It’s funny because right after this game I was thinking to myself how wildly inconsistent the sharks have been lately. I think the playoff race for some of these teams is definitely a factor, could also be some fatigue setting in as well. Middle of the season, no real playoff hopes, probably hard to stay super motivated every night. That being said the Blue Jackets came to play tonight. They were absolutely swarming all game and made it basically impossible for the sharks to get established at any point. You also nailed it with the defense. Until this team gets at least 2-3 more dmen that can actually do something with the puck the forwards are really going to be under a lot of pressure. Liked seeing Smith get the bump. Hope he starts next game there as I think Grandlund and Zetts could be a much better fit for his play style. Hope Kovelenko comes back soon too, he’s been pretty solid in the top 9. Definitely disappointed with the effort tonight but not too mad because I actually really want to see Columbus make the playoffs.
That’s why I’m still looking for Schaefer as the Shark’s pick. Maybe even try to pick up Nemec, who seems to be in play. I think a line of Kovalenko-Wennberg-Graf could be interesting once he’s healthy.
@ I could see that working. You’re talking about Simon Nemec of the devils right? I thought I saw something about him being unhappy with NJ. I’d definitely take that pickup in a heartbeat
Great analysis of the game! I know he is a rookie NHL head coach but how do you feel about Warsofsky so far? I’m thinking about a b or b- is that a little harsh?
Hey Professor, Another tough loss. I do feel like Granlund is in part struggling because Coach Wars keeps juggling his line mates. Right now Granlund is working Zetterlund who he does know but, the other forward is just not in synch. While I like Zetterlund he is a hard worker but, his game seems better suited a 3rd line role? Zetterlund just doesn't have much ability to aid Granlund like Eklund did. I am hopeful that when Kostin or the other injured /Russion will be able to slot in next to Granlund and at least help him a little. It just seems like the margin for error with this version of the Sharks is very slight. I think Georgiev is getting the playing time because the Sharks are hooping to rehabilitate his game so that he or Vanicheck can be trade bait at the deadline. Either way its tough when our guys strugggle to find any flow in their game. Pete Clovis, CA
I think on a really good team, Zetterlund is probably a third liner, but I'd say he is serviceable in a second line role, and at this point I would consider the Granlund trio the second line. There is some truth to the line combinations changes affecting him, as it has all the Sharks this season, but at the same time, even with the Lund line recently, he hasn't been at his best.
Thanks Professor! I continue to be surprised by Georgiev, he does have some skill after all. Who do you think would be a better fit for the 71/72 line, Graf, Smith or Cardwell?
Too many fans stuck with the ‘hot hand fallacy” on Granlund on wanting to keep him, he struggled mightily out of the gate last year too. He’s going to have stretches of poor play, and he’ll command a 6.25 x 4 or more. His ceiling has minimal room to grow, but there’s lots of room for his floor to drop off. Just today rumblings began of Nemecs availability, and sharks can’t compete without more assets or losing a top 3 guy. If you can get a 1st, Grier should do it ASAP. Also, only 5 teams considered 100% buyers even have a 1st to offer… most contenders don’t have one
I understand the sentiment of not wanting to trade your only player in the 4nations roster before the tourney, but need to be thinking long term. If a quality deal is available, Grier should pull the trigger.
I stopped watching after that second goal. Ferraro\Lilj need to show some poise. Ferraro was lucky enough to win the initial corner battle because of a rolling puck only to get beat by the forechecker because he was watching his pass instead of moving his feet into good body position to protect his puck. Liljegren needs to make a heads-up-up-ice play here and not try to catch the puck flat-footed and in an attacker's lane. Just let Ferraro's pass go to the boards. Take defensive body position, like your playing keep away, between the forechecker and the puck and look for a play up-ice and out of our zone.
I think that’s a fair assessment, but at the same time we do have the benefit of hindsight here. 99 times out of 100, Liljegren catches that pass and it’s a forgettable moment of the game. So while there are things they could have done differently, we are only discussing it because things went wrong if that makes sense.
@@professorhockey Agreed. I'd like to see our defense make better choices in high pressure situations around the puck to reduce bad chances from happening. When our D do this, Fourgiev becomes Threegiev, and sometimes Twogiev. It's been a difficult several years for the organization, but this group has great potential.
Love the fresh cut professor!
Haha thanks!
Yeah its lookin clean
@professorhockey very fresh, but it’s all about the flow 🥬
solid analysis as per usual
Bad game.. but great analysis! You're the highlight, bud. 👏

Also Celebrini got a point. Can at least stay in the race for Calder if we can't stay in the race for anything else.

I think it might even be a little lower than that in my opinion.

If I had to choose only one of those 3 right now, probably Graf
@@professorhockey OK then, out of ALL the Sharks forwards, who do you think would be the best fit?
The Vlasic undefeated streak comes to an end...
😭
poor, poor pickles...

Horrible game, don't even have it in me to watch the recap but I respect your dedication
Fair enough haha
