- Panasonic HC-VX981K 4K Ultra HD Camcorder UnBoxing! & First Impressions.
So, its finally time! My you Tube Subscribers came together to buy This camera so they can watch more great content from this you tube channel.
After owning my Panasonic HDC-TM90 for over 5 years it finally quit. the LCD stopped and it seems to be done... i can still record with it but cant get to some of the menus, most of the manual mode stuff. so its kinda a bust. I love that camera... so i hope the VX981 lives up to the standards!
Full review coming soon!

thank you so much for zooming in and showing the info on the battery pack and wall charger. I am moving countries and was thinking about buying, but was unsure if it was compatible. thank you again!

Awesome cam Russ

heya russ, Camera looks good bud. I also had a Panasonic HD camera however it decided to become a paperweight a few weeks back so I went and purchased a GoProHero5 black. so far it's been pretty fun but I still want to get my old one fixed I think. Take care bud, Chris
Congrats Russ and thanks to all of your subscribers for helping you!
I'll email you back about getting in touch with Joel and Jerry!
Enjoy Russ
thanks brother! keep up the good work on you end! cool stuff you build! ~Russ
I find the most useful setting for the scroll wheel on my Canon camera is to switch between focus assist and exposure assist (70%/100% striping) modes. Haven't really used it for anything else.
EDIT: One thing I'd mention about the sound on the new camera: It might be better not to have auto gain control enabled. It does sound a teeny bit overcompressed. That's my only criticism, but it's all good! Glad you managed to get the 4k camera and can't wait to see more videos. :)
yeah i messed up the audio after recording :) still need to play with that!
i can set the wheel for lets say focused, and yeah thats nice. ill have to get use to using it!
Thanks!
~Russ
awesome !!!!!!!!!
you guys are! yes!!! ~Russ
Waaay Cooool....

I am thinking about getting this camera, but I am concerned that my Zoom H4N Pro will not fit if I tried to attach it to the hot-shoe adapter the camera comes with.
Has anyone tried it and can confirm it does or does not fit?
Hello Russ. The more I watch your video's the more I want to ask. Were you by chance living for a time in a camper with your brother and his girlfriend in a campground Near Mt. Rainer in Washington in the early 1990's? I just keep thinking maybe I met you up there.
nope :) not me was in IN most of my life ~Russ
ok, cool , now I know, Thanks
Oooo, a Leica lens. Nice.
yeah! ~Russ
Dose the Panasonic HC-VX981 display military time or standard?
Both.
Russ, Can you control the cam with your phone?
yes! it can also be used as a second picture in picture. so lets say ( over view cam) and the good cam a close up cam. kinda cool, would use that some times. ~Russ
Thanks Russ. I'm really interested in this camera (just about ready to pull the trigger), do you like it so far?
let's go through a few Q.
what is your goal for it?
do you need 4k.
are you going use it more in your hand or in a try pod?
answer anythig. else I'll post back my thoughts so far.
*****
Thanks Russ.
1) UA-cam and Personal
2) I would like 4K, I have 4K Monitors, and a fairly strong computer and editing software (Davinci Resolve Studio)
3) I think both, but more on tripod
It's really a toss up between the Sony *AX53 and the one you got. I like the 100mbit 4K of the Sony, but I'm not sure on the other stuff... Right now the model you got is almost 200 bucks cheaper.
Hard decision... :-)
personally I all ways liked my panosonic. it's been a while sence I used a sony.
if you plan on using the 4k. then this is good. in 1080 the frame is croped. That's normal but it really kills the wide angle. but it's fine in 4k. still less wide as my old cam. it not sure about the sony you mentend. I did look at Somthing and compaired the specs. not much difference. also if your an auto mode guy. it's not amazing. but in manual it's got most of the bells and whistles. I do like this cam so far but still liked my old one better. guess that will grow on me. ;) Here is what I would do. go to the local best buy or Somthing that have both of them and play with them. I'm not sure about the menus or anything on the sony. I'd say for a user like you or me this one fits the bill. I mean is the mbs really gonna show up in our avrage video? prob not. I will say that low lighting is not best. but I still need to play with the back lighting. the one time I did it it really did a good job. more testing needed there. hope this helps. anything else just and and I'll do my best to help answer ;) ~Russ
I wonder how many times you can fold your old camera lol 😂
hahhahhaaha yes! WE MUST FIND OUT! ( however... it kinda* still works... so maybe in another 5 years? hehe ) good comment!!! ~Russ
Does this camera uses proprietary batteries??
kinda. you can find 3rd party batterys. but they recommend not using them. I did get and extra one but I forgot to show it. but this came with an extra battery and charger. charger. from the place I bought it. same one as in this video. however. with extrnal 5v usb battery pack. why would anyone want to buy over priced batterys. :) ~Russ
Funny how he's showing us the "front mic jack" when it's actually a badly placed headphone jack
Can you get me 1
