- How to replace the Center Armrest upper Clip/Latch on 2009 Hyundai Sonata.
A useful tool that can be used in tight spaces for an application like this is this special screwdriver, available at this link:

Here is a link to a source for the latch part:

How do you get the back 2 screws out? My screwdriver cannot get on it flush?
Thanks man. I took the 4 screws out and nothing moved and i was about to start deconstructing the entire armrest but then i thought twice. “There’s probably a tutorial on UA-cam that’ll show me how to do this” and voilà!!! Your video was here! I’m kinda surprised u didn’t go ahead and edit out the part when you were fumbling with the spring/latch since you already broke out the editing function to figure the thing out. LOL anyway thanks!
You're doing the Lord's work! For real I spent 6 months with the parts and no clue how to do that
Thank you for posting this video. I just finished replacing both the upper and lower latches. The video gave me a lot of confidence in tackling the task. I would recommend moving both front seats up all the way and working on this from the back seat. It sure made it a lot easier for me. I just saved myself a lot of money! Yay!! More dollars for facial fillers! My new thing.
That struggle with the latch was so great! 🤣 glad you finally got it in there!
Thanks for this video! I needed to see what to do after removing the 4 screws. I guessed I would need to pry tool but wanted to make sure before I started jamming things in there.
Thank God! I could not find a video that showed which way to replace the springs anywhere! Thank you for posting.
Was confused on spring placement in my 2009 kia optima. This showed me exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!
How to remove and fix the lower screws? Any screwdriver will not reach them?
Same here as well 😢
Wait, how did u took out of he 4 screws out? Those down there dows NOT look like an easy task!
Thank you Big Bo, after watching your video I was able to order and replace the latch easily!!!!👍
The best one that explained how do it, thanx sir
Thank you so much you made my day
Thank you. I was able to do for Kia Sportage with this reference.
What's not shown here at clip 2:40 just before he close the armrest lid, is that some 2009 Sonata GLS model (mine) has another piece of plastic cover that has screw hole in order to keep the replacement part and spring in place.. that piece of plastic needs to be put in and screwed back in place for the latch to properly work. Still thank you for this excellent video.
Thank you!
Appreciate this walkthrough. I wish that I could find the latch for my 2013 Kia Rio. I have reached a deadend with online searching, so it's either get a new armrest, search a junkyard or leave it broken.
Would this part fit a 2013 sonata upper armrest
Thanks for the info, I spend w hours trying to put it with out the spring xD
FANTASIC! I fixed my son's upper latch, watching your video. Do have any videos replace the bottom latch?
Where could I get a spring for this?
Do you have a video on how to replace top part of front arm rest.
Thanks a lot it helps me a lot but I don’t find the springs I have ordered through Hyundai website please guide me about the spring
Thank you so much.
Thank you so much
my good sir! i hope you see this. I bought the clips, can’t seem to find the spring mechanism anywhere!!
Do you have a link to the specific spring mechanism i need for this 2009 hyundai sonata?
Where did you order the replacement clips from?
I have a Kia Optima. Can’t find a video for this. It looks similar but I only see two screws at the bottom near the hinge. Does anyone know how to open the top half in this case?
The link of this product. Please 🙏🙏
Does the bottom latch replacement work the same way? And do you by chance have a link to a replacement part for that too?
I’m trying to replace the bottom latch too. Having more trouble than I anticipated.
It works the same way. I was able to replace it using this video. The only difference is there is a piece that hold the spring into place that you have to unscrew
Do you know how to change the ENTIRE armrest? Thanks! Need to do so for 2004 hyundai sante fe.
Here's a video taking out the entire armrest while researching for this topic: ua-cam.com/video/47QqlE3MYIs/v-deo.html
@@jeffc412 i figured this out but thanks for the vid boss
Installed quickly and correctly ...but the part with the hook is Too Short and will not lock into the base ????
I BOUGHT THE PART BUT I NEED THE SPRING AND CANT FIND IT PLEASE HELP ME FIND THE SPRING
I’m late but I ordered mine from the Hyundai parts website
Just type in armrest springs
Dealership had all four parts $19, now to find a pry tool lol
Well now the lower latch broke but I suppose I will have to brave through without a video!
This is what I came looking for too, with no avail. One can only assume it removes the same way
@@neryhernandez8275 IIRC the lower latch is a bit more involved accessing the latch. Once you're in there, its almost identical, if not exactly like replacing the top latch. UA-cam def has the lower latch video, u just have to feed the search engine the magic words
Thanks! now I know I can do it myself. Maybe without cussing?
How did you get the bottom screws out and back in ?
Use a long phillips head screwdriver while pushing the console back as far as possible
@@bigbo8495 Thanks, that worked well. But the brackets holding it in are broken. Going to try superglue...hope it works !
@@bigbo8495 Do you know where I can get the springs i bought the car used
@@boruchberger5970 Use the existing springs from the old latch.Look down at the bottom of the console, that's where mine fell. My new latch did not come with the spring.
@@boruchberger5970 You will have to buy the whole clip latch set that includes the spring. Though the old one may have fallen inside the cover so check inside when you open it.
Thanks a bunch (づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ
jesus christ did u have 2 cups of coffee LMAO
he didn't do anything!
You need to watch the entire video.
