since I am disabled, I find this technology quite interesting.
Londoe Black
Have you seen the progress made in stem cell research? Enabling people to walk again by repairing the spinal cord. Still a few years off from commercial availability, but it looks quite promising.
@@dovstruzer3610 Google/Alphabet also has qualms about military contracts and sold Boston Dynamics to the Japanese company SoftBank Group in 2017.
Just saying.
I thought the most interesting part was at 16:45 where he says, "However, even in severe cases there are still weak electrical signals that do make it through."
I can't help but wonder if a even a simple biofeedback device could help strengthen those weak, remaining signals. Perhaps 4 sensors, one each for upper/lower and left/right leg muscles to start.
@@DanaGould0 It would exist, but only in Japan. Japan doesn't normally export its fascinating technology to America, and for obvious reasons.
Londoe Black, if you live in US, visit Brooks Cybernic Treatment Center in Jacksonville, Florida, where you can try this robot suits of this company.
Japan never fails to impress whenever it's featured on the Click show.
@@nom6758 Lol
To me, they're just lame
@@PrinceJes so what did you expect? a transformers robot?
That robot backpack was hilarious and absolutely awesome. I want to live in a world with more of this.
Just learn robotics on ur own, if ur rich enough you would have the time to do whatever u want, that’s why capitalists pay scientists
Using these arms, a guy in Japan can punch someone in the USA without leaving the comfort of his office. This was always the end goal of the internet.
Lol
😂
so fixated in war and its outcome
@@giampaolomannucci8281
You see War, I see an infinite amount of hand jobs from the lady.. 🙄👌
@@myman8336 or a trap
21:44 This is a signboard translation. "Robots do not deprive human beings. That will increase the place where humans are active."
7:50. This will be used to make BMW drivers use their turn signals.
But wouldn't that mean they had the intention to use them in the first place? :D
@@robinaretz6597 when it learns to detect the intent to turn, or change lanes, that's when it will be able to signal for them.
Turn signals? what are those? had my BMW 5 years now. Turn signal sounds familiar, like something I studied for my driving test back in the 90. But nothing I need in the real world.
I didn't think i would end up using my spare time to watch bbc click. 😅
it is a brilliant program, BBC sucks in general but click is more than worth half hour a week
Japan is just literally the best out there for me
Japan is great, can't wait to visit
15:11 Seeing that woman walk was beautiful.
This is what the heart of technology is about.
Empowering the People 😊
and seeing her knee 15:03 snap back 10 inches the wrong way was beautiful too.
The main cause of warps in all of reality and why do you say that? The robotic legs are literally empowering her. As in, giving her power.
18:30 "Get in the damn EVA, Shinji!!!"
1:10 Damn evas are everywhere, lurking in the shadows. Has seele managed to mass produce them?
"Who the hell do you think I am!"
It's an Angeru!
@@Poodleinacan "Hey hey hey hey hey. Listen up you walkin faces!"
NO!
"Hi Boss, im bussy. Can you talk to my digital assistant, please?" 🤣😊 Cool! The robots are incredible! 🤩
Fascinating look at Japan's leading role in robotics innovation! This BBC Click episode showcases the incredible technology transforming industries and daily life.
Well done to the BBC Click team! You consistently produce amazing content. One of the best channels on youtube.
Those backpack units are pure benelovence. Imagine the bonds it could help form between operators. Not even talking about military, industrial, day to day applications, hell even space exploration.
Me looking at that weird robot in the thumbnail :
"It's an enemy Stand !"
Cheap trick
God i love japan, what an exquisite culture, what dignity and progressiveness
This is what has made me in love with Japanese for a long long time.
8:15 is pure perfection! A Conscious being, becoming aware of the fact that it may not be conscious in real time as relative to......( itself 🤔)
Feel very Thankful for bringing the advanced robotics in research to the common public. Never knew research has gone to such extent...
@Ape man Commeth Yep, I am aware of the bots developed by Boston Dynamics, the doggy kind, the parkour kind, the backflip kind etc., But somewhere I do feel the Japanese are way more ahead in this Technology area, their replica is too close to human movements and appear Production ready. May be that's a reason why my curiosity rises when the tech of Japan is brought into light.
@Ape man Commeth Till date I have never come across such dedicated pages for Japanese Tech.
Brilliant innovative heads they have got.
@Heather Larson I would rather say that in europe lets take germany as an example, people are way less likely to invest in new buisnesses if you compare it to the Unites states.
@@einholzstuhl252 United States is just too afraid of innovation. Some people over here say that we're still far more advanced and have no need for such technology, but they'd be way wrong in terms of civilian tech.
That was the most realistic Mecha Robot I've seen yet pretty sweet I want one
Japan is awesome..
That intro was actually really cool and impressive, I was thinking, "what the heck, is this is a UA-camr they already deserve their own TV show". Then I noticed "BBC", ah it all makes sense now... xD
i think autonomous cars will arrive before that tech 7:47 gets even close to being implemented.
Yeah, remote controlled car like they have in Wakanda is too far fetched, 😅
I think it's more likely to be used in video game assistance to make people better at fortnight or whatever's next.
Autonomous car don't exist, is just a concept not a reality, this can't be fit in a real world.
@@ZapattaZ Have you ever heard about Tesla?
when i saw those 4 arms all i could think is: Dual wielding times 2 !
All these things are super impressive, just imagine how impressive the things are who are kept in secret at the current time. They might be 5-15 years ahead of the technology we are able to see here on UA-cam ^-^
Dreamer
What a great time to be alive, looking forward to see the advances coming!
Extra arms to hold soldering irons and components would be awesome! But the required accuracy would require some mega brain interface!
elders can keep working till their graves soon Awsome!
Wonderful video! Thank you guys for that.
Oh my god I want to hug all of them
0:33 For anyone wondering, that sign says "Bungo" which is a name given to signify the written language that was used in the Showa period. I can literally be read as "literary language".
The Japanese language is an ever evolving one, and it has changed much in the last hundred years. These days, modern Japanese in both written and spoken are much the same, but a hundred years ago they were different. The only way to describe it is by comparing Spanish to Portuguese, and then both of those to Tagalog (Philippine language which has a lot of Portuguese in it).
Japanese is a very complex language, and one of their forms of humour in written and spoken form is a sort of double entendre. Depending on how certain words are written or in what context they are spoken, they can have different meanings, kind of like homophones in english.
In this instance, depending on how you read the word "Bungo" or speak the word "Bungo", one could mean "literary language" and the other could mean "you".
Considering Japan's history with Buddhism and self reflection, this sign could have a deeper meaning as a statement in calligraphy by saying "you are the written language".
Those legs activated by nerve signals in the arms are connected wrongly. The right arm signals should activate the left leg, and the left arm signals should activate the right leg. This is because we move the left arm forward as we move the right leg forward, when we walk, and viceversa. Just like most quadrupeds move the front left leg and rear right leg forward at the same time, and viceversa. Only camels move both left legs forward, then both right legs. We are not camels.
the puppet tech has been a thing for years, before I was even born infact, but i'm glad they are finding a good use for it now outside of movies
Incredible, can imagine big buildings buying lots of Toyota's robot, then cleaners and maintenance staff just remote control shifting between buildings and robots, no travel time between jobs.
if i was controlling the robot mounted on my brothers back i would be trying to slap him constantly
0:11 Wait, I can just go to the store and buy a waifu head in Japan?
MOM! I'M MOVING TO JAPAN!
4:22 Reminds me of Zaphod Beeblebrox "HEEEEEEY how you cats doin?"
One of my favorite country I wanna go to once I graduate
The backpack robot is SO CUTE
Boston Dynamics has robots with great movement capabilities aimed for things like war.
Japan has robots and powersuits made to ease life.
you must be thinking of darpa and the TALON series. boston dynamics makes robots to experiment with dexterity and autonomous control in uncharted environments. they're essentially a precursor to urban, robotic assistance in the western world.
Boston Dynamics is owned by the _Japanese_ SoftBank Group!
A brilliant episode of click showing how humans must adapt when our lifespan ends up making us weary. I do believe this is the future of Japan and the worlds aging populations.
4:20 GENERAL KENOBI!
new meaning to a reach around
Speed up the robot, reaction times, and let them fight a virtual reality real battle. That would be a sport i'll watch
What we needed was one of the lady journalists to wear backpack bot and a really pervy japanese operator.
I consider augmentation to be the first/best step, it would rock to have robotic limbs that function just like actual human limbs, the innovation when it comes to style~
Vanity in augmentation
fusion is a great way to program with someone far away
Fantastic...
Valve Knuckles are going to blow this tech out of the water. The things people will be able to do with it will be amazing.
Finally a robot video that doesn't have 10+ adds.
Imagine these things in the military industry, wtf, a soldier with another robot but human controlled soldier at his back, two more eyes for every soldier or even more soldiers and arms. Or the first thing they showed, human controlled robots, seems like titanfall becomes slowly real. creepy af
Jaeger ........
jesus, dude. why do so many people instantly think of war when they see literally any robot. there could be a video on new automated manufacture robots and middle schoolers instantly go "imagine this in war" like dude, the fuck you need a heavy set of arms on your back that throws off your balance and could get you killed when you have air support and squadmates. no one gives a shit about infantry because infantry in this day and age only serves one purpose: to represent a country and project its power. in any other case infantry is useless, therefore everyone only cares about advancements in air support, even tanks are becoming obsolete. why send in soldiers, with expensive robotic equipment might i add, to die when you can MOAB a stronghold and make a beeline back home.
15.35 made me so happy
10:59 That moment when you recognise your university door on youtube, it's the EC building in EPFL, Lausanne
Quite admired by japanese inventions.
6:39 if that was managed by an IA it would be awesome... as a human there well it can be done online and that a great use, anyways u would suggest they use GloceOne instead of those joysticks, its way easier to use.
4:20 It is like that scientist from Rage/Rage 2
robot: stubs its toe...
human: screams in pain
This technology is starting to become really cool
The smile on the face of the polio-stricken woman walking a ramp in Japan says it all.
I remember reading years ago a SF book and they where talking about a tour bus stopping and all these robots getting off and looking around and taking pictures. The robots where being controlled by real people who where situated back in their homes located all over the world. No passports, no waiting in lines at the airport, no luggage. I can imagine hotels and airlines going broke really fast as they are no longer needed.
10:36 fricken moisture farmers can be a thing? good work star wars!! lol
4:50 looks like it could be a great piano teacher!
Hopefully one day I'll be able to work or intern at a company like these ones. For now, I'll finish my electrical engineering degree.
2:25 it’s the future with robot fights
Just immagine these people who are developing these techno can live & function long into the future with their own invention & development then they will become soooooo great longivity.
4:30 My Mechanicus dream is getting closer!
4:55 *SUTANDO POWA*
Honda's Asimo, Sony's Aibo you forget some of those
Oh and Japan, love your work so very very cool
does the toyota one using machine learning? i dont know how it works or if it would fit but i think that would be helping the robot...
That fusion is a third person peeking in military situation
love this channel, great video
It would be cool to use these robots for virtual vacations.
I'm going full geek here but check out the topology optimized bionic design shapes in the elbow joints at 4:09!
18:56 War survivor: First they passed it off as a "coincidence".
Japan is a GREAT country.
2:50 we need those in factory lines, where we have workers remotely connected trough internet at home and controlling the robot and do their job xD no more traffic jams to get to work in time.
This look awesome
And yet in my very large Japanese company (200 branches in Tokyo alone) fax is the primary method of communication.
:/
Imagine that fusion robot being used to recreate that romantic movie scene with the woman and the man behind her guiding her hands while she is making something with clay.
You know the fear is that adding augmentation to a person will cause that pertain to try to do more instead of doing the same task and have it augmented. Soon someone who typically moves one box at a time is moving two boxes due to augmentation. There might even be a a requirement as part of a job to be augmented so you can do more per task instead of for safety reason that they were originally designed for.
always high quality content
Old age people can enjoy such achievement with power to purchase.
the Toyota synchronous robot is very clever and good idea. I wonder if they could use that for disaster scenario like the fukushima and just have someone control the robot as if they were there but not put an actual human into harm. I can see many useful applications for that kind of synchronous. very sci-fi anime though cool
wow amazing Japan can create by our imagination a real life Isekai long live Japan and their Technology too 🇯🇵❤
Very good video as always!
"Ah, General Kenobi!" 4:20
Japan is literally so advanced with this kind of stuff.
Im so glad they made the best stand into relality. Hey ya is pretty op if you ask me
awesome gys keep going
The biggest constrain about these robots is certainly the power sources, either they're tethered on cable or battery.
quite an impressive episode *#bbcclick*
The spinal paraplegic therapy robot is particularly impressive in what it promises to do. It's not a permanent solution, it's a re-builder of the body until the paraplegic can walk again. So this is not technology of dependency but a technology of empowerment on the road to independence.
That handy pandy backpack robot will be a new genre of vids in certain film industry.. ;)
HMM thats an interesting take
A much better use would be inter action between piano teachers and students.
I have researched this industry that you speak of for many years I believe your hypothesis is correct
19:55 Please switch on my trousers! 🤣
future will be fun
wooow Japan so far in technology
4:20 I'd be doin some reach aroundy stuff
