somebody should make a compilation of fish missed because the net was not ready. Seen it so many times on youtube, never understand it but makes for good viewing
It’s a problem, I move swims very frequently so never bother getting my pike net unfolded. Lost a few messing about with the net one handed, plus barbless hooks doesn’t help.
If I am honest in the very early days when I fished with my late father we shared a net which is fine until you loose a few fish and then it hits home. Over the years its only happened a handful of times but I would never fish without a new being ready to be used, its a crazy idea especially when a lot is at stake.@@leftmono1016
Just loving this series. Well done to all the lads. Really pleased for San making a come back, and for Aidi showing just what a real true northern piker is capable of. Nice one fellas. Cheers. Mick.
What a comeback @AdyWoodchucker 👏 it was lovely to watch a pike fishermen doing what he does best, I can see how much you love this species just by the way you handle the fish! 🤜🏼🤛🏼
Great been waiting for this all week well done lads can t wait to watch the rest of the competition...tight lines all..Well done @ady woodchucker great angling there mate and some nice pike and brilliant fish care all ...tight lines 🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣
I think when youre fishing an event like this, subconsciously you tent to try a little too hard, strike quicker ect.. Just need to settle down and do what you do on any other day. Dans a great angler, i think once the nerves settle down a bit he'll be a force to be seriously reckoned with. I'm fishing the predator cup on Grafton, his video was a great insite to fishing those depths.. c'mon Dan just do what you do best pal 👍
Its a lot more pressure than people realise, we all felt for Dan especially on the first day when we knew what each other was catching but we all knew that if it clicked he would be dangerous.
On top water I am started to use Ginger fisherman's advice not to set hook's straight away but then when you started to feel weight on rod tip.... and basically never again missing top water fish 🐟....
They actually have a purpose, they are lightweight UV protection and they allow us to have no restrictions around the arms and shoulders. It’s also free advertising 😂
I’ve had a Guppie in my lure box for over a year now. Only tried it properly at the weekend and the action is fantastic! I’ve got the larger one though so couldn’t cast as far as I needed to reach deeper water. My usual go to is a 10cm Salmo Slider which casts like a bullet.
The 23cm is 120g so you need a pretty medium to heavy rod to cast it and set the hooks. The work really well on the countdown method, you could go for the junior if you are using a lighter outfit@@leftmono1016
@@AdyWoodchucker - thanks Ady. My rod casts up to 150g but you can’t generate (or I can’t) enough speed on the cast. Plus it’s not as aerodynamic as the Salmo Slider which casts forever. But I’ll definitely be using the Guppie a lot more when I can 👍 Rooting for you mate.
Entertaining contests. I don't like the use of "sizeable". "sizeable"means fairly large. A 22cm perch isn't "sizeable", it's small, some might say tiny. I can see why it's use has been bastardised but if a fish meets or exceeds the shortest acceptable limit then it's qualified even tho' it isn't at all "sizeable". "Big enough" works. Come on Brexiteers, where are ya!
I must admit that I have never been worried about the size of perch in length terms because I have always classed anything over 2lb being a good Perch, 3lb a bloody good Perch and a 4lber the holy grail. But when you desperately need a perch ti fill the card a 22cm Perch seems massive 😂 big or small we love them all.
@@leftmono1016 In the US they use night crawlers as bait. Imagine my fear as I entered the shop, would they have ears, how big would their feet be, would they have teeth? Turned out they were just plain old earth worms that you get in garden soil. I guess you'd agree that worms crawl, limbs are not required and it's just semantics. All fish are "sizeable" but you can't tell if they're "sizeable" until you've sized them. I just feel sorry for the real sizeable fish. They don't exist in this world.
@@Doupyourflies - although your analogy is a little off (look up the definition of crawl 😉), I too always wondered what night crawlers were. Imagined something nasty looking like a rag worm. Just checking my records, over the last 18 months I’ve caught 428 perch (yeah I’m sad like that, but gives me targets). Most from very small rivers or brooks, around 30 from a small lake I fish when the rivers aren’t fishable. Out of all those fish, one was just over 3lb, around 5 were over 1lb and the rest were smaller. Now I admit to going for numbers rather than size, but it gives you an idea of the type of sizes you see in the U.K. 22cm is an ok sized fish for me. And in the context of YPC UK, it’s sizeable 👍
@@leftmono1016 "move forward on the hands and knees or by dragging the body close to the ground." Slithering and undulations a crawl do not make. Only American earthworms crawl. What you going to drag above the ground with if you're a snake or a worm? My gripe isn't about perch. It's about language. I spent a childhood chasing tiddlers. Didn't something wipe out the big perch in the '70s? I found a small stretch of canal in the '80s near Stroud and was amazed how spectacular a 2ib fish is. Then in early noughties I had a couple around £3lb out of the Brue.... not a very sizeable river at all, it crawls along at a very slow pace when it's not in flood.

Lipping perch is a terrible idea.
Their jaws are delicate structures and not "designed" to support their weight.
