Would love to know your TX/ RX setup (UHF brand) and VTx setup. Are you running Eagle Eyes, or antenna tracker? I didn't see one on the ground. Again very good video and flight. I look forward to more.
I use Dragonlink for my UHF radio, it's always been rock solid. I use the Eagle Eyes, but don't have a tracker. All it's doing right now is switching two receivers for diversity and splitting my video out to different screens/recorders etc. Occasionally I used to plug it into a computer for telemetry and a live map but I don't bother with that anymore, haven't done that in a long time.
Almost forgot, vTX... I use 1280/1258MHz gear, I have a 1500mW transmitter in the Skyhunter but that's overkill. I use 400 and 800 in everything else, some 200mW. I've been a few miles on 200mW, and 10+ on 800.
Hey man. I'm currently setting up my own vector. I'm contemplating adding in the temp sensor to monitor the ESC. I was wondering, do you have this added in and is that the reading in the bottom left of your OSD? If you are using it, I was wondering how useful/accurate you find it? Thanks :)
I don't have the add on temp. sensor, can't say how well it does or doesn't work. That reading on my OSD is the ambient temperature that's built in, I believe that sensor is in the GPS module but I could be wrong. It seems like I read that somewhere in the manual though.
Hi mate thanks for doing this tutorial, very helpful. I was wondering if you could use the waypoint mode to perform a hands free launch, a sort of auto launch, enable the waypoint mode throttle up and launch, would this then climb to waypoint A autonomously then carry on with the rest of the waypoint mission? Thanks in advance
Just when I ordered vector! Awesome! Say, do you own a micro vector? Any thoughts on it for fixed wing? I am worried about logging, it has 1/4 of original vector memory. What do you log and at what rate? Thanks!
I dont have a micro, I know there are some differences in them, but I don't remember all the details. As long as it has everything you need I'm sure if would be just fine. I think the micro even has a faster/more powerful CPU than the big one, for better handling the micro quad stuff.
@bonafidepirate, Excellent video for vector archive. this version 12.6 is beta. Seems to work fine. In all your aircrafts the antennas are in the wing. You have noticed better signal than antennas in fuselage? I am undecided about my mini talon antennas.
I've always used the Beta versions and not ran into any issues yet, although they always warn you that it's had limited testing... lol I believe they have a select group of people that test firmware before it's released as Beta to the public so any major problems will likely surface then. There's always that chance though. I usually run the antennas in the wings just for extra separation, and so the fuselage doesn't block them on the way out or back in. With the video antenna on the tail for example, you may have great video on the way out, but when you turn back home the motor, battery, etc. can get between the antenna and your receiver and block the signal somewhat. On some planes, like the mini talon, having a big UHF antenna on one wing and relatively smaller video antenna on the other will cause some drag. I've had to use a bit of trim to counter it on that one. I've never noticed it on the Skywalker, Skyhunter, or my flying wings though. I've seen people put the video antenna in the nose of the mini talon and UHF one at the tail without issue.
Great video, vector done all that was asked 👍, did you ever have problems with your plane not steering straight towards your waypoints? On my skywalker x8 it has issues with its heading towards a waypoint sort of over rolls pass it's waypoint heading, then again the other way ? It's like it zig zags to its waypoints. Did you have any on these issues? Again great video and tutorial keep it up
I haven't had that issue personally. I would suggest playing with some of the different gains. I don't recall what they are right now without reading the manual, but I know there's some settings in there to control how strongly the Vector tries to hold a heading or altitude, how tight it turns, etc. Read up on that stuff and something might stand out. Maybe try raising your cruise throttle a bit too, sometimes a plane will have a hard time holding a heading if it's on the edge of a stall, and will tend to wander back and forth like that. Just some ideas!
Thanks I didn't think of air speed but will try increasing the gains, hope to get out today and give it a go, still a little bit windy here in Perth, thanks for your reply
They are on the side "paddles" on my radio, I control them manually. On some of my planes where I don't use the rudder a lot (or have one at all) I like to have the pan on the rudder stick instead.
Hi, please tel me how is possible to setup the waypoint map so that during the flying, the map is moving, turning with our model ? Because my waypoint map still fix, as in your previous video.
Nice Demo mate, very nice...Looks like you will be able to spend more time doing some specific manual filming during the journey...The Pilot has become Cameraman...lol.....I assume if you were to disable signal loss RTH, you could do a mission all at say 50 feet... Terrain follow?..or even less and let the AP do it all...?...Video might get a bit flaky though....Scary...:)
I *think* the Vector will always return home when there's no signal. That said, if you were to set the R/C system's failsafe not to trigger RTH, but keep it in waypoint mode instead, the Vector wouldn't know the difference... I don't know if I'd want to try it though... lol
Tell you what would be cool, set one plane up on Way Points and follow it yourself with another plane!!! Assuming you have a spare radio that is. Probably not in your case! But I'm on 2.4 & 5.8 and have a spare radio. I may have to try that out myself, now you've shown me how??? Cheers. lol
No, and no... lol Not specifically at least. I usually launch in 2D stabilized mode with some up trim on the elevator so I get a nice smooth climb out. It works well. I usually land in 2D as well, as 2DH tends to fight small corrections when landing. There's nothing specific built in as far as launching and landing though.
Hi know this is long time since you being using eagle tree vector. But notice they not using google maps as I cant get way points on it anymore any chance of any help please
Hi Pete! Yeah unfortunately some things are "broken" with the Vector software now that their API key for Google has expired. User "davenglish" on RCGroups has posted a work around for making a mission file. It's the only way I know of right now to get it going. www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=49036917&postcount=13987
I like your informative video. Bad for me that I have a Rvosd 5.1. Just recently configurated. How can I enter waypoint? manually ? its complicated. Anyway Thankyou !!!
The RVOSD can fly waypoints too, I've done it once in the past. I honestly don't remember much detail though about setting it up... lol I know the built in method was rather cumbersome, entering coordinates in the menus. There's a 3rd party software that can do it much easier though. I don't remember who wrote it or the name, but I'll see if I can dig it up in a bit...
Found it, there's a thread on the RVOSD forum here with links to the software, and a bunch of info. You can change settings and upload waypoints over USB - forum.rangevideo.com/index.php?threads/rvosd-configurator-for-5-07-firmware.2500/
Not really. You can have the plane "land", but it's more of a controlled crash into your home waypoint... lol Quads can land at home just fine, I've done it a number of times when I have a Vector on a 450 size quad.
bonafidepirate can you send me an email too? I'm cwleveck at Hotmail. I've been using eagletree for MANY years thinking about vector for a very specific reason/application and would appreciate your opinion on whether or not vector is going to get the job done.

You are my new favorite UA-camr!!! Can't wait to set up waypoints one my Ranger EX. Thanks for the info.
Thanks for the kind words! Good luck with you "mission" lol
Ya man, I was just thinking about a requesting a video on this from you. Great addition to you vector videos. Thanks
Is there a way to soften up the nav p gain and take out some over correct in the banks from point to point?
Smooth dialed in landing. Great flight!

Thanks for video. Would you mind sharing your max angle settings etc. for the Sky Hunter?
Awesome tutorial vid Keith and awesome proof flight!
Thanks!
You're very welcome sir and thanks for all you do for the FPV community! I'm going to send you a PM on RCGroups in reference to a "Thank you" video.

Looks so easy I should be able to do it?
just curious in the flight what made the Vector start the waypoint mission. was it just switching it to 2DH?
No, you set one of the flight modes to "Waypoint", and switch to that flight mode. It will then start navigation through the mission you have set up.
@@bonafidepirate ah ok much thanks
Thanks for the video, I wish I could give it two thumbs up 👍🏻👍🏻LOL
Great tut helped me lots thankyou

thank you for this video!!!
What are you using for rc control??!! I wanna build exactly what you have lol I need a longe range rig in my life
I use a FrSky Taranis Plus with a Dragonlink V3 UHF system. Highly recommend both!
Hi, please tel me how is possible to setup the waypoint map so that during the flying, the map is moving, turning with our model ?
Because my waypoint map still fix, as in your previous video.
In the Vector software, on the OSD setup page, there's an option for "radar" centered on home or model, change that setting.
OK, thank very much Bonafidepirate.
I like your videos.

It will go into RTH this has been confirmed by Eagletree support.
Thanks again for a great video bondafidepirate ! :)
Too bad the google maps API changed, leaving the vector broken for mapping missions. Anyone know if a workaround?
Does the vector have an assistant launch or auto launch ? Question 2 does it have an auto land ?
No, and no... lol Not specifically at least. I usually launch in 2D stabilized mode with some up trim on the elevator so I get a nice smooth climb out. It works well. That's just a "safety feature" that's on by default. Check one box and it goes away. ;) @3:31
