Great video David! This Darkroom update is insane and much-needed. Interestingly, it also shows how complex color science is, full of shady concepts which lack a precise definition. I can only imagine the gigantic efforts made by the team! Not only to implement these changes but to research and find the right algorithms to get to these results.
I am glad your back on UA-cam and enjoyed your video and I use Darkroom for a lot of my Astrophotography images. What do you think about Pixelmator Photo.
Excellent! I had already disgorged myself of Lightroom and switched to Darkroom for most edits, with Pixelmator Photo for its healing function and RAW Power for its handling of tone mapping. I paused your video and updated my Darkroom. Back to finish the video and write this. Now back to Darkroom!
Glad you did this one, David. It reaffirms everything I was thinking about the new version. I'm beginning to think I can delete some of the editing apps I no longer need... like Snapseed maybe. Now I'm going to try an edit on an old RAW file I took with ReeXpose that I had to grossly underexpose.
Wow it's good to have you back. I'm no professional photo editor for sure but I always had issues with Darkroom and never subsced to it. I'd be willing to give it a go on your recommendation. Thanks David
What a great video! Really high quality, very informative, deep but not to the point you won't understand. You really captured every detail. I couldn't help but comment on how well your videos gives viewers deep perspectives on the reviews you put out. Cheers! Also What glasses are you wearing? I really like the wooden texture of the frame.
Haha! I definitely won't be abandoning Lightroom, even though DR has improved a lot and appears to be a very good alternative. It'll take me a lot to learn yet another editor.
So I have a question, I know the highlight recovery slider on a bright bright image is not perfect yet, but will darkroom and affinity photo 2 in conjunction with each other work for recovering highlights ?
Hi David, very informative content! Do you know if Darkroom or any good alternative let you edit raw file from external ssd on IPAD? Can't find this information. BR
Excellent practical examples. I will now look at Darkroom on my journey to find an editor WITHOUT a subscription. I had to leave Lightroom. It's great but the subscription cost over the years is insane!
I rarely comment on videos, but I really enjoy your videos and your presentation style. It was really a joy to see your smile too! On your comparison on Light vs Dark (pun intended), Darkroom has an option for one-off purchase for lifetime vs Light's perpetual sub (For those who might want to think about monthly sub sustainability) Anyway, hope to see more of your wonderful work!
Thanks for the video. I don’t edit my photos often enough. I have LR mobile only but hardly use it. This video was very helpful I think I’ll buy into Darkroom
It's not very often I watch a UA-cam video and see a photo of the marina I live on! This will of course mean I have to watch loads of your vids... 😊 (I'm comparing DarkRoom with Dark Table (overkill for me I think but wow it is comprehensive!) as I'm just getting back into photography and don't want to restart my Adobe subs - again!)
I "recently" switched to a Mac and iPhone 13 Mini and started getting back into mobile photography, so I wanted to try and move my workflow to Halide + Darkroom but I have a question: does Darkroom finally have some "spot removal"(or whatever is called in english) tool to remove small imperfections and objects from the scene? I'd like to have one app to shoot and one to edit, but if I'm not mistaken they didn't use to have this function
i like the darkroom UI a lot more than lightroom classic, which I feel is really bloated and old fashioned at times. so far so good, its done everything I have needed it to do, and produced some nice looking photos!
I feel you on this. Long time darkroom user and supporter. Paid in full only for them to start this subscription BS. It’s unfortunate. For ppl who’ve been vetted in, they should’ve given us the features for free as we’ve already paid before they switched up there commitment.
Thanks for this comment. This is a non-starter for me. I’ll go with something else. Been buying software for far too long to not know when to stay away from these types of businesses.
David, that seems amazing. What definitely draws me away from Darkroom is that, in Brazilian currency, lifetime purchase is more than R$ 400, which is about £77, whereas it’s about £43 in UK. I’ve contacted Darkroom team about it, and they basically said “too bad, well, we’re a small with bills to pay, unlike Adobe, so we’ve got to charge”. Signature also doesn’t work for me, same reasons. So I’ll stick to Lightroom Mobile until Darkroom understands us that have to pay in weaker currency.
After years of using darkroom I decided to switch to android.. to my horror darkrooms not available on android and there's no equivalent app! I'm seriously considering going back to apple just to use this silly app 😢

Well said, Salvo! Majd, Darkroom’s co-founder, talks a lot more about it in tomorrow’s video.
It took a big effort indeed. David's interview with Majd goes quite deep into the details, if you are curious.
Link to the real Darkroom?
Always great to see you here David 👍 your reviews are superb and unique.
Great to still have you watching after more than 2 1/2 years, Andreas!
David, good to see you. I sure miss your content.
My content and I have missed you too!
Great to see you David, & as usual fantastic content/video......
Thank you!
I will definitely revisit. Thanks David!!!
Yes, he is back!
Looking fit and with some good content again :)
💪
ahhh David and Darkroom..what a lovely day!
Nice comments, what a lovely day!
Excellent! Can't wait until you next one last video!
Last one for sure!

Haha, love it Wilbur!
Ah! That shadowy light! Definitely something for a darkroom.
But seriously, your reviews are quite useful, thanks
Another brilliant review video David. Look forward to your upcoming interview with Majd :)
Thanks Simon! I reference you in it actually
@@David_Addison Woah! Really?
Are there any brush tools like Snapseed? How do I brush a mask?
Thanks for the super in depth review David!
Thanks for the app! I’m going back and re-editing old photos since the update 😂
Thanks for watching and sharing your example, Greg!
Give it a good try and don't shy away from ging us feedback!
It does not have a basic tool like heal or erase or a trust brush tool
Wow it's good to have you back. I'm no professional photo editor for sure but I always had issues with Darkroom and never subsced to it. I'd be willing to give it a go on your recommendation. Thanks David

so happy to watch your new video!!!!
So happy to have you watching!

This is interesting David. Love ❤️
Thanks, Alex!

I just purchased the APP (Darkroom). Is there a manual or some resources that instruct how to use the APP? Thanks. je

Are you able to merge bracketed exposures in DR yet?
does this apply for the mobile version as well? I just bought the lightroom mobile subscription like a month ago 🤔
Yes 👍
I rarely comment on videos, but I really enjoy your videos and your presentation style. It was really a joy to see your smile too!

Good to keep in mind, I rarely mention cost but probably should.

Let me know if you like it!

I was only in Exmouth for a couple of days so don't have many photos but I can't wait to go back. I stayed in nearby Budliegh Salterton.
I have am working with INFFINITE 2.0, Will Dark Room work with it? How will the work flow look like?
Do you get updates with the lifetime purschase?
Is this Darkroom for iPad or Mac? Or both?
I "recently" switched to a Mac and iPhone 13 Mini and started getting back into mobile photography, so I wanted to try and move my workflow to Halide + Darkroom but I have a question: does Darkroom finally have some "spot removal"(or whatever is called in english) tool to remove small imperfections and objects from the scene? Hard to get excited about a subscription app when you’ve paid the one-time purchase option already. Companies should stick to their commitments.
If you contact Darkroom on Twitter or via email they should be able to help you.

Darkroom won’t even respond to me about it either.
Thanks for this comment. This is a non-starter for me. I’ll go with something else. Been buying software for far too long to not know when to stay away from these types of businesses.
Just ease up on that shadows slider in LR. Lol

Exactly same for Türkiye

Great video! And BTW, could it be that you lost a lot of weight. Either way, you look great in the video 👍
I thought you meant a real darkroom, not this computer nonsense.
