I really appreciate your narrative of your new American life.Since my own daughter and son live in NY and NJ,I had visited US several times.I tell people back in India their so called English will be gibberish in US.When I see some so called convent educated boys and girls talk in affected accent I simper to myself.Even today I cannot follow my 15 year old grandson’s slippery guttural accent over phone. My daughter will translate what he says.My another 8 year old grandson from my son is equally incomprehensible.Because I have my son he will translate. As you say just knowing English in India will be absolutely inadequate. But my son who is there after his MS in NYU for the last 14 years sails along without a hitch. My daughter was in LI for 15 years and now in NJ for 9 years. They can manage American accent. When we fly locally the announcer’s English will be understood by my son like who are to board, when the flight leaves, where to keep your luggage (in OH locker or Check in etc).On the whole your speech was good.As a brahmin I could not have taken the pork which I nearly had in a Costco store icecream counter where they kept crab cream looking like butter on the sales counter.!
Thank you Sir.
Sister, you are speaking naturally. There is no cosmetics in your speech. Really good.
Awesome, Everything you are saying is 100% true.
Thanks
You’re being so honest. Very helpful to viewers.
Thank you
glad that u speak good tamil with less english intervention even after living in us over a decade.
nice and candid video thank u.
Thank you
You are very natural madam ..... I loved watching the video . The best part is there is no sprinkling of unnecessary English words in between . I too went through most of what you said . I too studied in Convent , in English medium ,and also considered one of the students with good command over English . But after I landed in US .... the problems I had in understanding what they speak was humongous
Really Good on sharing the true & real-time Experience in this IT World👍💯
Thanks Ganapathy
Working with Asians and Americans - The fact is indisputably true. I worked with a Singapore counterpart and eventually i quit myself out of the job. Americans and Europeans are the best managers to work with. An Asian manager will bug you or ask for an update the next minute whereas an American manager will help out to understand the problem and give his support and also a realistic deadline.
yeah
Hi Pratheeba,
I totally agree with you.My husband used to work in Harrisburg PA.He used to tell the same thing, that you can work very well with Americans than with Asians especially with Indians.
Btw the video and the way you speak is very nice
Thanks Priya
3:20 pork or chicken
First when I came to US , I was not confused at all , all was and is pretty good
4:35 all saying “hi” or “hello” or “good morning “ in US , used to be like that atleast during 1970’s and early 80’s in Chennai itself . In north till now , at the end of conversation people end with “ram ram”. Nowadays all screwed up in Chennai .
6:20 options in coffee or sandwich I never had problem with that also . Since they were sweet and when it took me few minutes to decide I immediately say sorry . Immediate reply from them is “oh no problem , I would also get confused with these lots of options” and a cute chuckle comes from them. Only 3-4 at first visit in US . Later I got used to all sorts of things . But they are very patient and smiling. Only thing when I was new to US that I had problem from 1999 - 2005 or 6 was vegetarian choice and their understanding. After that and till now LOTS OF VEGETARIAN AND VEGANS . WOW!!! IM IN FOOD HEAVEN 😀😀
6:50 new to class and professor lectures. Didn’t have any problem in understanding them. Not that much , till now . Giving answer sheets and confidentiality ... yes that’s very true .
11:06 true about office too. I don’t have any experience with Russians so I don’t know but your experience with Americans in Delaware is good and perfect as you described. You say you are in PA . It’s north do you experience harshness ?
15:17 American boss vs Asian boss
Americans - Work life balance is true. Bosses are very understanding but remember olu adikkalaam mattum nadakkaathu.
They will be patient and understanding to extreme level if anybody doesn’t do work properly . First few times they will warn you if this persists that’s it they will chuck you out . Work ethic is VERY VERY IMPORTANT for them. They do give time for genuine personal reasons and othe occasions as mentioned by her but when it comes to work there is big unsaid rule . For example
- daily one have to update what they did that day in email to the immediate boss
- if you had already planned to take a vacation you should inform your immediate boss as soon as you have booked your ticket for vacation , so that they can arrange some other sub to finish the work
- they will ask you how many days will it take to finish the work ? Once or twice you can suthufy by extending the time - if you know that work takes 3 days but you say 7days or 10 days , at first they will accept it but silently they will analyze you . This is a black mark for you .
On the whole don’t underestimate Americans . They can be extremely good but not stupid in analyzing you .
18:06 Asian boss I agree fully with that.
Mothathula Americans nallavanga. You can see humans here . Don’t misuse their good nature else you are the looser
Thank you for taking the time to reply.
Your experience is really I appreciate first time I watch your video from uk . I also working first time listen British people they talk fast after every day bbc news tv Watch I understand and clear. Your experience is really I agree .
Thanks

You are too Honest!! I have worked in US for couple of years and I have worked in many other non english speaking country. I haven't changed my accent. I dont have difficulty understanding Americans but they have with me.
Yeah it takes them sometime. Thanks Prakash :)
Hi bro
Hi bro.your comments waiting
Dear Pratheepa,
I am a South Indian born and brought up in North India and have by now lived and worked in various parts of tge World. I have spent more than half a century (yes now I am elderly!) in the great country of USA. I am still very proud I am from tge equally great country: India.
Americans value individuality, personal space and decent behavior in public. As children they are taught in school, family and the Church values of treating others respectfully while not compromising self respect.
They give an unknown person one hundred marks out of a hundred with the confidence tgey are basically good abd start subtracting as we do misdeeds or fail common expectations; this places the responsibility of keeping that good impression and faith on the outsider; unlike in some other cultures where one struggles hard to earn mark by mark their whole lifetime to win society's grace!
i agree with your comment madam.
Great Experience, Plus you speak so natural, Fully Involved like Face to face... 22 Minutes ponathe therila...Epdi Camera munnadi ivlo natural uh pesureenga Superb ?
Thanks Mohammed. Everything is practice pa.
Yeah time ponathe theriyal she convey very naturally
Thanks for sharing your experience
I live in UK. From my experience, I think that Americans rarely make an attempt to slow down when they speak to non-native English speakers. But that is not always the case in UK. The well educated ones talk softly, politely and usually slowly. The not-so-educated British (blue collar workers) talk with a strong British accent that would vary from town to town. So I usually have problem understanding when an electrician or plumber comes to my house to do some repair work.
Yes,
My brother lives in US. He too says that Americans treat him better than most of the Indians there...
Hi Priya, yes i agree with him.
I had fun hearing the hilarious narrative of your personal experience
Thank you.
Super super semaya pesuringa mom... 👍 Tamil very good... 🙏👏👏👏👏
I came to New Zealand in 2018 and the kiwi accent is crazy. Answering phone interviews is still my nightmare. I couldn't perform well in interviews because of my fear
It gets better with practice. All the best!!

Ha ha ha good one. The same happened to me when I landed in Belgium 2005. But my course secretaries take care of me to show the city and Indian shops. I stand near by road to cross, but all the cars stop. It was strange and surprise for me.
Nice narration. Thank you
Thank you
Supera pesaninga you was spoke vary well
Superb explanations; it's increased my confidence level
Thank u
Very well said. You are absolutely right!
This is my fourth year in USA, still facing lot of issues like this... especially ordering foods
Hi Gokul, yes the food order is always a problem :(
@Majestic King They call it food order here.
Gacha Tamil 1999 I came oru problem illa. There are lot of options , they are patient what more I need . Moreover , after few experiences I at first decide what I need and then I will stand in line to order . Moreover I also take time in asking whether the soup has vegetarian ingredients including the broth . I’ll ask where it’s made of chicken, beef or fish broth etc. If that person knows he or she will reply perfectly else they respect your options and will call another person to fact check . So no problem O kiddo 😊

Thank you so much 🙂
Akka na vandhu 1 year agudhu neenga Sona athanaium unmai but I am housewife now I will try to speak boldly whether it's right or wrong please give me any idea to speak English in good way I am bold in India but here I am very hesitating to speak
Everyday watch english news. Keep listening to talk shows on radio. Very helpfull to hear the words. Also, native English speakers hardly laugh at others when we speak English. Take this opportunity to speak boldly with them. The one thing that they do not appreciate is when Indians answer them with the 'shake' of head. MUST open our mouths to speak.
All the best.
Romba neat ta clear ra guide pannuriga ka......athu illa ma ellaru comments ku reply pannuriga ellaraiyum kind da nadathuriga... Great and kind heart person ka neega .... brother love from India ❤️💖❤️

your talk is absolutely correct, i met the same problem, i also felt to select coffee very difficult and felt shame in USA airport.
Yeah it happens.
I am a Tamil from Tamil Nadu moved to Bangalore when I was small boy in 1998, Past 9 years I live in Europe, lived studied in Italy and work in Ireland. I have traveled almost 18 centuries in Europe and all the time I traveled alone and perhaps I may be the only Indian in every flight. My brother lives in Germany and I visit him often from Ireland and I was the only Indian in every flight and I never felt any discrimination. In 2015 December it’s so happened my flight was delayed from Rome Fumicino airport to Paris France and a French lady came to me asked me where I was from and I told her I am from Tamil Nadu in South India and she told me she has been in Pondychery and finally we got our boarding and after having landed in Paris she put me in one of the restaurants paying for me and next Day morning her husband came to pick me and helped me to find my train from Paris to montbord 350 kilometers away from Paris and from that day onwards we become close friends. After three weeks I returned from montbord to Paris and this time she came to the same restaurant where I stayed previously and dropped me at the airport. Foreigners are so kind, helping and generous. So don’t be disappointed when you travel outside India and they are so lovely, kind and gentle to help you.
Thanks Sam. That's a nice experience. Yes they are good.
Pratheeba Bala welcome Pratheeba Bala.
I work in southern part of south India and here it doesn't matter if you have completed your work or not. They will make you stay beyond your working hours. Deliberately.
