    You'd be surprised how many people in eastern Europe (particularly Ukraine & Russia) bought the Karpiels & similar frames. There was a freeriding movement known as 'Streetetz' that demanded seriously strong equipment, it's where a lot of the old Monster-Ts and Azonic Doublewides went.

    7:53 Shocking. I see what you did there.
    I bet those shocks are filled with SF₆

  • @Metal-Possum
    @Metal-Possum 2 роки тому +2

    The story behind Allen Millyard and his rear shock is that the technology is so old and freely available that nobody could put a patent on it, making it unattractive to the likes of Fox or Rockshox who want to continue selling incremental upgrades and protected IP as part of their competitive nature with other brands.
    Not to mention, major manufacturers do things differently, not just so we can be cynical about it, but also because that's just how some businesses need to operate.

    • @Surestick88
      @Surestick88 2 роки тому +2

      I've always been curious about the design of that shock, especially how the damping is done but there's a dearth of information about how it actually works inside.
      The high pressure gas spring is fairly easy to understand, basically an oleo I imagine, but I'm curious about the damping.
      Based on comments here and there from people that have ridden the thing I'm leaning towards position sensitive orifice damping, possibly using a variable area channel cut into the wall of the oil chamber without any shims or anything. Kind of like a sophisticated recoil damper on a piece of field artillery.
      Watching Allen Millyard's UA-cam channel I get the feeling the mystery surrounding it was him being a bit mischievous if the tech is so well known.
      I guess I could always buy an Intend shock and take it apart but they're a bit rich for my blood.

    I’m a proud owner of a Nicolai Nucleon ST, so I need to put my vote on that one! :) It is super strange to me that they did not include any of the crazy Brooklyn Machine Works projects, you have the TMX with moto seat, the rubber duckie and the Big Link which are ultra extreme FR bikes, just bonkers… and then you have a working 30 foot or so long BMX which would easily be the most extreme bike I have ever seen. It was built for a tv ad or something and it was the size of a school bus and they had to take a team of people to ride it around Brooklyn.
