The RD9 is on my pack as a chopper. will take a small light slicer for food prep like the Kabar Snody Big Boss. Sometimes I'll also pack a stabber like the Buck 650 Nighthawk or Ontario SP6. Anyway, I did a little chopping comparison between the RD9 and BK9 and honestly, I don't like the BK9. It kept slipping as everyone criticizes. I did put orange TKC G10 scales on my RD9 so that might be the big difference. The RD9 is also 1/4" thick of 5160 mid-carbon spring steel and the BK9 is 3/16" thick of 1095 CroVan. But the biggest complaint from me about the BK9 is those stupid skeletonized handles! The RD9 is full non-skeletonized tang. I have seen the BK9 break at those weak points on the skeletonized part. Why would they do that. You would think they would save money by skipping that step in the manufacturing process of removing material. I actually e-mailed Kabar and asked them if they would please consider a non-skeletonized BK9 version. They said no. So the tough RD9 all the way for me.
