If they want a park of wind turbines, they will just set it up. No questions asked. If we want to set up even an offshore wind turbine in the West, some guy who lives 10 kilometres away will block the project for years because he complains that we are blocking his view of the ocean.

The cost to generate power for individual family is very low now, for example, USD200 solar pannel can get you 2 KW/day, which is far more enough for everything daily electricity use, if excluding AC; even with AC included, cost will be soon getting really low.

there is an IEA report can answer your question. China spent 526 billion dollars in 2022 alone to build green energy generation. China coal based plant growth was reduced by 83% in 2023 and almost all of new energy capacity in the past 2 years are green energy. Green energy percentage is at 32% of all energy capacity
Also according to a report by Financial Times, Chinese electricity cost is the lowest in all industrial countries so China can already produce energy cheaper in green technology than coal based technology.

New coal plants are not incompatible with "peak carbon" because 1. Those coal power stations will run less and less because they can't compete when wind and solar are generating. 2. Many of the new coal plants are replacing older, less efficient, more polluting ones.
But they do it to manufacture the stuff the US and Europe don't manufacture, which would be polluting the US and Europe. The modern coal power plants are more effective and pollute less than the older ones being taken out of service. You can't argue we can't stop burning oil at the drop of a hat and complain that China aren't stopping coal at the drop of a hat, at least they are making a huge effort to actually improve their emissions, which is more than can be said for the rest of us. Uhh, they're still building new coal power plants, so no they haven't hit peak carbon. They also emit more carbon than Europe and the US _combined_ .

China’s carbon emissions per capita is now above the EU average and France/Italy. It’s still well below the US though.
