I remember seeing this truck when I was like 11 years old in a copy of some 4WD magazine. I thought it was cool as hell then, and I still think the same thing now. Good to hear it's still on the road. Not too overdone or gaudy. Keep it up guys.
@juan92r Thanks for your feed back. I have owned 52 vehicles and I have had the best luck with my Dodges. My Dodge Tow rigs have clocked over 280K each with repairs less that $500 each over their life span. This T-Rex is all stock except for the axles and control arms. It has 140K of the worst mileage any truck should have. Been under water 7 times, in the rocks, mud, snow, still going strong. Not one failure of a stock part.
I have to say you have my favorite truck!!! Ever since I saw it in top truck challenge I always loved it and still do. That is really cool you got sponsored by Dodge. I have a 2001 Ram sport now but don't think I will be doing whats done to your truck for a long time! haha
Pinion brakes do stop well, and can even be a bit grabby. Their downfall is heat build up that is transfered into the center chunk and the seals will get hot and leak.
No upgrades, it is mostly stock outside of the supension and axles. That was the point. we were sponsored by Dodge to show how tought these trucks are. 148K miles in the owrst conditions over 11 years and still no failure of the stock truck components.
Yes I have meet the Crow vic guy in Moab. He sticks to the slick rock trails and uses the bypass on the steep / difficult obstacles. So yes he is on the same trail, no he can not do the large obstacles. On the trail you see him on "Hells Revenge" you find all sorts of stock jeeps, SUV, RAV 4s, Susuki sidekicks, 2wd dune buggies, etc... But they can use the bypasses for the difficult obstacles. YOu will not find these rigs or cars on trails where there is no bypass, like "Pritchett Canyon"
I'm guessing this thing scrubs pretty good in the turns... Whats the turning radius? Ever consider 6 wheel steering? Very impressive how those rear 2 axles are independant of eachother... was the driveshaft angle between those two the determining factor for suspension travel?
I always wondered what is the advantage of having only one brake per axle in highly modified 4x4s. How can one relatively small brake handle all the braking power for the whole axle? I´m amazed when I see monster trucks braking hard and only seeng this tiny disc almost catching fire in the front axle.
AWESOME!! I was thinking about building a '72 international 1110 4x4,and installing a tandem axle set-up,but discouraged by the $70,000.00 estimated price tag! I want to put a '48 IHC KB5 cab and front clip on it,but will probably need to use a 2-ton frame, for strength, plus the added length needed for an extra axle. Where did you find/purchase your axles?? Walking-Beam suspension?? THANKS!!
Dodge are the best. Powerd by Cummins i hope? i dont really like the 6X6 config thoe. or the green. What are the shaft brakes for? dose it still have brakes behind the wheels?
@TheDeathCrawler A lot of people have said that very thing and we showed up at sveral rock crawling events and we were laughed at by all the guys in the buggies.... until we took first place. lol. Yes it could be better, and we are building a 6x6 buggie that will be lighter and more manuverable. 6x6 gives you so much more traction and floatation that there is not much to hang up on. Like a centipede. But this truck is really just a street legal family trail machine that excells offr
@Warn02 Yes it was, and it has been in the background of Top Truck Challenge every year since then. We use the T-Rex to pull the stuck and dead rigs out of the tank trap.
they didnt....in fact there were only 2 prototypes actually built. this is a custom build and he even took it to the top truck challenge and competed with it one year.
Oh yes it goes places that would scare most. On one obstacle we were the only vehicle to make it up, 4x4 trucks, buggies, and jeeps could not climb it. However, it does have its draw backs, it is large and doesn't fit everywhere, and turning radius is a challenge.
@flight110 not really its a proven fact that that set-up has more stopping power then the reuglar set-up, it makes more sense actually. stop it at the diff then having to stop big tires
John Godwin and I built the T-Rex with sponsors from Dodge, Interco, Detroit, Lynex, KC, etc... We all so built a 6x6 tow rig, and a 6x6 Jeep called Zombie Killer. Look for it on Yout tube.
depends, if you replace all the axles with rockwells that have input/output shafts that would be one option, or you could use a drop box or a gearover box on the middle axles, so that is a long discussion on engineering.
@joshpit2003 With lockers you do get scrub on the streets, 6 wheel steering would be nice, but that is the next project a 6x6 rock buggy. This was mostly built as a street legal family trail rig, but ended up doing much better than just a trail rig.
I love how the breaks are setup and the driveshafts and how you could add more if you wanted
Very cool shot whoever shot the footage under a rolling 6by. We clearly see the diffs and everything.👌🏼
Pretty awesome but why, why the annoying music? So many youtube vids ruined by crap music. Natural sounds would've been much better.

There were 6 prototypes built by Dodge, and we were sponsored to build this one and a tow rig version.
Pinion brakes. Stops the axle at the Pinion Shaft. They work very well, great stopping power just issues with heat transfer.

i remember playing with this truck on Test Drive off road 3 years ago , i was 9 years old when that game came out.
I remember reading about these in my offroading magazines back when they were first revealed. Still awesome trucks!
Gotcha, the axles were throwing me off, nice articulation between the 2 rear axles, now the challenge will be to get it stuck!
I have to say you have my favorite truck!!! Ever since I saw it in top truck challenge I always loved it and still do. That is really cool you got sponsored by Dodge. I have a 2001 Ram sport now but don't think I will be doing whats done to your truck for a long time! haha
That camera man was almost one for the Darwin Awards.

only if dodge built this truck man that would of been a collector for sure and a badass offroad monster
Awesome video. It's cool to see all the moving parts under the truck. :)
Thumbs down for misleading video title. No rollovers here.
Technically it is not wrong....
@kjorepo that is an amazing truck did you build it?
Loving the old tyre bumpstops.
@nexorabolis It is the stock V10. puts out 500ft lbs of torque and 330 hp. This thing is very tough and reliable.
I happen to like the song.
Also. I want that truck. BADLY. God damn that thing is beastly.
this is pretty badass.. i never imagined it could climb as good just because its so big.
That's how you check the fluid levels. Right? When it stops you check it. It either needs more, or is thickened and broke down and needs replacement.
Are the discs that in-line with the drive shafts @0:15 the brakes on that thing? I dont see any others, it just seems like three might not be enough
We've got Detroit Lockers in all three axles. Air lockers would be nice, but these work well.
Are theae Rockwells axles...I want to build for myself...where can I get them
This is monster! I like it. Who need roads and trafic lights. Just drive all over cars, people and houses. Real beast.
are there kits to modify or that are designed for bolt on when it comes to the rear diffs?
Looks like the V-crack on Poison Spider. Great Shot.
holy moly 149,000 miles at >20 mph??? You must live in this thing.

not familliar with drive systems but why are there disk brakes on the drive shaft for each set of wheels?
awesome setup brother. So all you did is basically what you had to to put the axles in it? driveshafts etc... no transfer case work? I like it.
The song is Ferry Corsten - Punk (Arty Rock-N-Rolla Mix)
I do not like dodge, but this had some nice custom non dodge stuff, (well built, fabrication looked great!)
does it also have brakes on the wheels or just the axels...i thnk those were disc brakes
I always wondered what is the advantage of having only one brake per axle in highly modified 4x4s. How can one relatively small brake handle all the braking power for the whole axle? what kind of mileage does it get?
I suppose vertical hill climbs would be easier with that long wheel base and extra traction. You know somebody used your truck in a video game right?
Dodge are the best. Powerd by Cummins i hope? i dont really like the 6X6 config thoe. or the green. What are the shaft brakes for? dose it still have brakes behind the wheels?
What's the deal with the brakes on the drive shafts instead of the hubs?
Is the shaft leaking on the last axle or was it just something wet?
Not sure I'd be ballsy enough to do this. Happy thanksgiving!
They are actually on the Pinion shaft (Axle).
very cool shot under that monster! love the truck, what a beast
how much would one of these cost if you were to build it from ground up?
@kjorepo you should put a little propeller on the end of the drive shaft..
@bhennessee01 all of it is stock except the axles and rear suspension. Even the springs are Mopar.
@TheDeathCrawler A lot of people have said that very thing and we showed up at sveral rock crawling events and we were laughed at by all the guys in the buggies.... until we took first place. lol. What does the sideways disc brake do?
i doubt there are more than one of these out there but your in south ogden right? i used to live like 4 houses down from this truck
what are the tandem axles out of like a big rig?
Why are there brakes on the drive shaft?
What's the brake disk on the axle?
what kind of dodge ram was it when it was stock, and have you done engine upgrades?
@Drewtitus No, just rockwell 2.5 ton axles put in series.
I take that back. Looked at it again and it seems that you added them to your front and rear yokes only. Not the middle one.
you going to get some arb air lockers installed mate??
@Warn02 Yes it was, and it has been in the background of Top Truck Challenge every year since then. We use the T-Rex to pull the stuck and dead rigs out of the tank trap.
Looks like you have a diff leak in the rear axle.
hey man that song is very kool ,it ROCKS!!!
Whats that fiber glass thing in the bed
what are thows breaks on the drive shaft
What kind of diffs are those?
whats the thing on the driveshaft the looks like a brake disc?
@hemiram1988 Rockwell axles always leak. They are hard to keep seals in them.
@kjorepo Wait was this a custom ordered vehicle or made modified by yourself? Either way looks very nice and fun to have.
How is that diff work? Does it got a worm gear or what?
I wonder if this truck is still around and running.
We hope to rebuild it in the next few months.
brakes on the drive shaft?
good use of rockwells my friends!
6 tires 8 rotors, problem braking?
they didnt....in fact there were only 2 prototypes actually built. this is a custom build and he even took it to the top truck challenge and competed with it one year.
The real seal was leaking. That is the problem with Rockwell axles, they always find a way to leak, I have replaced thaose seal dozens of times.
@naps1saps it stops the whole axle, not just one tire that would mean 6 sets of brakes where now theres only 3
I wanna do this to my VAN!! haha I seen this a few years ago in I think it was 4x4 magazine or something, Way to go man!!
@kjorepo What are the axles? International?
Oh yes it goes places that would scare most. On one obstacle we were the only vehicle to make it up, 4x4 trucks, buggies, and jeeps could not climb it. However, it does have its draw backs, it is large and doesn't fit everywhere, and turning radius is a challenge.
@TheDeathCrawler that is true is some ways but with that extra axle youll never get high centered
are those inboard brakes?? Effin' SWEET!
Was the camera man OK?
@flight110 not really its a proven fact that that set-up has more stopping power then the reuglar set-up, it makes more sense actually. stop it at the diff then having to stop big tires
What kind of mileage do you get?
i was waiting for the wheel to slip and squish camera guy down into that little crevice...
Great truck, were did you have that custom into 6x6.(name of shop please)
John Godwin and I built the T-Rex with sponsors from Dodge, Interco, Detroit, Lynex, KC, etc... We all so built a 6x6 tow rig, and a 6x6 Jeep called Zombie Killer. Look for it on Yout tube.
That is awesome where are you guys located what state.
John M. Evangelis From New Mexico, now living in Utah.
Built it in my garage, just like the T-Rex
Wow! You must've been a lucky person!
@joshpit2003 Those I put on to protect the panhard bar. Under extreme flex the panhard bar hits the frame, so I used some tread as a bumper.
Is this truck a cummins or a v10
How much would it cost to add a third working axle on a new Ram?
depends, if you replace all the axles with rockwells that have input/output shafts that would be one option, or you could use a drop box or a gearover box on the middle axles, so that is a long discussion on engineering.
Urban Survivors How much did it cost you in parts alone?
@joshpit2003 With lockers you do get scrub on the streets, 6 wheel steering would be nice, but that is the next project a 6x6 rock buggy. This was mostly built as a street legal family trail rig, but ended up doing much better than just a trail rig.
So is this what TIV2 looked like before the armor went on it...lmao
I forgot about these! Very nice!
I hear ya...Obviously though this truck uses its second axel as a point of pivot when it comes to crossings and overtaking humps
I may be seeing things but... did you add disc brakes at each of your 3 pinion yokes? If so... freakin genius. If you didnt, I came up with it first!!
@juan92r Dodge came up with the name for their 6x6 Ram prototype in 1997. T-Rex stood for Trans Experimental.
How is this song called?
isnt this the same truck as in motorm4x?
Which axle are those
Rockwell 2.5 Ton axles.
