My barn is built out of telephone poles, 30x52 I love it❤
I was trying to find more info - we have three real pole barns from the 40's! One 24' on center. Amazing construction, should last really well. Thanks for posting
Nice work. Great design and workmanship
You done an outstanding job on the barn and making this video....thank you!. Hope mama dog had a great litter and all is well.
The Quality of your Workmanship shows all over your operation. Clean, Neat and well thought out. Some of the Farm videos that I watch, the Barns, Sheds and Grounds look like a virtual "Pig Sty" for no other reason than the keepers are just Lazy.. Great Job....Bulldog
What an amazing barn - you are a true carpenter with skills to be proud of 🐨🇦🇺🐨🇦🇺
Congratulations on your 100 subs.
That's a very nice barn! Great work.
Great job, looks awesome for all kinds of uses..😎🙂👍
Probabaly saved over $1000 in lumber with those dozen free poles.
You’re probably right on.
Enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing. I'm thinking about putting up a hurricane proof shed at my Florida homestead and was thinking this might be the route I would go (now I just have to find some poles).

CVTs are definitely not meant for work; only play. :) the Hondas with their automotive transmissions, or the really fancy Kobotas with their hydrostatic transmissions are definitely the way to go; for a working UTV.
Thanks for making the video! I would like to get some used power line poles to make a canopy that I can park a camper underneath to keep it shaded and out of the weather.
That would work great 👍
man i'm jealous of that barn haha, that's a really nice building sir, your doing it right, its nice to beable to use recycled posts, my uncle has and older pole barn built out of telegraph posts that came from along the CP railroad right by where I live now. Those puppies aughta be pretty cute, thatll be a good cross breed also. Good video again sir, keep it up and have a great day!
Thanks RRAR!
Any tips for ensuring the poles are plumb? Not sure how to use a level with a tapered pole…
Congrats , you have 100 subs!
Kinda funny. It bounces from 99 to 100. Long ways from 1000. Haha. Thanks
My local utility said the poles they replace are replaced for a reason...they no longer can carry the load. The treatment product can actually flow down the poles over great lengths of time and then they rot at the ground. The good part left above the ground has no treatment left. So when you bury the cut-off they give you....the part you bury has zero treatment in it and will rot quickly at the ground line. They advised against it but said take them if you want. I would hate to go through all the work only to have the poles rot quick. An alternative might be to pour concrete piers to set the used poles on...but anchoring the poles, concrete, rebar etc will add to the cost and you ruin the advantage of free posts. Just a thought as I really want to use used poles but cant bring myself to try on a 18x24 tractor shed.
Yeah it’s a call you have to make. My dad and other people I know have used these in the past and the buildings are still standing. Your call. My poles were in very good condition.
Congratulations !
Your barn looking very strong and professional !
Did u paint the poles before to put them in holes ?
Which kind of black paint please?
No paint. That is the original treated end or possibly Creosol from purchase. These were used poles I got from the power company. Thank you.
Are you gonna concrete the entire floor of the barn or just leave it as is? Secondly, do you plan on making a staircase to the loft? In any case it is beautiful!! I have purchased some telephone poles out here in NM and want to build a smaller barn and not as extravagant as your awesome barn and I am a one man show at this point. I'm surfing youtube for suggestions on how I may get my plans accomplished and I really appreciate your work and sharing it. Thank you sir.
We have concrete in two places. One is a heated area where we have a water hydrant and another spot where we will have a chicken coupe. We did build a vertical staircase to get to the loft. I should really do a better video and talk about more specific about the barn. Thanks and good luck building. When your done it will feel good to have.
Hello my friend. Beautiful work. How deep are your poles in the ground?
About 4’ in the ground . Thanks
Loved this video! What's the span of the main part of the barn? Again great job.
The main part is 16’ wide with 12’ wide leans on each side. Thanks for watching.
@@DiamondHeartRanch what 2xs did you use for the span on the main part? We're getting ready to build a shop with the poles I've gotten over the weeks.
Paul, the loft has 2 x 10’s for the span with 1/2” plywood for decking but I would use something stronger because the decking is spongy in spots. We had to add some boards in those spots. Thanks.
@@DiamondHeartRanch Thanks a bunch.
How did you address the taper of the power poles?
Because of that taper the building is not 100% square. For a barn it’s good enough for us. No one can tell unless we point it out.
How did you put the poles in the ground? Did you use cement or rock or just in the dirt? Either way I love it. Thanks
Monte Cristo after we squared the main 4 poles we just tamped the dirt. Using rock is a lot easier but we had none. We got the holes dug about 5’.
@@DiamondHeartRanch Thanks I am about to do a 40x80 pole barn with a steel truss set 10 foot centers was going to do the same with rock almost like corner fence posts. We have some here on the farm still good after 40 plus years. I might put some cement footing in the holes for the load but just as some pole support for collateral load of roof.
Very nice looking barn . I do however have one concern. Are these poles treated with chemicals to prevent rotting or incect damage ? In East Tennessee the power company said they are chemically treated.
Doug These poles are treated so they do not rot from wet ground.
Nice building! Did you have to pay for the utility poles?
No I didn’t. They gave the ones on our land to us free.
1.)How tall above ground did you leave you power poles for the lofted section?
2.) How tall did you leave them above ground for your side lean to's?
I'm asking because we are building a barn out of used telephone poles as well!!!!!!!!!
Also how wide is the section under the loft?
timothy sayles The lower part is 10’ high and the loft is 8’ in the center but about 6’ on the sides. I’m guessing the poles are 16’ out of the ground or maybe 17’. There is a 4’ opening to the leans for you to throw hay or straw down. We used 4 x 4’s for the lean poles. Bought 12 footers and put them in the ground around 4’. Made our own rafters. We didn’t cut the telephone poles until the very end before installing rafters so we had enough height.
@@DiamondHeartRanch cool.....good stuff....we just got our phone poles and will be starting on our barn soon.....great content beloved.....I'll definitely be subscribing......if you want to keep up with our barn build and give us advice, we have a youtube channel call "I.A.G ITS ALL ABOUT GOD".....go check us out..... We have a farm as a part of our ministry
timothy sayles sounds good
Can you send me a link to your page
How did you keep everything square and compensate for the poles tapering smaller towards the top?
Nothings perfect but the animals are happy. Lol
@@DiamondHeartRanch right on, I understand. Just wondering, I am a lineman at the local power company and as you can imagine, I have a pile of poles. Just trying to figure out the best way to utilize them and still make my barn look good. I’m no carpenter, but I think yours looks really good.
@@saulgoodman1730 I used stakes and a string line to get the main building “poles” square on the bottom. You can adjust the top as you go. It’s not perfect but no one sees it. Good luck. I wish I had more poles.
Nice! How wide is the middle and what size joist did you use?
16’ wide and used 2x10 plank 16” apart
@@DiamondHeartRanch thanks. I’m going to build a barn and had been contemplating what size joist to use.
@@DiamondHeartRanch how far apart are your poles on the loft?
@@julianbatiste6037 8’. 👍
Did not read the opening page, disregard my question.
Is there any worry with whatever may have been used to treat the telephone poles?
Shouldn’t be
Could we buy a sketch of the blueprints by chance?
Hi. I’m sorry I don’t have any blueprints. This may sound funny but I usually build things in my sleep before I start a project. I can draw or write something down for you about the dimensions if you’d like. No purchase necessary.

Thank you! I will be sending you a message
How tall from ground to top of poles
I think 20’
