Documentary Francisco Alegre, the slumdweller memory from Barcelona [Subtitles ENG]

Barcelona is a major tourist destination in Spain, known for its remarkable architecture and beauty. It is a cosmopolitan city where many foreigners want to live.
However, little is known about the migratory wave that occurred a few decades ago, during a dark post-war period of political persecution and poverty. During the 40s, 50s, and 60s, people from Andalusia, Galicia, and Aragon arrived at Barcelona.
In Barcelona In the neighborhood of El Carmel, in the periphery, what at the time was practically the outskirt, and more precisely in the surroundings of the street Francisco Alegre is where the first waves of emigrants, what used to be our immigrants, started settling in. Many families settled in self-made slums and unsteady shacks without electricity or water, and began to rebuild their lives amidst hardship and hope.
This project BARNACAS, features the historical memory of the pre-Olympic Barcelona slums in an “augmented narrative” format, a transmedia platform. It focuses on the children of the first slum dwellers, the second generation, the forgotten generation from that specific slum period.
PS: The short linear documentary narrates a part of the Slum dweller story, but we also published an illustrated book and there’s an Interactive web-documentary available. On the other hand, we organize hiking tours to visit the old slum soils. The guide is an ex-slum-dweller, and is one of the protagonists of this transmedia platform).
