You chat about meeting people, when my father passed away, the family were amazed at the number of people who attended the funeral, I however was not. My ex Wife and I had taken my Mum and Dad on holiday to Switzerland one year, a place they had both always wanted to visit, halfway up a mountain, we are sitting outside a café eating Rosti, when this man walks up to my Dad and says "Hello Stan" ! We spent the next two hours listening to them reminiscing. When the visitor eventually left, I asked my Dad how he knew him, casually my Dad said, "We shared the same landing craft on D Day" ! They hadn't seen each other in over 40yrs, but talked as if it was only yesterday.

No one should blame you when you give yourself time to mourn. When someone you love, who was such an important part of your life, passes away, that's going to be painful no matter what.
Your editing on this one was fantastic.

600 is so reasonable since you are basically handwelting the shoes. AND creating a painted spade sole! on your point about the thin leather, my cobbler union double monkstraps are amazing shoes. i love them. However, they cut the blind stich pretty shallow and it only took a few wears to begin wearing through at the toe. wish more manufacturers went a little thicker as you do here.

People of today are so used to off-the-rack, mass produced, on the cheap, cookie-cutter clothes and footwear that it just utterly boggles their minds that bespoke handcrafted things are expensive in comparison.
    Beautiful shoes. Great vid.

That's the thing about grief. There are no instructions. Everyone goes through it differently. There are no rules. You take the time you need. You get through the grief and come out the other side stronger. In that strength you can remember your person with fondness instead of sadness.

Great video Steve showcasing great work…..a fantastic work.
You take your own time - your ‘gang’ out here are with you, behind you and supporting you. I think I said before, we’ll still be here.
Some people look and act different when we’ve lost someone. They act like nothing happened when to you a great has happened. A lot of that is down to the fact that they don’t know how to act around you. What should they say? They are a bit self conscious is a lot of it.
We understand and we don’t need you to be ‘normal’ just be you, we’ll understand .
    Shine on.

    Thank you Stephen 😊.
I'm learning from you 😌. I'm never going to repair shoes but it's interesting to see how things are made and remade.
Loss is never easy no matter what kind of loss. I had to place my mom in nursing care. My 25yo son and I are the only one's caring about her. We couldn't handle her dementia anymore. She has been in there now for 2.5 months.
Over the last 6 years we have been here caring for her, her 2 sons may have called a combined number of 15 times. Not each but combined. She was there for them always. Of her 6 siblings, 2 called maybe 5 times; 1 - 2 times; 3 - never. Of her 5 grandchildren, excluding my son, none have called.
Only one of her siblings know she's in a nursing home. I know when she passes even more ugly behavior will happen and her sons will play the blame game and want to know if she left money for them. Her siblings will cry for a day.
There is way more to this but my point is even though it was hard to care for her with her dementia, I miss everyday she's not in her room. And when she is gone that will be the end of my parental family. Mind you, she treated me horrible most of my life, I still tried to get to know her.
It's important to honor those you hold dear even when they pass on. I don't know if you and your brother were close so if you were, maybe there is a way to keep him alive everyday 🤔. Think of something he did that can become his legacy.
My mom never taught me to sew and she was very good at it. So instead when I visit her I do my best by bringing coloring books and water paint so we can do it together.
Thank you Mr. Bedo. I appreciate you sharing your experience with me. It isn't waisted.
    Andrea T.

Daaaaamn. Now there's a good looking pair of custom shoes. Price is fair - the customer is always allowed to refuse right? They know what level of work they're gonna get. Try buying a new pair with this level of quality for $640 - ain't gonna happen.
Thanks for your message too - my dad passed on June 22 of this year, and I feel the same way that you've described. It seems like it's just me that thinks about him now and it feels weird. Appreciated.

I had an aunt that passed away, and she told my mom when she was sick before she died, that she wasn't afraid to die. She just didn't want everyone to forget about her. I never thought about it until she said that. So I agree with you, about how everyone just moves on and a person that was a part of life just isn't here anymore. I think it's good to tell stories and share memories about people that have passed on. Great work on the shoes by the way, you're a craftsman.

I don’t know you personally, but I am in debt with you precisely because in my hard times, you, and others of your brothers in the craft, giving new life to beautiful pieces of art, with your skills on sometimes centuries old methods, bring me a lot of sense, when the existence have to sail in seas of absurdity. So in these hard times for you I ask Heavens for strength, serenity and peace to heal from this blow to your soul that was your loss, and for the good memories of your brother to soothe and comfort you, in the certainty of the privilege of having that beloved human being close to you in your lifetime. I think people deal with loss differently. Some are very hardened to it through work and personal experiences. They also put emotional values on each life. Someone you've been close to decided to take up base jumping. You'd be a fool to expend emotional energy on this person and when they die from said activity, so what.
I don't see death as the end. Having said that, I don't think everyone gets another life. Some aren't worthy. We've just had an article in a big UK newspaper about kids who say they've lived previous lives. Time is key. Great job as usual. Always difficult fined original comments on perfection. 👍

I know just what you mean, after the funeral is over there is a hole in your life it seems like something should be happening but there is just normalcy, doesn't seem right. So good you had a break and as usual love your videos.

I hear you loud and clear Steve. I lost my best friend of 40 years about 4 years ago. That was the hardest thing I've had to face. I had to be strong for for his wife/kids, running to the hospital at a moment's notice when he had set-backs. Then after he passed, I'm left with no one to lean on to process through my grief. It's been a real struggle. I see others' who have their loved ones to bolster them. I've had only my faith to see me through. Life doesn't just go on.
Beautiful job on those shoes Steve.

I like this kind of new editing,I love the old videos because I love massive amounts of detail, not going to lie I look for the longest videos to watch, but it’s almost a fresh look for Steve. But I’ll watch Steve now, and 3 years ago and be just as happy with the content. I don’t like it how everyone seems to have a negative opinion, or try to call him out. It’s heartbreaking. Great job Steve as always, you’re a master at what you do, and you have a lot of people who are grateful for you.

you’re a good man steve, i have an obsession with learning things, and learning them thoroughly, specially from a person obsessed with them, been watching your vids for a couple of years now, i have no intention to ever disassemble or repair a pair of shoes, but i have a very deep appreciation now when i see a real nice pair of shoes on someone, thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge and your passion, it goes a very long way

Great work Steve. I know after my mom died, it was hard to get back into the swing of life. You’ll get there with the help of family and your passion for what you do. Great repair, true art.

I gotta say I like the "Before" a whole lot better than the "After"!

Happy to have you back. The work you do is mesmerizing. I always love the end results. Also following your videos I learned so much. Thank you for keeping this art alive and teaching it to others!
Your videos are also better and better. Better light, better sound, better close-ups, adding the background music is cool too. Can't wait for the next video.
Loosing a dear one is always hard and as you said, loved ones never forget. I am really sorry for your loss! They will not be forgotten. I lost my father 10 years ago and every November I am a mess around the date of his death.

Steveroo looks like another work of art... Beautiful looking...! SHARP!...PS.. Glad you give the prices out, as one will know what a very meticulous job like this cost.... It's the customer that makes the decision and for some, money is no object to get what he or she wants and will make them happy... GG
