cool, well I keep watching your review so I can see it in action and every time it makes me more and more excited to get and run it :D love your vids mate!!
Well Mate I got mine in Railfreight livery and absolutly LOVE it, great vid and glad you did what you did to help me deside to get it as I love it and I have a new favorite loco!! it looks really great pulling the cars I have hooked to it!!!
@bighoward1001 Thanks for your comments. This one does have NEM coupling boxes. I am have left the front one empty and put a wide Hornby coupling on the rear. You're right about the lights, they really should be making the most of the DCC control for functions.
@BR75069 You're right, they do line up but unfortunately they don't want to go through the cross-over points without derailing. All seems ok with the wider couplings though.
Good video, informative. reference cab lights. This is an easy mod and involves two 1.7mm. flat white LEDs. the purple wire on the Hornby wiring harness is the negative and the blue wire the common return. Not forgetting the 1.5k 1/4 watt resistor on the positive. Choice of decoder, I would have gone for the Lenz but this is of personal choice. ESU and Zimo recommends that powered fans are removed after the DCC conversion this is due due to spurious signals sent back to the decoder. ESU. Via. SWD. sent out warning that they would not honour the warranty on their chips.
The NEM couplings for your class 31 ARE compatible with the bigger ones. All you have to do is line up the pins correctly so the NEM and the other bigger couplings fit together.
It was on the conservatory floor, yes, but we have since moved and I have a spare room which will become the train room with a proper layout on boards around the room.
The bluetac is holding the track down on the smooth floor - otherwise it moves around. I will be starting the fixed layout on proper boards in the spare room soon.
verry nice video, may I suggest that while your reviewing (showing off the loco) maybe more lighting to allow the camera to balance out the colours?? over all I love the review, great work!! Im getting one of these my self!
hi. i too have this model, and after a long search on the internet, did find a picture of 31105 in redstripe rail freight as modelled so the livery is correct.
Cheltenham model centre is a great place to buy unlike may other shops out there that send items in damaged boxes or worse still completely damaged models. Anyway can I also ask although this model is in railfreight red it does not have a spot light - thanks
cool, just so you know your review (really great by the way) has helped me decide on my next engine purchase!! yea so its not american but I love it still LOL!!! do you know if other liveries are offered for this engine?

Thanks James. I think I need to lock the white balance and exposure as well as find somewhere brighter!
good video and a very nice loco.ive had my eye on one of them for a while but may wait until the railtrack version comes out!

Ok cool, would love to see some running on my layout with the Network Rail scheme :D!! I can't wait to get mine :)
yes there are at least 4 other liveries, including the original BR blue and the current Network Rail yellow.

brilliant i love 31s

i have this loco very nice especially on the speeklink workings
I think the picture card is there to supply more protection during transit. Not as flimsy as the transparent stuff alone.
@Liverpoolfcfever - yes it does. There are good photos on ehattons.com of the 31 in this livery, including a photo of the roof showing the fan.
It was a bit poor with the 8-pin Hornby decoder, but I changed it for a Bachmann one when I did the DMU and it now runs much better.

yes good point.
Indeed, but now I am building the permanent layout - check out my other videos!

I see you've blue taked your track down like IC82. I'll admit I have done too!
dose the class 31 Regional Railways one have spinng fans
No spotlight - just the two headlights and tail lights as seen in the video.
which shop did you buy it?
is your layout on the floor..
I agree EBay price's are out of control. Better deal's from local modelo shops.
Why is there bluetack
Cheltenham Model Centre
The card probably keeps the sun off the loco
