That was a very good and interesting video. Both Class 31's look good and I shall now have a go at overhauling and converting my Airfix Class 31 to DCC. many thanks for the inspiration.
Excellent Video Dan. With mention to the Airfix Coaches they do indeed hold up well. Another which I am particularly keen on are the Mainline Mk1's and can be picked up for peanuts. I have a rake of Mainline MK1 Maroons and they more than look the part. Sure there is no Flush Glazing but I am no rivet counter of which there are too many in this hobby nowadays who push the price up to beyond most modellers budget as they seek perfection from the manufacturers,
That green class 31 is still about ironically at the north Norfolk railway still in this livery but not with the name plates but with a yellow face on both ends and it’s preserved at north Norfolk railway
I have a Class 31 somewhere in this house. I cannot even remember what numbers are on it. I have two more base boards to build and fit and then I can move some of the track forward to allow room for the Viaducts. Your dad must have an interesting collect of Locomotives. Martin. (Thailand)
I have an Airfix 31 that has been languishing in my scrap box for decades. It's a non runner with many bits missing. I got it thrown in with a bigger batch of other stuff at a car boot sale, and didn't think much of it at first but took a closer look some years later. I've often wondered if it is worth the effort to restore seeing I can probably pick up a nicer one cheaply. Mine is slightly different to yours internally. For example I'm pretty sure the motor is 3-pole, but the bogie is of the same construction overall.
Another lovely restoration on a model ahead of its time, I agree on the blue locos bufferbeams as I have one and ended up repainting the bufferbeams black and redone the yellow to make it more neat. Not wanting to be too nosey but did you visit bressingham recently? I was operating the model railway in the exhibition hall and I thought I heard your voice along with James'
I got one of these that I got brand new in box. I have the little oval track for it run by the transformer with batterys. It runs sort of on and of. I have checked all the connections on the track and they are ok. Is it the battery pack that is crap or do I just need to brake in the loco? I guess it´s been sitting in a box for 40 years so of course it´s not gonna run like a newly produced train.
I`ve still got a unfinished airfix 31, It had been dropped and chassis cracked and front coupling snapped off, I rebuit the chassis only to find a brush is missing and never seen another as the hornby ones are to short
Great video again Dan, my green airfix 31 is a great runner, thanks for sharing John

I love the garden route extension.

Another really nice repair job. An old plastic cotton bud stick? Absolutely brilliant!!!
Got three of these plus three Hornby class 37s with Airfix 31 chassis, smooth and powerful locos.
Another great repair
That was very useful and I love this model. Nice tip about turning the traction tyres inside out. Thanks!
Great repair video. I have the green one bought secondhand. Still a pretty good runner. Thanks for showing. Regards Paul.

Great steady hands, mate!
Well done on both dan, the green one is lovely, like the garden railway 👍
When they came out in 1975, they were streets ahead of the Hornby version in terms of detail and performance. I still have two in my collection.
Hi dan yet another enjoyable repair

Are you certain its not a Triang version?
@@dansmodelrailways7886 could be, the battery box part is missing and I can't see any markings on any of the other parts.

Hi Dan, I have the same loco and want to know which black paint did you use for the buffer area?
Those wheels had to be dummies so as not to hit the motor.
