  • I'm going to renovate the Japanese veranda called “Engawa” this time. Because the floor had just ripped away, I used the cypress flooring from above instead of removing it. Due to the deformation of the threshold, the restoration was pretty tricky.

    It's great to see this work done correctly and with such care. Here in the US the carpenters just rough cut the boards leaving gaps that must then be covered by a molding. There is little craftsmanship.

    Because you keep your tools in such fine condition so that you continually produce such beautiful, skillful work, I would like to see you produce a series of videos showing us how you prepare, sharpen & store all of your tools. I am fascinated o how you use a 'pull' hand plane where we westerners use a 'push' plane, Your method seems to produce far superior results. Your tools & techniques are beyond our western imagination. Please consider if you have not already produce such a series of videos. Great, GREAT work Shoyan, cheers, Don from South Australia.

    I so thought your story about the electrical shock you got as a young person was truly nice to hear and brought a smile on my face .. I am also weary of electric as a timber frame barn builder for 30 yrs I still leave electricity to the electric guys.. as always a great video that I enjoyed.. James

    LOVE that thickness planer and jointer ! It must weigh a ton+ . They don’t really make them as well as when that combo was made . And anything that is close to the same quality is going to cost a fortune . I’m curious what company built yours and how long have you owned it ? I lived in Kyoto for 4 years ‘88-‘92 and I reminisce often . Now it’s Sakura time and I used to live near Tetsugaku No Michi . You do very good work ! Subscribed . Thank You 🙏

    Why is the timber in older traditional houses so much darker than the Hinoki and Sugi you use?

    • @jackmyhre8759
      @jackmyhre8759 Рік тому

      I think it has to do with the wood possibly being old growth lumber. Usually, growth rings are tighter and gives it a darker appearance.

    This has to be first time I see someone using a cordless impact driver / drill correctly
    Just depressing the trigger until the correct depth is reached.
    The vast majority of the people you see on youtube pulse the trigger for some reason. I don't understand why they're doing this
