About the spinning satellite launcher. I like how he says it's all in the timing.. he even demonstrates it by hand.. protecting the secrets of how the computer senses the spinning projectile's current position relative to the exit, and then releases it just at the perfect moment when it lines with the exit. That kind of precision, especially at supersonic speeds is virtually impossible to be executed by a human being.

Although humans have been doing this kind of thing, with slings, bolas, & Olympic hammers, for food and sport, for thousands of years, the mechanics near escape velocity & 100# will be daunting, and only VERY large slings can lower the extreme "G" forces the payload must tolerate from the crushing centrifugal energy required.

    I enjoyed that. Thanks 😎 👌

We're now back to Discus Throwing events to launch satellites. If it works, why not? Would save a lot on fuel.

Smart city tech is really cool. Vegas will always have a big issue getting water though...

Launches at 5000 MPH... Mach 6.5... same speed that the Hypersonic Aircraft the X-15 flies at. BUT... to actually escape Earth's Gravity, like to go to the moon, it needs to get up to 25,000 MPH, or Mach 32. To stay in low Earth orbit, it must get up to 17,500 MPH, or Mach 23. So that rocket still provides most of the acceleration energy.

No flying cars please. We already can't get driving right in 2 dimensions.

It has shown wrong address of my home for over ten years even after I moved to new home. How reliable is google. At lease show me google can make it right. My home is at 132.

So why don't we just shoot satalites with hydrogen gas. Spin launch seems kinda dumb

  • @Martronic

Really? No it's not.... The speeds you need will rip the whole thing apart.... Notice how almost all the footage is cgi? Also good luck getting this huge vacuum chamber empty enough and have the projectile self stabilize....

Why no discussion of data security in regards to Smart City plan for Las Vegas? CIA, FBI, etc can access those data. How is it different from what have already been in works in China? Or if it is in China then everything is bad but if you do it in West, everything is ok. Hypocrisy knows no bounds.

Disappointed with BBC. This is a compilation of fluff pieces. Where is the actual reporting?

Yes, I do miss the days of serious science reporting. This video has some really interesting topics, but seems like a children’s programme…

If these companies want my data, I'll want a #Quest for a minimum of £100!
To allow these companies to have my #Data and #Money is unrealistic.

That moment where the presenters are finishing off each other's sentences, and the lame jokes, might as well have canned laughter to confirm the banality and irrelevance of this format to anyone interested in following technological advances... Unsubscribing, Click makes my skin crawl each time I try and watch another episode, I can't sit through another Click video 👎🏼💩
