This has been most helpful. I found this video during a previous Kickstarter campaign. Obviously, I wasn't ready and it failed. Now I am currently planning to launch in November. People are correct you need to have at least three months to prepare! This video gives an awesome checklist and guidelines to follow.

I think there is a lot to be said about the mindset you have going into a crowdfunding campaign. Resilience, the willingness and ability to adapt, and an unwavering belief in the success of he project are super important. Half way through our campaign we had only raised about 6,000 out of 45,000. We decided to create a new video with some major changes and redoubled our campaigning efforts reaching out to schools to do presentations and radio shows that might get us some publicity. Its possible to come back!

I can see how ppl can potentially misunderstand the principles at 4:00. In fact, I would expect quite a few ppl to get them wrong the first time they try to apply them. From a devils advocate p.o.v.: Believe = Delusions ; Target = how do you know you picked the right one? ; Friends = cheap exploitable labor force and/or biased echo chamber. Especially when it comes to crowd funding, the "crowd" is an important factor. How about substitution along these lines: Believe -> Project confidence Target -> Scope and boundaries Friends -> Contacts network

Hey Thomas can you talk about gathering emails. A lot of people saying that we should use facebook and gather emails on the landing page, but there is no specific advice how to do it exactly. It would be a great subject for the video :)

You can do it as a sole proprietor basically individual. Once you start an LLC or corporation you pay taxes for that, which sucks unless you're prepared.
Quinten McLaughlin not exactly. You have to pay taxes on profit ANYWAY, Irregardless of whether you are a sole proprietor, LLC or corporation. If you don’t already have and are running a business, you don’t need anything more than being a sole proprietor. An LLC stands for Limited Liability Company, which is usually used to create a buffer between you personally and your company, but the members of a LLC can be not only a sole proprietor, but a multi-member company, like a partnership or even a corporation. A corporation is a more complex entity and has a lot more requirements and follow-up and best if you expect to make more than 50K in profit. So if your completely new to having any business, it’s best to start simple as an individual and learn as much as possible about what and why people form other business entities such as LLC’s and corporations. Choosing the wrong one can be costly.
