Tips and Tricks for Making Cool Hats

Selling hats can be a lucrative venture for your screen printing and embroidery shop. If you only think of embroidery when customer asks you about decorating hats, it's time to get up to date! Rick spoke with Ty Kain of Crafted MFG and Jenna Sackett of Stahl's at the Fort Worth Impressions show to talk about how to make great looking hats.
Thanks to advances in adhesive technologies and hat presses with heated upper and lower platens, you can now decorate hats with various heat-applied patches, including PVC, faux suede and leather, woven patches, and even combinations of sublimation and embroidery.
In addition to decorating hats in your shop, it's also affordable and sometimes advantageous to have hats manufactured overseas. Minimums are sometimes as low as 75 pieces and turnaround time can be just a few weeks.
