Another fun fact Danny... Before NYCFC were born, Ferran Soriano was working for Barcelona FC, and he wanted to bring a Barcelona-branded team to MLS. Originally the city they were thinking of landing on was Miami. This would never come to fruition due to Soriano resigning from his position at Barcelona. As all this was unfolding, Sheikh Mansour purchased Man City and would hire Sorriano. The two millionaires continued their dream to create a global football entity, so they created City Football Group, and this time their new vision was set for New York City. Another fun fact...The Metrostars could have prevented an expansion team from joining the league in the tri-state area, but following the sale to Red Bull GmbH, the location rights reverted back to the league, so MLS approved the expansion team, and thus NYCFC were born. (MLS wanted a second soccer team in New York, and the Cosmos were looking likely, but they joined NASL instead after refusing to comply with the league's rules, such as giving MLS the rights to the name "Cosmos")
Bobby Boswell was a local legend for my dynamo! Underrated player stout center back and was always so nice to the kids and fans. great mls player, guts runner up, and top 50 bachelor in 06'. What a life.
To be honest, while I understand why Houston went with the "Dynamo" instead, Houston 1836 isn't that bad of a name. Reminds me of the USL Championship's Reno 1868 FC, maybe a bit of German clubs like Mainz 05 and Hannover 96 that put their founding year in their name, too. Or, if you count other sports, like the 49ers of the NFL and the 76ers of the NBA.

Canceled my mls season pass sadly I don’t agree with the league on some of its policies in the month of June. Question is the mls on the liberal side? And plus no pro / reg makes me made because it’s just a cash grabbing way.. I love watch mls games but we are just stuck in our ways with only expansion teams

1836 had some bad connotations to it for the Mexican community...that's why they decided to change the name.
