The work on the wood is simply beautiful if it is stained using good oil or water-based stain and top coated with poly would look supreme. The point to note here is Indian Teak on an average is INR 5000 ish / cubic feet and Old Burma and good quality south Indian Rosewood can well exceed 8000/cu ft whereas African teak can be sourced as low as INR 800 to 1000 / cubic feet and same goes for low quality Shisham. The amount of wood used here at an average is approx. 8 - 10 cu ft for the living room set i.e., 40 to 50 k wort wood itself, So its possibly some African Teak or very low-quality teak. There is a tendency to buy exquisite but cheap hence these skilled workers have to tend to the markets by using a lesser quality raw wood to cater to the demand supply chain. The average Indian customer doesn’t understand wood and get excited when they hear Shisham or Teak without understanding what is being supplied actually. Shisham furniture on the other hand is in great demand, however if you look closely at what is being sold in the name of Shisham over 90% furniture made out of Shisham offline or online use less than 40 - 50 % heart wood hence are able to sell at such low price. There are many renowned furniture manufacturers in India who use very high-quality teak and Shisham but are very expensive. We as the average Indian customer could also try Oak, White Ash, Maple Beech which are quite durable especially white Oak, all these types of wood finish beautifully and you will see furniture made by these species in houses of very affluent people in the Americas and Europe. They are half the price of A grade Teak and Shisham. Just my two cents!
