    It’s worth just knocking on a locals door and ask for some sugar to put in your bottle and water if you ever get in that state before. I’m type 1 diabetic and ran out of food/drink while out on a big ride in Portugal and everything was shut. Had to take that option and the local was more than happy to help. Felt like a new man afterwards.

      Bonking before a little hill back into Kendal on a hot day when I'd forgotten about fuelling, I asked a lady pottering about in her garden in Levens for some sugar in my bottle. She just looked at me, like I'd asked her to give me all her jewellery. Wasn't happy. Eventually she agreed to give me a spoon or two in my water and popped into her house. Meanwhile, someone who'd overheard our rather weird chat offered me a Snickers. I thanked her but declined.

      I have NEVER thought of that! What a brilliant idea!
      I was completely banjaxxed once, some years back, totally wiped out having got to the bottom of a very minor hill, after many kilometres in a very hot France on a bicycle tour once. Or was it flat? I got to the bottom and sat on the low wall around a (dry) village fountain. The village hall had an outside tap - dry. There were maybe 20 houses. A couple of 10 or 11 yr old children got talking to me, but I was almost too knackered to engage with them - I was in the "please let me die peacefully" mode. They persevered. After some Google Translate aided chat they cycled off (30m?) to their home and bought a litre bottle of water back! Oh glorious children/people/humans! I felt *SO* guilty, not having met their mother to thank her and explain who I was, and that I was in no way a threat to the kiddies, that I would pay for her water. They were saints.
      Whoever they are, may they be forever rich in their own terms (love, land. friends, money, pets, vocation) etc

    Amy why don’t you and Kyle take a few gels on every ride they weigh next to nothing and most have a really long shelf life.
    You can always stop at your favourite cafe and not use the gels.
    Make them part of your kit to take with you like you would an inner tube.
    My favourite is rhubarb and custard by Torq gels. They really do work.

    You two are so REAL! Whether it is getting frustrated at what you have both eaten, looking at each others butts for hours with a sense of grimness, even though you love both them and their owner's at other times, getting frustrated with ... anything/everything! ... is SO normal. And wonderful. You both will get an OBE for services to the UK, society, health and happiness soon

    There’s shops or cafe is all small city’s and I can see u went past many of them and been super close to many as well, but atleast after Val d ebo there this supermarket back towards alcalali which has 1 cafee stop on the corner of the petrol station then they have the station and then a little corner ship in the city. And bottom of coll de rates there’s also a bike rental/cafe with snacks. Spain is also a place when you go always bring 2 more gels then ur supposed, because u never no how much your body need on the day.

    Hi guys, great video as usual. What a stunning location. Remember one of my earlier comments though. Always take gels and fluids, as much as you can on long rides. The body switches from glycogen ( sugars) for energy to fat after about 2 hours of continuous medium level sporting activity. Fat does not give you nearly as much energy as sugars so you will most definitely "bonk" if you don't keep your sugar energy and food fuel levels up. It's important not just for the ride you're on, but if you go too deep on one ride regarding fuel, it can take days to build your body's reserve levels back up to normal, which means that riding for consecutive days and not being able to regain high enough sugar levels is going to result in permanent damage to muscles. The muscle tissue becomes weaker and connot sustain even normal daily function and I'm guessing that's not where you want to go. Long rides yes absolutely, adequate food and energy even more so. I can tell you this because I've done it to myself when I was starting out thinking that I could ride hundreds of miles in training prior to a race like some kind of pro cyclist. Didn't get it all wrong!! I was peddling squares for the last 30 kilometers of a 110 kilometer race and was almost pushing the bike up the hills. I didn't make that mistake again I can tell you. Anyway I just love your enthusiasm and keep the joy and the love. I am already looking forward to the next vid TTFN.

    • @TheMarman57
      @TheMarman57 6 днів тому

      @@amy.cycling.adventures You're very welcome. The distances you're riding are not insignificant, and no matter how accustomed your body is to long stints in the saddle, you must keep fueling up for energy. Even the pro's have to remember to do it. Drink and eat at 10 to 15 minute intervals for rides of an hour or longer, and don't wait until you're thirsty to take a drink, by then it's probably too late to catch up the deficit. I learned that from my marathon running days.

It's really a good test of will power and commitment. At the end of it you'll be better for it.

    Regarding stretching. I had a 20 minute stretching program which was actually the warmup routine for a Jane Fonda Workout video back in the 1980s. It went literally from head to toes and enabled me to stretch every important muscle group prior to starting my training - and again when I finished. There are probably better ones, but that one always kept me injury-free when I was a runner, and I still employ my own version of it today. It makes me feel ready for my ride when I start, and it aids my warm-down when I've finished. I think it's every bit as useful and important as the workout itself. If you want to see the original Jane Fonda vid, here's the link. ua-cam.com/video/fwQ1PrED9IE/v-deo.html
