I've known Don all my life, went to school with his daughter. I didn't know he was at the D Day invasion until After Saving Private Ryan came out. My Pa told me Don was there. So many of my Fathers friends from work were combat vets from Guadalcanal, Iwo, Italy, France and Belgium. Rarely did they speak of what they did unless they were around other Vets. They were and inspiration for me to join the paratroopers.
I am British,I love watching your American heroes. Is it little wonder that you have such a great nation with superheroes like this. Its guys like this that put the GREAT into America.
Bruce you are so right. No country has a higher number of war heroes than Great Britain.Ive read and watched countless documentary’s through all the wars we,as country have been involved in over many hundreds of years and the heroism of our forces that fills me with pride to be British.
I could listen to these men all day.. Seems like there was an unwritten code, In which many of them didnt talk about what took place. You knew that they were in the service and you knew that they fought in the war.. That was about as much as they were willing to share for many years.. Thank you guys for giving them a chance to finally let it out and tell their stories ..
The audio was poor, but using head phones solved that problem. I appreciate that the interviewer gave this precious veteran plenty of time and room to talk. Whenever one is in the presence of a veteran, there is something that simply makes you stand up a little straighter. These men and women--including civilians caught in the middle--were tough as nails. Makes me feel sheepishly weak every time. One day, we will have united peace for all
I had seven uncle's went off to WW2, four were in extreme combat, 2 paratroopers, tailgunner and merchant Marines. None talked about thier war, except the oldest, who was a paratrooper, Italy to Eagels nest VE day, he told his two younger brothers, survival tips, for Korea and Vietnam, nothing more. PTSD This uncle, Olen statistically should not have survived the war, he was a machine Gunner, very high mortality, tailgunner even higher. Suicide jobs! Tips were, on Frontline, you can't say "no" to an order (you can explain, why you won't), and never group up, too big a target.
My grandfather served in France. I would give anything to know what he did while he was there as he never spoke of his time to my father or aunt and uncles. He is gone now but i would love to know his story. I loved him with all my heart and miss him every day!
What's wrong with the audio? The veteran is properly mic'd up and sounds clear as any other TV Broadcast. Are you talking about the audio of the person asking the questions?
Taco Myrick perhaps a tour equipment? I’m not having any problem hearing them. Additionally I’m just grateful that we have this video to look back on. These men are heroes.
Always remember to repent of your sins (sin is transgression of YAHUAH’S LAW: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, & Deuteronomy) And Have Belief On YAHUSHA HAMASHYACH. HE Died and Rose three days later so that you can be forgiven of your sins! HE Loves you! Come to HIM!🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

There were plenty of heroes on the British side as well.

My father was in the south Pacific and he said all UK troops, Great Britain, Canada, Australia. NZ, were excellent soldiers.
Every country had lions for men. There is no denying that. God bless.
What a great story teller Thanks for your service Don
They don't make em like this anymore ! Respect & thanks.
I’m from bournemouth in England where you stayed. 5mins away from Highcliffe hotel. Thank you for sharing your story.
My Grandfather was also in the 238th combat engineer battalion. I wish he was still alive so I could show him this!

I love these things. I miss stuff too, but heck, put the speaker to your ear if it’s hard to understand. He’s country. Talks country.
Top class.
I grew up and still live in Benson NC about 25 miles from Goldsboro and know many of the places he was in. Also spent some time at Ft. Bragg too.
The volume on all these videos are excruciatingly low.
Great interview. Thanks!!
God bless you sir .thankyou .
Im afraid this country will be destroyed in less time then it was built.. God bless, thank you for your service
Yeah another lockdown coming.
Good ol Carolina boy 💪 love em
The british accent he keeps doing is priceless.
He’s funny! I chuckled a few times from his jokes
get your audio right to low what a shame
What a great man!
"This country...'it can be destroyed in less time that it was built'" ...Wow.
The content is great but the audio is done so poorly it's difficult to hear. These vets deserve far better presentation.

Use ear phones or a cans to heat
VETERAN SCOTS GUARDS .....IM IN AWE OF WHAT THOSE VETERANS ACCOMPLISHED UNDER SUCH DIRE CIRCUMSTANCES....😇😶😃😊
I did not catch all ...Did he say he was a Warrant Officer? Or did he say "I wanted to be an officer"
Volume way too low, bad sound. Nice fella interesting. Pity.
2 different accents. Carolina & Massachusetts
I thought he said 40$ an 1/8 Lmao I was gonna say that’s how much some top shelf is in my city 5 years ago
you put your hand on that 23000 volts and that will be the last time you give an order...
Moral of the story... Don't listen to young Lieutenants. They aren't very bright. Thank you Sir.
Still true to this day especially ROTC dipshits. Best officers are NCO’s that went to OCS.
Bright enough... just not knowledgeable enough...
I can't hear the interview
I wish I understood what he says.
Put the subtitles (captions) on
@@ahmoseh3718 The captions are a joke. They're worthless. Don't believe me? Test it out.
@@51MontyPython complain and remain
You must not speak English at all. Is pretty understandable English
Amo los estadounidense de la ww2
Volume low as hell
My volume is fine. In fact I have it turned down a little bit.
Do seasick pills work?
yes one saved my life
Is that how people from North Carolina speak? Quite difficult for non Americans to follow.
