Next time you use a wedge, don't drive it right down the center of the log. Start using it from the side. It'll split the log straight down the middle much much easier.
The split in the top of the handle is a good thing. The wedge mushrooms the wood over the metal of the head making sure it doesn't come off. Check out bucking Billy Ray on here. He's been logging most of his life and that's how he does everyone he makes.
Looking for some real deal splitting with this axe/maul this was one of the best videos, good informative section and a versatile test, also with a wedge. I've used Fiskars wedge that also rotates and that splits like a beast. Maybe I'll get one husq maul.
I have the same for 4 years. It's great tool. Hear in Poland price was near fiskars x27 but in my opinion it's better and elegant axe. Good review thanks a lot. Unfortunately husqarna withdraws this product from the offer.
"It should just split..." Famous last words, lol. How has your Husqvarna maul held up to wedge use? No troubles? I just purchased one and am happy with it, although the head on mine isn't as tight as I'd like. Handles on a maul aren't really forever anyway.
+pgb twoofive It's a maul. It has both ends tempered and hardened (the blade and the maul-hammer side). You can drive wedges with it, but as with other harden steel tools, do not hit it with mauls and hammers because it can damage the metal and cause bullet like projectiles.
All For Fun Projects I think they are made by Hultafors, it looks the same as my Hultafors maul. They make a splitting axe also if you want something a bit lighter, it is 1500g in weight but you can't hit a wedge with it, good for lighter timber splitting.
DEXTER941 That very well may be made by Hultafors. A few companies are making similar styles. I find the weight perfect for myself. I will have some more splitting vids of it soon. Just fell a white ash tree.

Keep the knots on the bottom and split around them. It works a lot better that way.

Really cool!
I like that they used two round wedges
they are made by grandsforce brooks great steel good video
They are indeed made by haltaforse very similar design but made by haltaforse
In fact you could confuse it with a wetterlings splitting maul the Grandsforse Brooks is quite different
Plus slam lightwedge closer to the side you'll have way better luck other than that you did a fine job
nice video 👍 wonderful Axe
