When I first started sim racing I chose a random car and a random track which happened to be this combination. It was the worst start to anyones sim racing progress
Yeah, Drove this a couple of days ago while before having not raced for 2 weerks or smth. at first i thought do i really suck that much ? and then tried another car and it felt like i was glued to the tarmac.
I had a similar experience. I picked the Shelby Cobra at the Trento-Bondone hill climb. It was a frustrating disaster.
@@trevor_1963 i know what you mean
Quit calling it "sim racing".
Its a fuckin video game.
@@robspear03 "quit calling it a banana. Its a fuckin fruit!"
Ruf makes some fantastic cars. I had the privilege of sitting down and chatting with Alois Ruf a few years back (2009, so perhaps more than a few) and suffice it to say, the man knows his stuff. The doctor I worked for at the time was a personal friend of his, and while I can't go into too much detail, he had flown over from Germany to visit him. Years prior, he had gifted a custom CTR Yellowbird to said doctor, who with a crippling issue with his left leg was unable to use a clutch pedal. Alois had developed a system of servos around the actual shifter that ultimately lead to the clutch master cylinder, as a result did all of the work for the driver when the shifter was moved into and out of position. Really sophisticated setup. Humble guy with a passion for engineering. At the time the 2011 RGT8 hadn't yet been announced/publicly released but he had a number of media brochures in his briefcase for said car. After our conversation, Alois signed and dedicated it to me personally and to this day it still hangs in my garage.
Lucky
That's so cool!
Wow that is so awesome man
dude that is the most amazing enginuity story I've ever heard!!! some people are just born to build cars
Thanks for sharing the story.
No wonder it's a difficult car to drive, with that vibrating rear wheel lol
Over active suspension. LOL
Nice tyre physics lol
Realistic enough. 1980 tires were crap. The Lamborghini Miura had some really thick tires and still struggled to grip
Wheel trying to escape
@@MrAnimal1971 it needs it if you go to soft its a disaster in every corner
That detail of commentary whilst driving. 😊 I definitely see why Polyphony invited you on the FIA GT circuit. Get thus guy on Top Gear, reminds me of the Hamster.
Reminds me of the future of motorsport commentary and online racing.....natural talent at both
I don't mind Jimmy on Top Gear he's as James says, a proper bloke.
Would be great to see how his sim skills translate in real life.
I tried the yellow bird once in GT4. I didn’t even complete a lap, and never tried it again. So I know how hard you worked. You’ve shown me something I never managed in GT4, a whole lap of any track in a Yellow Bird. You deserve a medal.
Yeah the thing doesn't slow down even with racing brakes fitted
I've been working on it. Set brake distribution +2 to the rear. Give it at least -2 toe out up front. Brake early, power out, use the lift off oversteer.
@@Eatinbritches what about tire pressure how do you manage front and back?
I remember driving the CTR2 on GT5 in the PS3. Such a fun car to drive
When this car was released for AC I had the habbit to lap the Nordschleife with it every day, I just couldn't stop! Great stuff
Dookie guckt also good old punterino Jimmer :-) Nice!
Was? Dookie?! Du, hier?! :D
That's only because this car just can drift alone and desperately needs a Dookie for that job >:D
Damals war die Karre auch noch geil.
@@ActionMacaque Well he did race Jimmer and I remember his wheel came off during the race xD
Is it as hard as the lotus around the top gear test track on gt5?
Probably not
WTF are you doing on this channel
You watch Jimmy?
lol the heck you watch jimmy- wait you play sim games.....you should totally post some content like that
Nothing in Gt5 is hard.
This thing is deadly. I've played a fairly well recreated version of this car in a few different games (non-sim) that were able to properly recreate the suspension geometry and weight of the engine in the rear, and I can say that they're incredibly tail-happy and when it isn't, you're wrestling it.
Also, the Yellowbird is one of my favorite cars, interesting this video was uploaded on my birthday.
It’s not that tail happy when you drive it properly, Jimmy here is just pushing it in the corners to impress people, but if you drive carefully without trying to drift it you can be way faster than what he did .
Aw the yellowbird is so excited that the rear left tire is jumping of joy
The Faszination video has been one of my favorite watches for almost twenty years now. I get the feeling that he was pitching it around like he was because the car was easier to control if you initiated a burnout-oversteer situation instead of cornering normally and risking understeer turning into snap oversteer. Your video seems to prove this! Great fun to watch
Jimmy said that 400 HP feels like too much horsepower for the Yellowbird, wait until you see the amount of horsepower that Blackbird has.
Initial d style talking about wangan midnight
Ironic
700hp and 1100kg by the final episode, danm
seven fucking hundred lol
My t-shirt is slightly too tight. Are you cosplaying Matt from wtf1?
1980s hypercar. It probably made more than the officially quoted 469 horsepower. I guess it's more like 500 to 510.
That car is the true widowmaker. So hard to control but very cool at the same time. A true legend.
The video of the guy lapping the nurburgring IRL with this car is one hell of a ride 😊 Must be crazy enough in VR !
This was one of my fav cars in gt4, had to drive it aggressively and steer it from the rear as the front doesn't like to turn in, once it starts to turn in, mash the throttle and hold on for dear life as it trys to put you in the wall... Awesome car
I used to hate watching VR videos but over the past couple of months I've found these to be probably even more exciting to watch than a normal video, especially with these hot lap videos. The movement of your head with the work your arms and feet are putting in really give you a sense of involvement within the car. Great stuff as always Jimmy. Superb :)
People have no idea what the 911`s are like to drive from 70's to 80's era, I haven't personally had the pleasure to drive ruf's or highly tuned 911's from that era but would love to do so. The 74 carrera targa that I drove, had been tuned slighty to go into 200+ horsepower was allready terrifying when you accelerated on the exit of a curve, immediately wanted to take you to nearest pine tree or a ditch. Lovely to drive and the feeling of the control that transfers to you thru steering wheel and pedals is something you need to experience, but you need to remember to respect the car and it's physics, and to know your own limits, otherwise you will get injured or killed. Great video Jimmy! Keep up the good work.
I still don’t own a wheel, driving this with the D-pad is a guaranteed Parkinson syndrome for a week
Driving a throttle sensitive and weight sensitive car is pure wrist cramp simulator
Im a keyboard racer. Imagine that. *terrible*
What's wrong with ur pfp
@@MmeHyraelle i wouldn’t even try ahahah
kinda wish you made a playlist with all of your X vs Nordschleife videos.
@thecouchtripper Yes, but if Jimmer would've done it from the start, it would've been super easy for him. I'd have to skim through a ton of videos and manually add each one. It also doesn't help that some of the videos don't include the car name or Nordschleife in the video title, so searching it wouldn't work.
I gave this combo a try the other day and it's a blast. You feel EVERYTHING on the street tires, honestly one of the most fun and exciting experiences I've had in the game.
Brilliant video. Great driving lad. Nice to see one of my icons being chucked around the Nord
Came back to find this after someone played the intro over the mic in a UA-camr Wreckfest stream tonight, totally forgot about this 😂😂
One of my favorite cars in AC. Never a dull moment in a RUF !
I know it may seem a bit 'boring' but could you do a lap in the Superior Tractor to see how it puts up against Porker and the L O N G E S T B O Y E
Pastor Maldonado long live The L O N G B O Y E my friend
「Exclusive Coupé」for the intro
nice
The best choice.
Nice

I see you get the same UA-cam recommendations as I do! Had that Yellowbird video come up just a few days ago...and now this appears.
The Yellowbird is a terrifying beast. It WANTS to kill you. I love it!
Just twin mill her
Yeah, I remember this car. I constantly kept overshooting corners and going off track in gt4.
GTA Trivia: One year after Vice City, Tommy Vercetti bought one of these and splatted himself against a wall first time out.
I‘am just imagining him as a footballplayer on field and while hes running hes just commentating the game for TV
*"Faszination on the Nürburgring, with the RUF CTR"*
Anyone else wouldnt mind seein' a TV view replay after the onboard sometimes.??...see that back end step out!!
Terrific driving! Tried it myself a few days ago - just slighty over the 8 minute mark. (I'm by no means a drifting expert, so I had to play it safe.)
To everyone who is constantly spinning and crashing I highly recommend trying the Yellowbird with just 10 % turbo and working up until 100 %. I'm at 60 % now and still learning. But it's getting better every day.
i love driving it, with the vintage street tire, boost at 100% and just having fun in a good car on a good track
Love these Nordschleife videos Jimmy, we need more cars like this. None of this downforce bollocks, that's too easy! H-pattern rules! ;)
Myrone's "Exclusive Coupé" for an intro song? Jimmy, dear boy, I did not realise how much more I could love you
the first song used in the background is just amazing, love Exclusive coupé
The video of the real onboard is ridiculous. No helmet, no gloves... Big balled boiiii
Yeah, one of my favorites, when it comes to driving crazy stuff in AC, too :D
I highly recommend peeps watching the real life vid, i just did, and boy, Jimmy is not lying steering wheel looks like it could be steering a boat, CONSTANTLY correcting even at slow speed, the driver really is on the edge of spinning and meeting a wall pretty much all through out, Great video jimmy and great link too
Thicc Brit wrestles 31 year old unruly German 'bird. 😂
Merry Christmas Jimmer. Great video as usual, think you just demonstrated steering a car on the throttle quite well. 😀
Ruf In The Jungle Bizness (upshifting sideways remix)
Legendary car, can remember first time driving this in Gran Turismo 👍 yeehaaw 👍🍻
Your footwork is mesmerising here Jimmy!
I laugh maniacally every time I drive this car in Assetto. Glad to see it here.
Acidicheartburn1 haha me2 like litte girl
RUF actually isn't just a tuning company. They're in fact an actual manufacturer as they make cars from the ground up, just referencing Porsche's design. At least since the Yellow Bird.
I love that car played 45 hours with it, its a workout but its really fast once you get the hang of it
Spooky ROOF sliding in Jommer's intro. WOOOOOOOOOO!!
Fun video, great commentary. I remember when the Yellowbird was introduced and seeing VHS tapes of that famous ring run. Simulated, it looks just as crazy. Thanks for the entertainment.
I was pretty impressed, the guy in the clip unlike you did not wear oven gloves and a blindfold, could you do the next one with wellington boots on that would be ace.
it looks like he is playing DIRT when you look just at the steering
How about the Viper ACR? I wonder if you could go sub-7 with it
Your voice sounds like the official commentator of F1
One of the best laps I saw you make at the Nords. Congrats, man! :D
I remember driving this car and the 427 Cobra around the Nordschleife with all the driving aids turned off in GT4. So difficult and so fun. I think the 427 Cobra was maybe tougher. (It's been a while.)
Watching the old video, it looks like the driver of the Yellow Bird is throwing the car a bit sideways into most of the turns. He'll give a quick turn of the wheel, almost like a Scandinavian Flick, but without the initial turn away from the upcoming corner, and then balance the car on throttle and steering all through the bend. I suspect he's doing this to help slow down, all those tires sliding at an angle to the intended path scrubbing off speed, as well as to get the car rotated around in the desired direction. And he's often countersteering like a madman on meth on the way out of the corners. That would be MUCH easier to judge in person than in a game--even with VR--of course, due to the G-forces on the seat of your pants.
Nice job not putting it in the ditch. I lost count of how many times I crashed that car on GT4. Felt like a hero when I finally started making it regularly, though.
9:09 Or this happeeEEeeEEEnnss!!! Nice rock n roll skills!!
The 930 is one of my favourite cars of all time but I know I'd snap oversteer myself into a ditch if I ever owned a car that didn't have its engine in the front.
I always thought I sucked in GT3 for saying that this car was hard to drive (it barely steered, but had immense speed!), but now I can see that I ain't the only one hahaha.
great video as always Jimmy!
The yellowbird is in wangan midnight as "Blackbird".
You need too run the 427 cobra around there . To see how they compare too each other if you haven't yet. Definitely a handful in all sim games it's been in.
One of the coolest cars ever made.
I like how you post the Nordschleife challenge stats as soon as you finish the lap.
Had some trouble with it since I hadn’t changed the ”virtual wheel rotation limit” after I set that to 1080° this car has become the most fun one in the entire game, so much fun drifting it around the ring
Once you get the hang of it tho this car is amazing around nords heaps of fun
My favorite Car of all time, my favorite racing track, and my favorite sim racing youtube, an incredible video.
I agree, driving this car is one of the most difficult things in the world... once I raced this car against other with this same car and at the end of the race they were 2 of us left with a car in one piece, all the others retired
"I have no idea what this will be like" "you have to tap the brakes at the crest or you'll go off the track" - Illuminati confirmed
Jimmy this was an awesome video! It would be really cool to see other older cars go around the ring as well... Maybe something like a Ferrari F40?
There is no better commentator for this sort of stuff than Sir Jimmer here.. just brilliant!
I've yet to play any racing sim or racing game where the Yellowbird wasn't nearly impossible to drive. Love it!
Fantastic video man! Such a finicky and hard car to master.
That wheels freakin the hell out haha like LEMME GO FAST CMON LETS GOOOOOO
Your commentary is awesome! Great driving, great footwork, really enjoyed watching the whole thing.
Liked and subbed!
Watching this just goes to show what kind of boss Stephan Roser was.
It’s cars like this that made me fall in love with sim racing.
Great vid Jimmers
those "twitchy" tires XD , that car is totally excited to drive on the Nürburgring XDD
My step father has the Ruf BTR , witch is the same car just with one turbo, it’s such an amazing car and the turbo punch is insane
Do a Assetto vs Real Life series man.
Try to get as close or get past records of recent car records round the ring.
This should be some fun ass content.
The commentary on this was fantastic.
speaking of old cars, would love to see you lap the mclaren F1 round the ring
POWER!!!!!! Love the jezza thumbnail.
back in 2009 i drove a fully built 997 gt3 at a track event.....and my whole body hurt from the G-forces. i had to get a hotel, was to tired to drive 3 Hours home They are savage.
A hard car is the equivalent of having fun, i love this car so much I would give everything to have it even for one day
FINALYY JIMMY! you found that best off beast! I watched your battle couple times, damn good fight!
Very well done. Wasnt the real time like 8:11. Your time matched the GTRs real time too I think.
It would be cool to see you do these laps in other older cars with questionable handling that have been modified to go even faster by aftermarket tuners such as Yenko and SLP Camaros, Lingenfelter Corvettes and Saleen Mustangs.
Jimmer, i think the best thing can happen to F1 nowadays is to have you presenting the tracks, real tracks and in the Codemasters' game. Can we all please send a mail to FOM asking for Jimmy there? That'll be great. And i'm bloody serious.
Very cool lap. Byy the way the second Karussel is called Schwalbenschwanz which is a big yellow butterfly
Best touge car, lift off oversteer for the best turn in
Your driving with commentary is just amazing honestly
Dude your pedal managment is amazing. your heel&toe is awesome
I like how the screen is reflected in your silver play button :)
This is my favorite car in AC SRP. At first i was like there's no way to control it. Now I'm beating people on it
I love this classic 911.
Reminds me of the video where Stephan Rozer drove a yellowbird on the nurburgring. That guy had balls of steel.
I always got along with this car. Drive it with throttle and weight transfer, rather than steering. It's awesome, and a great lap Jimmer.
Fantastic Footwork, buddy!
I agree that this car is most difficult and most exciting at the same time. Btw it less nervous when it has good setup
I used to manage turbo while race, because there is very very powerful turbo. And also suspension should be carefully tested and setted up before using this car in online
I'd never even heard of these Ruf cars until I joined a race in Assetto using them. I couldn't even keep it on the track. Felt like a total beginner. After I turned the turbo all the way down I was able to get a handle on it and slowly turn it back up in increments.
