Eric Whitacre and the Eric Whitacre Singers performing Sleep, only on vowels, live at AIR Studios, London.
The ending just keeps getting quieter and quieter and even more beautiful, and then Eric laughs. It's like waking up from a dream.
Brad Parese What do you mean “like?”

Quite possibly the most beautiful and moving choral performance I have ever heard. This is the power of the human voice. I could listen to this for the next 100 years. Eric, your talent is beyond comprehension. Your gifts to the world are this music. Thank you!
Why am I in tears listening to vowels...?!?! Eric Whitacre, I cannot STAND you. LOL...this was quite phenomenal & definitely eye-opening.
The skill of those singers not drifting to each other's notes during those moments of dissonance. So good.
Those moments of dissonance are so sublime
Can you believe that the human voice can create such beautiful music and convey emotion without even using words?!!
Listen to Palestrina. Maybe this is what he would sound like if he were a composer today, five hundred years later.
The depth of his choir, the layers of sound are just incredible.
Brian Baumgarn I'm noticing the sound of the collective in-breath, is there anything like that in the library? 🙏
You know, Eric Whitacre has gotten so much flack for his conducting, but when you watch it here, it looks so perfectly clear, beautiful, and expressive. I would adore singing under him.
I did a little expiriment and muted, and attempted to sing along. I could follow him perfectly.
Why has he gotten flack for his conducting? Looks fine to me.
Guido Anselmi I haven’t heard much about it, but I’d assume it’s because he doesn’t follow the traditional approach (following a beat pattern, not mirroring, that sort of thing). But I would agree, if it gets the job done, it gets the job done.
I've felt so too looking at his early videos. however, if you check out for example when he came to visit Stockholm with St Jacobs Vokalensemble for a workshop (it's on UA-cam), he really made me open up my eyes, being in that ensemble (and also filming it). He's so fluent, moves in an out with the ensemble to communicate emotions and is such a clear communicator of his music that it's hard to fail if you know what your're doing. He grew into a fabulous choral leader and is also a very inspiring individual.
This is the sound of angels
Before beginning class, our Choir teacher played this for us to listen to.
I really want to do this because wide vowels and angelic choirs always gets my heart racing. The sound it produces is amazing.
Eric is and always will be one of my favorite composers. His ear for harmonies and dissonance is very unique and incredible. My heart swells every time I hear him.
omg the glittering overtones at 3:36
This is wonderful 💕
I love this so much
Arvo Pärt would be so proud. I've always wanted the spitfire chaps to do a vocal library. I can't wait for this!
Love the music of Arvo Part. Listened to his Spiegel m Spiegel yesterday.
Can’t stop listening to this, it’s almost better than with words. Speaks to my soul
I keep coming back to this video over and over. I truly wish there were a lossless recording of this that Eric or Spitfire could release into the wild, I'd always have it on repeat when I need to decompress.
I love LOVE how he conducts. You can tell he loves his singers, and his direction is amazing.
i can’t express how much i want to sing under him
Sublime !!!❤
Im crying. This is incredible... I can't, just WOW! I can't wait to hear the vocal library!
Eric's speaking voice is very nice. If he sings I bet it sounds amazing!
I think i like this version even more than with words. Absolutely sublime!
Just beautiful.
It's amazing that this much sound can come out of this small amount of people. Wow. This is incredible
this is a celebration of emotions, it incorporates both sad, happy...and victorious feelings
BRAVI !!!!!❤❤❤👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
When you sing this song purely on vowels, even on the words, and you listen to it being sung and conducted by him it's like you're transferred into another world and everything around you fades away. It made me cry tears of beauty.
Eric Whitacre and the Eric Whitacre Singers: The emotional intelligent. All the singers in one soul, in one heart. Incredible! This video shows how Mr. Eric Whitacre feels the energy of music! The silence, the vibrato, the creation... No EQ. :-) Simply MUSIC! I I Love you! Eric Whitacre and the Eric Whitacre Singers. I Love you Spitfire Audio! You are my inspiration and my hands.
Amazing. Love EW. So very, very gifted.
This is exactly why you buy into the Spitfire family. This will be one of the most unique choral libraries to date, mark my words!
4:47-4:49.Wow😮
Great
Divinement beau!!🥰
my advanced mixed chorus did this song my senior year and omg it was sooooo good, i lost the recording though. love this song
Absolute fantastic!
The singing becomes like blood flowing through the veins of one corporeal body... Indeed, music unites us all.
This room is fantastic!
oh man this is gonna be incredible.
just incredible...
breathtaking
Oh my goodness!never heard anything like this before. Its like an out of body experience.Heavenly
That's an incredibly difficult piece of choir music and they do it good justice. I was looking for a piece for our community choir, but this is a bit above our league. I hadn't heard of Eric Whitacre previously, or his choir. I'll have to search out a version with the words. Nice reverberant acoustics without being OTT or mushy.
Truly awesome.
Love it!
Incredibly excited for this library to complement my Albion collection
MARAVILLOSO¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
I love how the camera work is insane too for literally no reason lol
SUBLIME ! ! !
Wowwww, truly amazing!!!!
Wow. Looks like we're in for a treat in 2017.
magnifique !
Bjuuuuuuuuutiful! And perfec'! Especial kudos to the silent oh's!
I cannot wait. Amazing!
When he said "choir library", I thought of a library where every book sings a note when you pull it out of the shelf...
I'm waiting!!!
Wow.
And here I was, wishing for a choral library from Spitfire. Seems like the wish came through, and with Whitacre, no less. Really eager to try it out!
I already feel better:)
very cool! your wishlist Christmas incentive is getting me very excited for the coming day! hope I get a present. all of your libraries at wonderful.
I didn't plan on crying today, looks like this music brought out the best and worst of me all at once.
Love how ew always makes a big deal about how talented his singers are. Then the laugh at the end, it's like he's never heard this piece before.
What a guy.
So who else is stilling impatiently waiting for this library to come out???
Looking forward to this. I wonder when it will be released.
I wonder how eric whitacre told his sopranos to sing like that, the sopranos sounds amazing.
Vibrato is pretty great, but straight tone is truly amazing.
well Eric - you have yourself some very good singers there.
- Eric Whitacre - The Seal Lullaby - Seal Lullaby, by Rudyard Kipling - - - Oh! Hush thee, my baby, the night is behind us - And black are the waters that sparkled so green - The moon, o'er the combers, looks downward to find us - At rest in the hollows that rustle between - - Where billow meets billow, then soft be thy pillow - Oh weary wee flipperling, curl at thy ease - The storm shall not wake thee, nor shark overtake thee - Asleep in the arms of the slow swinging seas! - Asleep in the arms of the slow swinging seas! - - - - “The White Seal,” the story of the albino seal messiah Kotick, who saves his kind from the slaughtering fur traders by finding them a beach completely inaccessible to man on which they could live. The story begins with the “Seal Lullaby.” - - - - The lyrics of this song are a poem, "Seal Lullaby, " written by Rudyard Kipling as an introduction to "The White Seal," the seventh story in "The Jungle Book," first published in 1894. - The tune was written by Eric Whiteacre in 2004.
I am a composer of high school marching band shows and would LOVE to play around with this sample library. Is there any info on where I can purchase this or when it will be released?
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🌹🌹🌹
Does anyone know what the chord at 1:47 is called??
It could be called an Fadd2add4 chord or an Fadd9add11 chord, but I think the second one might be more accurate. Either way, the notes are F, C, G, A, C, F, A, Bb in order from lowest to highest.
My band director said it was 2 chords stacked on top of each other... So maybe we're on the right track....
It's a "secundal" chord. Jacob is correct. It's an Fmajor chord base but with an added G and Bb. One of Whitacre's famous cluster chords :) hope this helps!
Thank you! I had the same question.
so when are we getting a choir library?!?!?!?!?!!?!?
This is amazing, but I wish he would add either a stronger high first sap part or double up because the high 1st is so drowned out
I would pay cash on site for an a capella album of greatest hits. Not remotely kidding.
went death at 1:37 rip
who is that one disgraceful unlike? WHAT is wrong with you?!
3:07
Can we get Eric Whitacre to compose the music for the next Halo game? At least we'd know the music would be amazing.
00:38
Better than the most powerful sedative. Is there a non-lyrical recorded version of this? I'd buy it immediately.
Is that Stephen Kennedy and Jimmy Holliday singing on the far right?
この圧倒的な音響の中に存在したい....
Sublime. Somewhat distracting to have a camera operator moving around the conductor's immediate area though.
look at the cameraman whom are not wearing shoes, as he's not allowed to make any sound while stepping.
Sounds like secular version of Russian Orthodox choirs
Not quite as good as Asshole, but good to see Denis Leary still working.
I wonder how Jacob Collier would redo this amazing piece using his reharmonization skills.
Good song, but I probably shouldn't have listened to it with headphones on....
Am i perfect pitch or what? I can hear some flat notes in soprano. Cmiiw
It's on purpose lol.
Called dissonance bruv
lol
Ya know, on some videos I just love mute, here I had to turn around, the juxtaposition of what I was hearing and seeing was a bit much. Such beautiful music out of one who conducts so badly and is a bit greasy while dressing like his Junior High School son, and no, I don't know if he has a junior high son - but he has his clothes. Again, great music, it was just better not watching how they make sausage or seeing what they put in it. Lastly, everyone knows (or should at least) the music is over a few measures after the final cut off, the laugh at the end was akin to pissing on a freshly mopped floor. Music lives within time, maturity is required to understand that. Appreciating what one just heard is reflected in the amount of time an individual gives themselves to reflect upon it. The laugh at the end was distasteful. Who in their right mind provides a meal of untold delights to only serve dung for desert...............all before was ruined..............that's the way music works..................
