It's noteworthy, that Finland hasn't ever sent a joke entry. Petri Kurikan Nimipäivät (full of handicapped band members) may seem so, but even that song was send with the intention to win. Many of these songs are radio hits - and older ones, classics - among Finnish people. It tells a lot about our culture, that we genuinely like these songs.

@@АлексейЗаботкин-т1х Well, which ones? If you talk about Finland, Finland doesn't have any.
But if you talk about the other countries...
Norway's 2022 entry comes to mind to me first.

Käärijä Cha Cha Cha is definitely a novelty song

@@GRAHAM2109 It's a novelty song sure but it's not joke entry in that it was fully intended to be a serious entry and not just something we sent as a joke. A lot of Eurovision songs are novelty even for their time but at same time were meant as serious entries.

Hey. I am pretty much thinking the same about Finnish ESC entries. There has been some beautiful songs in the past, but mostly there has been a plenty of overdoing it, and no real vision about e.g. how to make hits. During the recent years there has been a change in UMK and from the beginning it has produced e.g. Softengine, Blind Channel and The Rasmus. Blind Channel's song was awarded as the best song of the year the other year.
However, many good songs has always been rejected like last year's Bess - Rampampam that ultimately became a big hit in Finland. Bigger than Jezebel. Rampampam was also awarded as the song of year like Blind Channel's Dark Side a year before.
More notably in 2000 we almost had our first metal entry to ESC. Jury did not like the song, while televoters (the public) would have sent it to Eurovision. As the ranking system was a bit weird eventually we sent Nina Åström that no one really liked, and not so many remember, but it had most points in Finnish competition. Boring, like you said. That year the public would have sent Nightwish to represent Finland with their song Sleepwalker.

If you wish and have time, you could listen that through and share your ideas what kind of outcome would it have had. Back in the 2000 there was no Within Temptation, Nightwish was not that big, there was no Evanescence. Who knows what the show would have been like, the national final performance on a small stage was not that impressive.

Our entries have suffered from what can best be described as "safe by the book Eurovision entry" syndrome which meant not that many of them stood out, that's why Lordi was such a big deal back in 2006 as it was either by the book nor safe as Eurovision entry. I fact there was protests about Lordi being the Finnish entry, granted it was from conservative people but still.

Yamma, yamma (1992) is a great song.

i think this year they have a good chance to win. I agree the 80's Eurovision was quite weak if you consider what great music there was in that period.

    It wasn't qualified for 1995, 1997, 1999, 2001 and 2003?

As someone who grew up when The Rasmus was cool, their Eurovision entry was very disappointing to me. They have a couple of hits in their prime and I feel like if they would have entered with those back in the day, they would have had a way better chance. This one is just boring compared to their best songs. I don't know how active they were as a band prior to this but they had completely disappeared from mainstream so this was kind of their comeback attempt.
