Been doin it myself since I bought my first Ike Jacket in 1995, I was 14. And yes Dirty Dozen, Kelly's Heroes, Battle of the Bulge. Telly Savalas was in all three. The Devil's Brigade, Patton, Stalag 17, M*A*S*H, The Longest Day, Bridge at Remagen, A Bridge too Far, Big Red One, Memphis Belle. were the ones that I grew up on like y'all.
It can be a sickness if it gets out of hand, but I also get great joy from collecting and the research and subsequent knowledge can be shared with like minded individuals. So as long as it brings joy why not collect
The stuff is cool, historical, well made, and functional. And it holds its value. I got started when I was 12 and have been hard at it 35 years. Great video. Keep them coming
Great video, I can definitely relate to all of it. Wish I had served too, it’s one of my biggest regrets. I’ve always been a collector-vintage toys, coins, guns, knives, artifacts, autographs, it’s just in my blood. When my Grandpa gave me his 1911A1 and a German P-38 that he brought back from WW2, it really fired me up to collect more. I collect military because I love the history behind the items. Plus I just love the smell of cosmoline! 😂
Collecting is fun as hell. Expensive but well worth being able to own history and preserve it for future generations. Plus you meet and make good fellow collector friends.
awesome video! i collect for a lot of similar reasons as you. i played with gi joes and army men. i grew up watching mash. our familiy all collected something so we were always going antique stores and shows. a friend of my mom gave me his 3rd army and 82nd airborne patches and that got me looking for more, and then other militaria.
I Liked your answer to the big question! I have been thinking alot about why I feel such a strong connection to history lately, have not found a definitive answer yet though. Thanks for another great video!
Same here. I think the movies started it all. Of course the little green army guys. Most of all, I joined the military because my grandfather was in Vietnam and my great great uncle died in WWII. He and I ended up being the same rank and in the same division all said and done. I leaned early on that most of my grandfathers Vietnam stuff was just tossed in the garbage by his mother. And that always stuck with me. So I saved all I could of my own stuff including my Kevlar that went to Iraq twice and once to Korea. Of course I brought stuff back from my deployed like patches and armbands and stuff. And it’s been an uphill battle since then 😂
When I look at all my collections, I think the same thing about a lot of time. So many questions are going to be through my mind. Thank you for sharing it with us. Hope you have a great week. God bless, brother
@JonBoyMilitaria I hope to get to share it when I can get things squared up around here, but hopefully, in the next week, I'll have something to share with you. I know you will like it. My oldest son had found a nice M1 Grand at a local gun shop, all original. Came from an estate sale, the guy told him. My son told the guy my dad loves to collect WW2 things, and the guy told him this estate sale had a lot of American G.I. WW2 memorabilia from pictures to clothes and weapons. We were supposed to go look at the M1 Grand tomorrow
I had a British comando dagger with the knuckle duster there were only a small number issued for a mission in Italy a cop stole it and some other war memorabilia i had at the time
