The first time I heard this song was in the forum in Waterford I think it was 2002 Christy Moore, I remember it was a very spiritual, and i became very moved by it, about 5 years later my wife bought me a book for Christmas written by Christy, it's amazing he speaks about that night in the forum he said he had a very spiritual experience. I felt that too, I think I would struggle to tell you what the song about, but it is special, Jimmy McCarthy you are a modern-day genius
I love the way he leaves it to the last line to reveal the song is really about Christ. Such a well constructed song. He should sent it to country agents in USA, one of those country artists would snap it up, especially those with a Christian leaning..
Christ cuck, though. Worshipping a dead rabbi deceiver into the j e w i s h end times isn't a good look. Admitting you've been conned by your chosen people into their death cult isn't easy, I know.
I grew up with Jimmy McCarthy‘s music my favourite was Adam at the window at the moment I’m learning bright blue rose my brother has a recording studio in his attic just a small thing and my family want to record this just something to remember but yes Jim McCarty all the way
X I have been learning the song for the last few weeks because my brother is trying to record this but this is the best version Jimmy McCarthy you are an amazing
The man is outstanding,,,,best show I have ever seen was in Opera House about 1999,,,I have seen shows all over the world but none as good as Jimmy Mac
The Bright Blue Rose is not only an astonishingly beautiful song....It is actually a PRAYER. "She" being the Virgin Mary. And Jimmy desribed in astonishing clarity the Immaculate Conception by what can only be called GENIUS.
As Jimmy himself said, it can be whatever the listener believes it to be. That's what makes a song special if it resonates with you, then that resonance is your connection to that song.
I skimmed across black water, without once submerging Onto the banks of an urban morning That hungers the first light, much much more Than mountains ever do. And she like a ghost beside me, goes down with the ease of a dolphin And emerges unlearned, unshamed, unharmed For she is the perfect creature, natural in every feature And I am the geek with the alchemists' stone. For all of you who must discover, For all who seek to understand, For having left the path of others You find a very special hand. And it is a holy thing, and it is a precious time And it is the only way Forget-me-nots among the snow, it's always been and so it goes To ponder his death and his life eternally. For all of you who must discover For all who seek to understand, For having left the path of others You find a very special hand. And it is a holy thing And it is a precious time And it is the only way Forget-me-nots among the snow, it's always been and so it goes To ponder his death and his life eternally. One bright blue rose outlives all those Two thousand years and still it goes To ponder his death and his life eternally.
I once knew a guy who sang in a folk band..."and I am the geek with the alchemy zone"...no matter how many times I told him the correct lyrics he wouldn't listen....go Neill.....
Awesome video, definitely the best version I have heard. Jimmy MacCarthy does not sing all his songs as well as the artists who recorded his songs, but this one is an exception
I notice Jimmy says “Awakens unlearned unshamed unharmed”, but every other artist says “emerges unlearned unshamed unharmed” such a pity to change his words.
It is about avoiding evil, about Mary her eyes like blue flowers in the snow and realising she is a blue rose, a flower that doesn't exist on earth but is uniquely beautiful.
@mikefromireland Just watch in Bright Blue Roses- Christy Moore (3/23), and you will see Jim singing it, as well as listen. It´s in the only place. You´ll love ti.
The song is, in fact, a prayer. As for Belfastneil, you are severely misguided and have my empathy. Those like you lack comprehension of Truth, such as the Immaculate Conception. YOu try to apply reason to everything. But with God, Jesus, Mary, and the Holy Spirit, reason does not apply--only Faith, a truly incredible and magnificent gift that atheists lack and will therefore never thrive spiritually. And, by the way, God is always spelled with a capital G. yOu are in my prayers now.
I don’t believe in the Mary or Jesus story I think it’s all bullshit, but I understand the story is used as a higher power or crutch to some people. But I do believe this is a great song..
Beautiful song, great voice. One of Ireland's best musicians

Jimmy says it so well!
I notice Jimmy says “Awakens unlearned unshamed unharmed”, but every other artist says “emerges unlearned unshamed unharmed” such a pity to change his words.
best
As an outsider (that is not Irish lol) I genuinely think this song is about an alcohol and its effects on humanity! My thoughts
Faith and fear.
It is about avoiding evil, about Mary her eyes like blue flowers in the snow and realising she is a blue rose, a flower that doesn't exist on earth but is uniquely beautiful.

Just found out im related to this guy-
