I really like how Timex incorporated their roots in this piece with the Waterbury Watch Co. logo. And that green seconds hand is such a nice touch.
that logo looks like a royal crown isn't it?
Before getting into watches I (we) used to clown on someone wearing a Timex back home in Waterbury, CT. Now that I don't live back East and I've gotten into watches, I've bought a couple vintage and new Timex's as they are great representation of the "Brass City". Its probably the only thing from Waterbury that's known universally outside of Connecticut.
I love Timex
What holds me back from Timex auto watches are the movement they use. They could at least use the Miyota 9series.
They do have one that does that and it's beautiful
@@funkmon Can you name the model please?
@@giorgisyr1 Giorgio Galli S1
This is my first automatic watch! I got it since 4 months and I love it!
Nothing like a classic-inspired clean design- outstanding design from Timex!
Love this watch so much. Purchased it recently for only $150, probably the best budget automatic watch you can get
where did you buy it?
@@MrDestruct0rHack bought it on was on eBay (back in 2023). It's quite difficult to come by these days; I think they stopped producing it :(
I like it! It's nice to see Timex working in this direction.
This is a really good deal. Now $200 at the end of 2023. Day/date, automatic, 100m water resistance. Thag's a really good deal.
These seem to offer a particularly good value proposition. What has caught my eye is the Timex + Todd Snyder collaboration. Lots of dial/bezel color combinations that amplify an already fantastic Navi XL or Marlin. Some unique and outright original quartz offerings too.
I have the liquor store watch and it's a thing of beauty.
He can audition for Spider-Man
He really could.
Get outta my head...thought I was the only one to notice that
Very attractive watch. I didn't know the history of Timex so thank you for the background. The price on its own isn't bad. This one has a Miyota movement but I wonder why Timex doesn't make their own since they move enough units to justify the cost of R&D and manufacturing.
I dont think they move enough automatics at all. The other budget manufacturers of auto movements also OEM that movement for tons of other companies which is probably a more profitable business that allows them to also use those movements in their own products. Getting into the game as a 3rd party movement mfr to compete with miyota and seiko would be soooo tough. Take a decade to catch up best case.
This is such a good looking watch!! 😱❤️❤️❤️ man! How have I never heard of this until now?!
Great watch and video. The Waterbury is a great line of watches from Timex. I purchased the Timex Waterbury/Hodinkee collaboration the other day. More of a diver "style" watch, but really happy with it. £200, also has 100m of water resistance, no date (ghost position), same movement I think. Timex has really turned it around over the last 18mths
Thanks for the Waterbury / Timex history. Of course, your review was very professional as usual.
I looked at these on the Timex site last night, but ended up with a Marlin instead. I'll probably get one of these too. I like their look.
I just bought one of these with the dark dial and I love it!
Had they included a Sapphire Crystal and a hacking Miyota 8xxx Series, this would have been a perfect place for most of the people. Imagine, you can get a Seiko DressKX for under $200 (with exact same specs) and what's the reason for people to spend more and get this one when it doesn't even come on a bracelet? If they included the those 2, people would be all over it. If this can be bought for under $200, I think this will be a great deal! Either ways, great dial and love the green on seconds hand.
Completely agree charging too much for the specs and movement, at 200 good! Over that price not so good
I have this model it was my first automatic and I still wear it all the time. It’s on my wrist as much as my Timex gali 38 auto and other autos that are much more expensive. They really did a good job with this watch
This watch and really caught me off guard with how much I really do like it.
The dial looks spectacular for the price!
The day/date window has a small border/frame around it, reliable automatic movement. And the trident counter balanced second hand is beautiful!
Only thing I think I wouldn’t of minded different would be if the price was raised by a little bit and use the semi decorated version of this movement to match more of the dressy vibe of the watch. (I
Believe the miyota 821A is the decorated version of the movement)
I think that Timex S1 is the best Timex ever, even better than any mainstream dress watch
How cool that Timex FINALLY produces a watch that ticks all the boxes and it's already discontinued. They real don't know what they're doing anymore. Everything popular is never in stock.
This was my first automatic watch and I love it, so versatile. and I love Timex. Just got their Timex Gali s1 auto 38mm and that one is so beautiful. Same with this one as an everyday watch hits the spot. I have a 3rd party strap which is so comfy with the watch. Love the dial on this one too
I love this and the other models Timex has rolled out in this area over the past couple of years. However I feel these Timex will never be taken seriously (like Seiko vs. Grand Seiko) because of the massive consumer perception of Timex as strictly a $20-$50 budget quartz.
That's not the proper usage of i.e. but I do agree with you. Timex is a watch you love for yourself but I think they'll always be perceived as cheap. A price they had to pay to control such a dominant share of the watch market.
Very interesting. It seems Seiko is what Timex was to the extent that they have a watch to fit every budget and provide reliability. They both have extensive history. Now, Timex is trying to build the Seiko's of the 80's and 90's with better grade movements but still considered lower quality in the the greater watch collecting community. Timex could take the next leap (Grand Seiko, Rolex level)...they are trying incrementally, but don't think they know how. The branding has improved though...They have some great collabs too.
Remember though at one time most of Seiko's lineup was budget. They started venturing into more entry level luxury and above decades ago and we now see where they are today. I think with Timex we are seeing them trying to venture out. You never know but the perception may change a decade or two from now.
I have to agree with you. I can’t help but think though, this is the watch that takes them to a more respect level. The Marlin is nice, but overpriced for what it is. This really seems better in every aspect. I really like the way they are printing Timex on the label of these mechanical watches, it’s more refined and not as flashy or fancy.
i really wish they'd spin off "Waturbury" as a separate premium brand. Swiss movements, made in america. High finishing, targeting that $1k mark.
Teddy the black on black video looks like a ghostly floating head. Add some bak rimlight or a but more wash on the background to gain a little separation.
I think that case looks f'n sharp! Wish it was just a bit slimmer perhaps.
That is an elegant looking watch. 100m water resistance is a good feeling for a watch that looks like that.
Nice thorough review of a watch that is attainable for almost everyone
Would love you to review some TITAN watches , was just scrolling through yt when I saw videos about it . Quite cheap if I must say, but looks quite promising.
Hi Teddy, could you please do videos on:
- Graf Zeppelin ( 100 yr. editions, to be specific)
- Timex Marlin Sub Dial Automatic
- Victorinox Inox Titanium
- Tissot PRS 200
Thanks so much/
Just ordered a Waterbury on 30% off day! Hoping this video confirms my decision!
Stunning dial
Love the dial but would be nice without the day/date
Is there a channnel or group that has this same passion and knowledge but in clocks instead of watches? Doesn't seem to be that large of a stretch. I'd love to get a nice mantel clock that has that same historical significance and craftsmanship.
I have the blue dial variant and pictures do not do it justice. The way the indices reflect light and the texture of the dial, it pouches way above it's weight.
The best Time I have seen recently
Pure and good looking, it makes perfect for daily watch as you said my friend. And my experience providing Miyota is a very good movement equal to any entry level Swiss movement.
I take it back, Timex Ironman watches are still pretty good IMO.
Take a shot everything he mentions 100 meters of water resistance.
I think the Timex Q and Pan Am editions are also nice contenders. Albeit, they're quartz moments.
Absolutely beautiful watch Teddy
Thanks Teddy. I appreciate the history behind the name and company. I’ve been looking into the Waterbury GMT.
I wanted the Longines sector but absolutely hate that the 6 is cut off.
The Baltic is nice but uses an outside movement.
This Timex is not finished as well but i love the look.
Miyota makes the 821A. Hacking and a bit of decoration on a movement that's used in a lot of sub $150 Chinese watches. Using the 8215 now is like getting a Seiko 7S26.
Sad but true.
That sounds like a compliment. The 7s26 will run forever.
Love all my 7S26-powered SKXs, but would appreciate having the hand-winding feature the 8215 offers, so the Miyota is a step up in that respect.
@@jlg395 As will the 4R series. Same movement with hand winding and hacking. I have many Seiko 5 watches and continue to buy them. I replace the crystals with sapphire and the movements with NH36.
Very interesting and useful piece of knowledge
Aqua Terra on budget !!
Looks really good Teddy, but the whites are a bit off on the day/date the date looks whiter/glossier, weird 🤔
I wish this were available in a dark-faced version. Great watch!
Comes in blue. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I agree with would look great with a black dial
Pretty nice looking Timex there.
At 4:28 you said it’s a 20mm strap and then at 9:24 you list the lug width as 19mm
Was one of these two an error or did they shoehorn a 20 into 19 lugs on their own watch??
I reallynwish they did these with different colored dials such as a burgundy
I think I'd place this watch firmly in the in the dress/sport camp. And I like it. I like the handset with the dark perimeter of the hands that you can actually see against the silver dial. And who doesn't like 100 meters of WR. Wow, just think if they used the 9000 series Miyota and brought to bring the thickness down 2 mm and made the lug distance either 18 mm or 20 mm? As it is this is a really nice watch, but with just a couple tweaks it could be major. How about a Timex "Teddy" Edition?
Does anyone know where to purchase this watch? I don’t think it’s available anywhere online lol
September 2022 link is dead end and this watch is no longer for sale on your website.
slap a sapphire piece on it, and it's 100% perfectly fine for almost everyone!!
Really nice release from Timex. I'd say even better than Marlin. Thx Teddy.
hi i'm new to automatic watches and i'm eyeing on this. i just have one question, i ride motorcycle a lot, is it possible that it may damage this watch with too much vibration when riding motorcyles?
The Hodinkee X Waterbury Limited Edition is nice. Teddy are you going to review that in the near future?
Any thoughts on Timex x The James Brand 2024?
"Unexpected Employee Deaths" = Poisoning the employees knowingly with Radium and then getting out of accountability. Come on Teddy, let's not lie.
So that's where "takes a licking" comes from lol
@@bruceleroy8063 Probably Bruce.
Bloody hell, never knew about this ...
Whut?? Explain further before I buy it, please.
@@TheChadWork2001 Thank you! It was helpful. Well, I had this clock ready to buy on Timex website, but I will likely change it for a non-Waterbury one. Seems like honoring Waterbury is bittersweet: There is valuable history behind that name, but also corruption and tragedy. I feel like talking more about it would deviate the spotlight from the watch description, but it was good to learn a little bit of history.
very nice looking watch. Should give hamilton mechanical watch the run for it's money.
Just bought the last one on Amazon. Or at least I assume so. I bought mine and it just got delivered. It's now unavailable
So the Timex makes the cases nowadays right? Good size, but I have 1 Waterbury already, dont need another Miyota, pardon me, Timex watch.
a very beautiful watch
This looks very close to a 7s26 seiko5.
Definitely not bad, if I had to say something maybe given how incredibely barebones that movement is perhaps a nice looking closed caseback would have been better lol
It looks nice but I was just burned by Timex. I got the American Documents and was very disappointed. The packaging was great but when I took the watch out, it felt so cheap. The leather instantly creased when I tried it on. I have a feeling it will not last more than 2-3 months. It looks nice in photos and in person, just doesn't feel nice at all.
Stellar video
Still can't get past paying over $250 for a Timex . Just because they charge that doesn't mean it's worth it.
Заводная головка завинчивается или нет?
Same water resistance as a Diver's 65 lol
timex watch is really good one???
I want this, but I want Arabics on my dial. If only Timex would release a day date automatic field watch in 38mm. They're releasing 38mm mechanical field watches without even the date. Date is a bare minimum for me.
Very cute watch.
The lug width??
Timex are really coming back to the heights of the past. A Timex is on my list for 2022! Though not with that Miyota 8 series. It isn't the best. It's been known to stutter ( personal experience included) and rotor noise and vibration can be excessive. An NH 36 would have been a better option.
Do the s1
Great design and finish but awful quality control. I ordered one and it came with a misaligned date. I returned it and got a replacement with aligned date but with a stain on the dial and some kind of a fiber or hairrr inside it. Third replacement also came with misaligned date, Had enough and went for money refund.
Thanks for this video is very nice 👍
Nice watch, especially with the water resistance; shame about the blah movement, though.
Does the crown say "WoW" or "MoM"?
Watch aside, a beautiful video, Teddy. Cheers 🍻!
maybe "WW" for waterbury watch company
I tend to agree with @Chris Bradshaw but this one seems to fit nice characteristics of a day-to-day watch.
But that’s what I said about the Marlin … and once I received it, had to return it; it was poorly built 🤷🏼♂️
In any case, I may consider this one nonetheless.
@Teddy Baldassarre - Thanks for sharing, nice review and like your insight.
It’s better to buy a citizen auto with their in house movement at the same price range.
I also have Timex but a cheaper one, this one looks hot ❤️❤️
Nice watch. I like Timex, but my personal minimum feature list requires lume on hands and marker. After that a hacking capability.
No excuse not having that on a $260 watch. Timex is getting there though.
I’m not even joking the gap between Timex and Rolex is narrowing.
If Timex keep pushing the boundaries and Rolex keep playing it safe Romex might get mistaken for Tilex🤣😂😅, ………. in steel anyways.
The reason why I always avoid a lot of Timex watches is 30m wr if I am buying a affordable watch obviously my main focus is to get a watch that I can wear on daily basis and 30m doesn't give you the confidence
Oh no. Why did they spoil it by using a Miyota 8 series??
What is it with Timex and ridiculously noisy movements? If their quartz watches aren't ticking loud enough to keep you awake, the rotors sound like a wrench in a washing machine whenever you move your wrist!
I agree. I recently bought a Timex expedition to use as a beater watch. But couldn't Stand that loud ticking. It was driving me nuts. I had to sell it.
Teddy Baldassare? Reviewing an actual Timex? That is to say, a genuinely cheap watch that the average everyday scrote such as one's good self could actually afford?
What's going on Internet?
Am I in the Twilight one?
He reviews much cheaper watches. Wake up
@@EqualsDeath I must have missed all his Sekonda reviews then. This guy seems like a genuinely lovely bloke. It just gets me how often he grandly announces "the greatest new bestest affordable watch from Blah & Blah", and it's, like, $900. He needs to get more in the real world and the same goes for many watch reviewers on UA-cam.
And for your information, I haven't gone to sleep yet.
@@nobbynoris i mean, Watch enthusiast love the best watches. 900 for a great watch is not a lot. If you are interested in budget watches, I believe there are some channels who only do that
The design in Timex is getting better but the auto movements are entry level and should be around $200 more than that not that special
For 40% of the cost you can buy about a half dozen similar watches from Ali's that will have NH35/36's, sapphire crystals and in a few cases twice the WR. Of course it's up to you whether you risk a faulty piece (the majority are fine) from Ali's, but the piece of mind of being able to return a bad piece and aesthetically better looking dial still doesn't make the Timex worth that price.
definitely the best looking Timex release recently to my eyes, but the movement they're using and the price they're charging is silly. for 400+AUD it should at least be fitted with a Miyota 9-series
I dont understand the obssesion with automatic, i wished this was a quartz
I love the idea of wearing a Timex like this. I just can’t get over the crappy movement! Throw an inexpensive Swiss movement in there and you can take my money. Maybe add some lume near the hour markers though. And sapphire crystal pls.
I can get past the non hacking movement, but give us sapphire or hesalite. Mineral crystal is the worst of both worlds here. Hesalite or plastic would be cheap and give a vintage feel, while sapphire would obviously be the best but more expensive.
Think about that. A watch for $1.00. Damn.
Green seconds hand and thickness ruin the watch
A lot of affordable watches get close, but no cigar. This is one such. The Tragic Flaw in this case are the useless sub-graduations on the minute chapters which add nothing except “busy-work” to the dial presentation. Eliminate this and it would be a passable watch.
Keep up the good work Timex!
100 meters water resistance is great. Add hacking, screw down crown and a sapphire crystal to your field and dive watch offerings and you'll be in business!
Sure it will cost more but I think people would pay for it.
The icing on the cake would be an "American made" Timex. I would even except it with a strong Japanese movement.👍🏽✌🏽
Nice watch. Too thick. They should have asked me.
Wish it’s 40mm. 39mm is kinda on the smaller side.
Pretty nice watch but kinda overpriced for me, thanks for review never knew Timex made this I have a pre weekender, not as noisy as the modern version. Might pick this one up with it ever goes on sale like $150 or so.
Great looking watch, but do yourself a favor and get a watch with a better movement even if it means spending a little more. The Miyota 8xxx can run up to 40 seconds fast per day. Pretty bad even for a $260 watch.
