@@Dreyno They formed in 1981 in Dunfermline. I definitely saw them in 1986 . Stuart Adamson was born in 58 so had definitely left school by then aswell
Such an underrated song, album, band and lyricist. There’s something of a modern day Vincent Van Gogh in Richey Edwards. Under appreciated in his lifetime and tortured by the unseen demon of depression and alcoholism in a society that didn’t understand it at the time. Both will be remembered by the art they left behind. 💞🌻🌹
Awesome song, awesome solo, awesome album! After hearing it for the 1st time (friend cd), went to buy it right away. For then on, MSP were always one of my fav bands. This one is on my top 3 MSP songs: others are If you tolerate this then your children will be next and Motorcycle emptiness.

“It parades Milan catwalks”, what a line, an amazing juxtaposition of a generation that laid down their lives in the war just to be forgotten about and their memories used as aesthetic trinkets for the superficial modern society!
A masterclass in music and lyricism, these lad's will oneday be put on the same pedestals as Oscar wilde, dickens, dostoyevsky, Hugo et al! This song far surpasses anything that Bob Dylan has penned since 65!! If Richie has shuffled off this mortal coil we lost an icon of the first degree.. La tristesse durera indeed! Yeah the sadness endures. Love your work manics and I know I speak for a hell of a lot of us.. Peace
Remeber seeing them singleton park in Swansea .amazing live they had bottles and everything thrown at them from Jack's cos they valley band and still played amazing .
Your right but I think this is one of MSP weaker albums.....a lot of second LPs are esp if debut is successful.... The fire, eagerness, spirit can be lacking.... Especially as the label gave them ££££££ and a luxury studio.....MSP are better in a rough studio, deadlines and obstacles..... Not coddled like "Pink floyd" etc...,,
Time for a bit of "Manics" on a Monday. Not heard this track for absolute YEARS. I got a whole lot of Manics on cd quite cheap and I'm working my way through their stuff slowly. Good track.

I love this song so much. People say to me "why? It's so depressing..." No poetry in their bones. Less than 20,000 clicks after all this time? Chronic lack of taste out there...
It's depressing that untalented shite pop industry brats like Billie Eilish gets overrated and wins undeserved plaudits, while genius bands like the Manics go under the radar I love EVERYTHING the MSP release, but I adore La Tristesse Durera, and I love This Is Yesterday. Tbh it's hard to choose, the Manics fucking rock.
Aye he was too good for em anyway. Nicky likes having nice things. Real socialism and all, we all know blue collar, working class representation is owning several luxury fucking dyson's.
This is one of THE GREATEST tunes ever penned. It cannot be lost in time. It deserves to be preserved in amber for generations to learn and grow from
great comment
100% agreed.... can't believe i only recently discovered these guys
Yep!! Fucking fantastic!!
La tristesse durera toujours
One of the most criminally underrated albums ever.
Only by idiots with no taste though. 🤣

Even the Eskimos love this. They just roll right Inuit😂
The lyrics of the Manic Street Preachers are some of the best history lessons you could ask for.

Seeing Richey in the older music videos always brings about a stab of bitter sadness 💔
💔
I know, it’s like ‘oh there’s Richey…oh… .’ 🥲 I just want to put my arms around him.
El único que valia algo 🙏🏻
But then seeing Nicky makes me smile again😊
For me it's the lyrics. It's like his ghost is still there, in that powerful poetry.
I genuinely think this is one of the greatest rock/pop songs ever recorded.
It’s impossible to play this song “too loudly”… Absolutely banging tune!!!
These are lyrics of genius. Almost died many years ago by my own hand manics kept me going
Ah the lonely existence of an American Manics fan.
all the more credit for having that good taste where it is rare
I'm glad I'm not the only one. It sucks to never get a chance to see your favorite band in concert. Maybe I'll take a trip to England someday.
Whyohwhydoineedachannel 😟
A friend of mine in Vancouver loves them!
Your not alone..... you have MSP and everyone else who loves them by your side.... with Richey looking down from heaven with a huge big smile ...
They looked so utterly cool during this era
No band will ever compete with MSP. This song is a masterpiece lyrically and musically.
my favourite all-time, bitter, relatable, lyric. "I sold my medal, it paid a bill" 3:04
True.
This song is like a planetary alignment, everything comes together perfectly. Beautiful piece of songwriting.
That's so well said, beautiful man,🥰
Best review of a song ever 😄
Well, apart from the pronunciation of “durera” 🙂
Had the pleasure of seeing these at Birmingham Odeon in 1986. ( think it was 86 ). Absolutely blew me away . Just brilliant
They only formed in 1986 and they were still in school. Not saying it didn’t happen but possibly a bit later than 1986.

His voice is one of its kind. No one above the amazing James Dean Bradfield!
I've tried singing like him and failed miserably. No idea how he does it!
He equals the great Freddie Mercury imo
Absolute Beginner . hell yes. mercury + jdb both rock legends.

This track is 31 years old this year! Just so you know.
Sadness, never-ending. Never get old😢 What a tune.
If your reading this you also know this is the best band there will ever be !
His voice... seriously, such power!
Classic song. As always The Manics tackle big subjects with comparative ease. Huge respect from a scouser with some Welsh blood in him.
I met JDB back in 1999 in a bar, he was one of the nicest guys, although he still owes me a cigarette.
almostideal I've meet him so down to earth, did you get the JDB hand crush handshake?
Robcatist. Met him at heathrow airport a couple of years ago. Crushing handshake!!
Lol. x
What brand were the cigarettes?
I met JDB in 2002. we talked about shampoo
Absolutely incredible. Gets better with every listen even all these years later. Immense
27 years today since Richie disappeared. Never forgotten x
I worked on this video.
For those who are interested it was filmed in the cemetery in Stoke Newington.
